Yes We're Taking the Baby & No, We're Not Crazy! PTR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

LOL! The last couple of years I was working I often felt like I was stuck in a Groundhog-day "live it again" loop, but having that happen before a trip would be VERY upsetting!
Always glad to kick someone into gear. Oh, you know me well enough to know I am happy just to kick someone. Ha! I am guessing Chris is happy and you aren't thrilled, because you would have told me if you had cancelled Coral Reef. I want the golden egg. $5 would be nice! $50 is really nice! Can't blame them for changing it.
I was wondering about your countdown, as your days until your vacation and mine were almost the same but our dates weren't. Now everything makes sense. I was starting to think I was crazy.

Finally signing on to read the PTR that I feel I might have pressured you into writing and YEAH!!! I made a PTR I feel really honored! I don't remember the whole conversation about the days/driving and arriving, but I'll echo Amy that I think I called you a genius at Disney math
I too constantly brag about the Baby Care Centers and have even caught Brian grumbling about the lack of help for fathers needing to tend children in our area. Most of our bathrooms don't even offer a diaper deck in the men's facilities
I can't wait to read more and I'm seriously about the time warped phone...Brian is staring at me like I'm nuts but he decided it's okay because you referenced one of his all time favorite movies - he's currently trying to work it into his sub plans for tomorrow so he said to tell you "thanks for the idea for the video clip for the writing starter for his freshman classes". I'm sure the sub would thank you too only the poor soul has to watch the same video clip four times over

I was wondering about the number of days, but it would have never registered. Glad you got it figured out now and not 2 days after you were suppose to leave.

I usually feel like that whenever a trip is coming up. This year it's a bit different. I recently started a new position at work and things have been hectic the past couple of weeks. I like that I'm staying busy, the time is moving a lot faster!

I'm sure you've already found someone this morning that you want to kick I don't blame them either, having all those kids to buy for really adds up fast.

I've been so busy lately, the days didn't even register. I have a feeling it had been stuck on 43 for awhile, but I just never bothered looking at the countdown until I started the PTR. I'm glad it's all sorted now too.

I'm glad I could help Brian The baby care centers really are wonderful, I wish more places at home had them...heck, I wish any place at home had them!

Oh that never would have happened I have our vacation on my Outlook calendar at work, our calendar on the fridge at home, my cell calendar (which is also linked to Outlook), plus I know exactly when we are going. The countdown app is more of a novelty than a reminder for me.
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Yesterday we spent the day at my in laws house and had fun spending time with family. Things got changed up this year with the egg hunt. The eggs had a mixture of $1 and $5 bills inside, some had candy, and the “golden egg” had a slip of paper that said “big prize.” In total, Sean scored $25, some candy, plus a Cars loop race track, and a set of figurines of all the Frozen characters. Yes, my son is on the Frozen bandwagon and is obsessed with the movie (more on that later, I’m sure). Anyway, I wanted to share a couple pictures from yesterday, mainly for Laurie!
Here is Owen with his great aunt. It’s hard to get a pic of him because he is very much a mama’s boy. If someone is holding him and he sees me, his mission in life suddenly becomes how to get out of their arms and into mine it’s so cute, but sometimes Mommy needs a break too!
Here is a pic of Sean after he found his “golden egg” – it’s yellow, they really only have one egg that looks gold, so this one has little stars drawn on it.
Back to the PTR! We’ve decided to avoid making the boys (especially Owen) ride in the car too long, we are going to leave after work on Thursday and then stop for the night in North Carolina. We’ll get up Friday morning and drive the rest of the way. Chris and I are still in discussions of when we’ll actually leave, I’d rather leave as early as possible (so we can drive farther) and he wants to take his time when he gets off of work. I’ve decided to table this until it gets a little closer. He actually just called me a few minutes ago and said he might be taking Thursday off, so perhaps he is coming to his senses!
Since I don’t really know what time we’ll arrive on Friday, I haven’t made any ADRs for this day. I figure we’ll probably arrive around 4 or 5 pm (I hope). We can check in, grab quick service from Goods to Go and then unpack in our villa. I don’t really feel settled until things are unpacked and after the long drive, I know the rest of my family would give me grief if we immediately set off to explore everything. I’d like to get to Downtown Disney if time permits tonight so we can just walk around and browse the shops, or perhaps take the boys to the pool. This whole evening is pretty flexible since the arrival time is up in the air.
Saturday is our real first day there and I’ve been able to score some FastPass+ that I’m pretty excited about. Since we are also going to be there during SWW, we need to make an appearance at Hollywood Studios! I know there are a lot of mixed opinions about FP+ and I share them as well. I’m glad that Disney announced they are working on allowing more than 3 per day, but the downside is that you have to use all 3 first and then can’t get more unless you go to an actual kiosk in the parks. The FP+ system is failing me a bit on our first day. I’ve made a dinner ADR for 50’s PTC, so I also made our FP+ reservations for the afternoon and evening. This means we have to go all morning without a FP in whichever park we visit. I wanted to visit MK in the morning, but since Disney announced the 24 hr event for Friday, I have a feeling it’s going to be a zoo over there. I’m sure whichever park we decide to visit first (knowing Chris, it will be Epcot) then we’ll just see what we can and not worry about any potential long waits.
Ok, so once we get to HS, I have made FP+ reservations for Toy Story Midway Mania, Tower of Terror, and Star Tours. I’m really happy that I won’t have to rush to the park to get a FP for TSMM or look at the disappointment in Sean’s face if I tell him there is an hour+ wait like last year. Because of this, I really like getting the FP in advance. This is going to be Sean’s first time on ToT and Star Tours. I’m really excited to see him experience them, especially ToT. Chris thinks this is going to end terribly, but Sean is a bit of a thrill seeker, so I think he is going to do just fine. Of course as I type this, I am thinking about how much I loathe that ride and only enjoy it once it’s over! Actually, I’m exaggerating. I just don’t like waiting for that first drop. Once the doors open I know it’s coming and it’s the longest few seconds of my life. I figure between the 3 rides and dinner at 50’s PTC, the rest we’ll just wander around and see what is going on. I did make a touring plan for this afternoon that includes The Great Movie Ride and Muppets, so it all seems doable. My biggest worry is that I’m going to forget we aren’t staying at BWV and try to take the boat back at the end of the day

Thank you for the photos, Jenny! What handsome boys! Owen is a doll, looks a lot like Sean, and it's so sweet that he's a mama's boy right now. I can't believe how Sean has changed into a big boy! He's so cute, but doesn't have any of the toddler look any more. I guess it had to happen! He made out really well at the egg hunt. Your plans are looking great. I agree that the big plus of FP+ is being able to have a FP for rides like Toy Story without getting to the park at rope drop. Also agree that the downside to the new ability to add more FP is having to use the first three up first. Has Owen ever slept away from home before? Hoping he's an easy traveler!

So excited to ready your trip report! I am pregnant with my first (due in July) and we are thinking of going to Disney in February when the baby will be about 7 months old so I am very excited to see what I can learn from your Experiences!
You are absolutely not crazy these are the days when you create the memories you will have for the rest of your lives. I'd love to have the so called hassle of a little one at Disney now.
Love the plans and great score on a 1-bedroom villa near the hospitality house (that is my favorite spot). I have also found great luck with walk up reservations at Oliva's so depending on what time you get in - you can always see if there is a table available.
I have some tips for you on your Star Wars Weekends plan. We'll chat later. But there are a few things you might need to adjust. Oh, and are you doing a Star Wars weekends meal there? I don't remember reading that.
That 24 hour thing will be nuts. But I still would want to go. With you.
