As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What did you decide on Tanya? We chose a True PS300 for our indoor running. The entire family is super pumped, even the girls who really perked up when we told them if they trained for it we could all run a Disney race together as a family

NordicTrac 1750 Commercial. Really like it so far!
My husband and one daughter will make use of it too.

....and got the call today that the treadmill is delayed another week I guess the box in the warehouse is horribly damaged, when they opened it up to check the treadmill is FUBAR'd, and they don't have another one until they get a delivery late next week. Ugh....
At least it is still coming, and I look forward to see what they come up with, as the guy I spoke to said they were going to look into seeing what they could do to make it up to us. Luckily it isn't too cold outside yet for me to run out there.

Hi all! I have been absent on these boards for a long time. I have kept up with everyone on FB, though. I am getting ready to head to Disneyland on Friday for the inaugural Avengers half. I haven't been keeping up with my long runs, though, so I am a little worried. I am not having my usual IT and knee issues, but I've lost 20 lbs, and I think that has a lot to do with it. I still have 15 more pounds to go, but 20 is good!
On a side note, my dad ran in the miserable Wine and Dine last night. He placed 2nd in his age group, and beat Jeff Galloway (Jeff got 10th in the age group). He said the race was the worst he had run in ever with all the rain and it was freezing. We had friends who were trying to get to the Wine and Dine, but got stuck in a horrible traffic accident on I-4 and ended up missing the race due to traffic.
Congrats on the weight loss Tricia, that's awesome! And I'm sure you'll do just fine for Avengers. You've got the experience under your belt.
yes, W&D was not pretty last night - so I've read. I heard about the accident too. I can't begin to imagine the frustration of those runners stuck in that traffic. I mean, I hope those involved were OK (I should google Orlando news outlets...), but for months and months of training, being healthy and injury free, and then not being able to run due to something beyond your control..... I don't know. Bad night overall.
But congrats to those tough cookies who did finish - wowzers!!

Hi Everyone - I have been a bit absent too on the boards. I have had a lot going and am doing tons of running for Dopey. I'm pretty psyched that I ran over 17 miles yesterday.
Tricia - Congrats on the weight loss!! I know you will do just fine running Avengers. Like Tanya said you have lots of running experience under your belt!
What a bummer about W&D last night!
Kim - I hope you had a great race in spite of the weather!
Tim - Congrats on the treadmill. I know you will love it when it arrives.
Tanya - I have a NordicTrac Treadmill too and I love it! I have no idea what the model is, but we got it over 5 years ago and it gets a ton of use. I think you will be quite pleased.

Holy mother of gods what a race!! As Tricia said it was raining. And gross.
When we first arrived at the expo it wasn't that bad, not raining maybe a drop here and there but overall the perfect race conditions. I had a fleece on just to keep me warm and then when I warmed up running I was going to chuck it on the side of the road. Well.....it didn't work out that way.
When we just got into the corrals the rain was starting to come down at a bit more steady rate, not heavy just annoying. I was in corral I...how that is possible when my times submitted should have put me in the next one up, I don't know. Anyhoos....soon it was time for our corral to go! And the rain decided to get a bit heavier! I had a poncho on too (thank you hubby for still having one and telling me to bring it!) so I was all sorts of a hot mess! Do you know how hard it is too pee in a porta potty in the dark with a poncho on??
The rain kept coming down on and off and for once I wish I had a brimmed hat for it would have been perfect. I finally took my arms out of my fleece shirt for I was getting warm, but never took it off for i had the poncho on and I just didn't want to get anymore wet than i had to. Cast members in AK were screaming "PUDDLE!!" yeah that was great, what happened in MGM?? I must have stepped in 37 of them!!
But finally I was done and there was going to be no after party for me. I just grabbed my stuff and my mylar blanket and headed back to my bus...which was about another half mile away lol! Soaked, cold and tired I finally got back on the bus and made my way home to which I stood in the shower for 10 min just taking the chill out. I will happily take the humidity and warmth over cold and rain any day!!
Tricia congrats are in order for your dad!!! Can I get his training plan? lol
I heard about I4 too..I think it was an accident with a death...I remember seeing a few others that posted on FB saying they were stuck in traffic

Wow Kim - major congrats on your race! You really had me laughing when I read about your port-a-potty experience! I can't imagine running 13.1 miles in a poncho - you so rock! Let's hope we have better weather for our races in January!!

Marathon happened. It was cold in the morning of the marathon. I felt pretty good until mile 13, and was :/ meh about miles 14-18. Then I started to get nauseous. I found a coach at mile 19 and she ran/walked with me until mile 24. Then my regular team in training coaches ran shorter bursts with me (about 1/4 mile stretches). I finished in 5:15.
Overall, I'm not sure about marathons. It was hard and exhausting, but with better training and less injuries (and slightly warmer temperatures) I might try another. I'm Setting a new goal to break 2:20 in the half marathon for right now, and looking at different training plans for any future marathon events I may or may not try. I'm going out to run again in the AM for the second time since finishing.
Congratulations Amanda!! 5:15 is a dream goal of mine - that's an excellent finishing time! Awesome job.
Marathons are a totally different beast than Half's, indeed. So much time involved in training. Yeah, I hate running in the cold, it's harder for me. So I hear ya! Disney is *usually* warm for the full in January! I mean, it starts out cool in the pre-dawn hours, and then warms up nicely. Hint, hint....

Amanda Im with you, Im not sure if Im going to do another marathon, it really does take a lot of time in your day! Today I did 18 miles and hubby did 20. We left at 9 and was home at 2, so that was that for our day today! Good thing is, I got most of my chores done yesterday but I don't like having most of my day gone. Im thinking Im a half marathon girl.
Tim, best of luck on your Boston training!
Cant wait for January! This time in 7 weeks it will be all over!

Yeah, I'll agree that running a marathon is a totally different beast than a half marathon, and it isn't just the training that is such a much bigger time commitment (which a lot of people don't really realize) but also the actual running of the race gets exponentially harder the further you run.
I'm convinced that ANYONE could train for, and run a half marathon, which in itself is a crazy-far distance, which tests the limits of many....but running a marathon is something completely else. I've hopefully convinced my wife to try her hand at the half marathon distance, and hopefully we're going to have the entire family running various races at the Princess Half weekend next year (wife and the kids and I doing the 10k, and the wife and I running the half)
One thing to keep in mind that MANY training experts feel that longest your long run should be (time wise) is 3 to 3 1/2 hours, and that any runs taking LONGER than 3 1/2 hours can actually have detrimental effects to your running training (since it takes your body longer to recover than optimal). I've read in the same articles that your body gets the most endurance benefits during that 3ish hour timeframe, and it isn't really worth going much longer than that.
Now, that's well and fine enough for those that run a marathon in the 4 to 4 1/2 hour timeframe, but what I'd like to know is how correct is that info for those that run marathons in 5 hours plus...as at those paces, you'd only be running about 13-16 miles in that length of time.
Still an interesting theory...
Tim

I never felt totally prepared for it.
Tim-my longest run was 3:15- which was about 16-17 miles. I really think I needed to run a 20 miler. And the fact that I was hurt week 7-8 of training didn't help.
Anyway, I've got July 14 marked for registering for the Glass Slipper Challenge.
