Our Fall 2014 Trip Report - Coming to You Barely Live from Orlando - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OMG Sharon, I have never seen such magnificent pictures of the castle show and Hallowishes. Disney should purchase them from you. So sorry things did not go as planned, but you certainly are a good sport about the situation. Looking forward to the rest of this report.
You're too sweet - It was fun taking the photos.

I have made those not so great or helpful choices while at WDW, and hate that poor Luke usually has to deal with my mistakes. But then mistakes are just part of life.
It was definitely a rocky start. But I learned a few things. You are right - mistakes happen, and you just have to move on. I will get that darned Boo to You parade sometime, although probably not this year.

Thanks, Laurie. No, I wasn't too exhausted, but it was good I didn't stay longer.

Bummer that you weren't able to more thoroughly enjoy your first MNSSHP due to the weather...and that mass of humanity! I hope you're able to try another party if it's in your plans for next week! It really does seem a poor value when you can't enjoy most of what you paid for.
How was your stamina by the end of the night? I hope you were able to get some good rest!
Thanks. The secret to the projection shots is to use a very fast shutter speed to try and capture an individual scene, otherwise they run together. Fireworks is a lot of trial and error, and I use a special filter (a neutral density filter - it's like sunglasses for the camera, so the colors don't all wash out). I also use a tripod and shutter release. I'm still learning.
As for stamina? I'd say I am about 70%. Strong enough for a couple hours at a time, but no more. This should get better, as the Doctor said it will probably take 6 months to get rid of all the after effects. So, I was pretty happy with what I did see.

I made some comments above about the photos. I hope we can meet up, too.
So glad to see you started your TR. Sorry the party was somewhat disappointing. Your pictures are gorgeous! I've never been to Disney in the fall, so thanks for sharing. Can't wait to read more.
Following along with your TR.....love all of your pictures!!
Rain Rain...GO AWAY!
Thanks, I am enjoying your TR as well.

Missing the parade is a disappointment, so definitely will go back sometime.

Does Lou's Hog's Breath tee shirt come from Australia? We had dinner at Hog's Breath on the Gold coast and thought it ok.
Lou's shirt is from Key West, Fl. I don't think the ones in Australia are connected (and there may be a bit of a legal story there as well), but they are very similar. We visited one in Port Douglas, also.

Thanks for stopping by. More photos of the Fall Decorations at Magic Kingdom coming up later today.
9am on Monday - rain is forecast (surprise), but it still looks safe to venture out.
Interestingly written TR with simply wonderful photos!
I sure can empathize with the disappointment when shows must be cancelled. The Tomorrowland one we REALLY wanted to see at MVMCP last year was canceled twice due to the inability of half a dozen BIG fans to dry the stage enough for performer safety.
We gave up dealing with the drippies and watched Party Wishes from our MK-view balcony, comfortably seated. That almost made up for the incredible crowds and rain hassles. Not quite, so we're doing the party again this year hoping to get great weather this time.

Great pics of Hallowishes!!
Sorry about the rain and crowds. My first experience of MNSSHP also had a huge crowd, but we found a spot early for Boo To You Parade and that made the evening despite the crowds!! Love the fact you would it all again!!
BTW...Fantastic view of MK from your room!!
Can't wait for more....
You had a better attitude about the rain and the crowds (plus the expense of paying for the party and the soiree and not getting everything out of them) than I would have. The colors are so beautiful in your fireworks and castle projection pictures!
What gorgeous pictures! I was quite lucky yesterday at the MK. I arrived about 2:40. And watched the parade, then rode 7DMT with my fp. It was a great ride. After that I roamed around. While I was in Pecos Bills eating , the rain came---and went! Got to ride Pirates and HM (around 6:30) so not lit yet. At 7 I staked out my spot for the first parade and had a long wait, but a great show. I opted to wander and pass on the castle projections and saw the fireworks from Tomorrowland so not the best view. The 2nd parade was canceled for rain, mso my plans were good.
Great pictures so far Sharon! Sorry about the rain and the crowds! I would have bailed as well! Can't wait for more!
Thanks, Marnie.

Thank you, Mayra. Just gives me a reason to go back for another Halloween season!

Thanks for stopping by - I understand the safety concerns. I think Christmas season is my favorite so far. I hope you have a great trip!

Thanks, Pam. I could cry a few tears over what didn't work out, but I knew it was a risk. At least I got something out of the Party.

I'm glad you got onto 7DMT. I hope to give it a go later this week. Good thing you saw the first parade! Sounds like the Party worked for you even with a little
I thought I would get the Steam Train Tour posted today, but it seems we have a LOT of photos, so I still need to sort them. In the meantime, here are some of the early morning photos taken before we entered the park. Then, there are some from inside as we waited for the tour to start.
We were at the gate by 7:05am, because Lou didn't want to be late. We were supposed to be there at 7:15am. There were 12 signed up for the tour, and everyone made it on time!
Someone was anxious to get started
We were allowed to take photos when we entered the park at 7:30am, as long as there were no maintenance vehicles in view.
Michael, our guide, took pics for us looking down an empty Main Street (note - next time, we should remember to not stand right in front of the flagpole)
Not sure what the Wedding Party was still doing here - they should have completed their photo shoot before people arrived at the park:
The decorations are fun, with lots of details
By 7:40am, the early breakfast eaters were arriving, and we were heading off for our Steam Train Tour:
Up Next: We Really Will Report on the Steam Train Tour
