As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Hum... I think I have a lot to learn about planning a cruise because I didn't follow everything you said. Except free drinks. I got that part. And I know that is a good thing.
Interesting that Celebrity is aimed at an older crowd, as I always had the perception (don't ask me why) that they were very much aimed at a young crowd, so that's interesting to know...
I'll be interested to see what you make of the food on board, as we're real foodies too!
Well we are only in our early twenties, so anything not aimed at college kids is older than us But definitely got the impression it's good for couples and groups of adults more than families.

So I'm not good at the whole "go with the flow" thing and wanted to get at least a little SOMETHING planned. We explored excursions, spa treatments, and dining options. We really didn't want this to turn into a super pricey trip, so we were being very picky.
1. Excursions: of course, excursions on a cruise!
The problem is we don't want to book any "beach day" outings and then not have it terribly warm since it's only February. I want it HOT when I'm at the beach. Plus there are decks and pools on board, we kind of wanted something more fun. Honestly nothing on Nassau stood out. We moved on to Key West. There's a not-too-pricey Pub Tour offered, which we thought would be fun to go around with people and meet new friends etc. But Key West is the last day, what if we meet other people by then and want to go off with them? And again, what if the weather isn't great? We opted not to buy that one either and if we change our mind we can see if there are still spots day-of. We also figure Key West won't be too hard to navigate ourselves since we'll have cell service and everything
After reading some other PTRs around these Forums I learned of a Chocolate tour on Nassau and thought to myself "hmm I don't remember seeing that before" so I went off and investigated. It's an option on Disney cruises but not on Celebrity. So I did some more research, hoping we could just go ourselves. We can! It's $50 per adult for about an hour long tour and chocolate making class where you get to take home your creations! Why is this so perfect for us? Because it will be VALENTINE'S DAY! To my huge surprise, Cody agreed with this idea and we booked a 2pm tour. It's about a 10 min walk from where the ships dock, so we figured we can grab lunch on the ship and then head on over Not a huge commitment but something fun to do. If we want to go to the beach or anything else, we can do so in the morning before lunch, leaving our afternoon free for this!
2. Dining. YUM
There are three specialty restaurants on board, one crepe place, an Italian place, and I think a steakhouse. We opted for the Italian place at $35 a person for Valentine's Day dinner. This gives us a slight break from our tablemates for a more romantic atmosphere at dinner. We might splurge on a nice bottle of wine (discounted 15% with the beverage package) or just decide the food is splurge enough! The rest of the time we figure we will be good with the main dining room and other breakfast/lunch options on board
3. Spa stuffs! Okay this one is just for me
Very pricey options - but I've made it a bit of a tradition to get my body composition tested when I go on a cruise with an Elmis spa. So at 8:30am on our Sea Day I'll head over to the Spa to see how much bodyfat I am, my hydration levels, and my calorie burn rate. It's super interesting info and there's a good chance I'll get their algea clense pills again because they really do make me feel better and you are supposed to do them every year or so. I'm hoping for better numbers this time, as last time was after I graduated college and was being a pretty unhealthy person. Now I'm eating better and exercising more, so fingers crossed!
So that's it, three little things planned. Just a few hours of our trip Well, main dining dinner I guess is technically a plan too, but otherwise it's all do what we feel, when we feel. If there are art auctions on board we will probably go to some of those. But a lot of nice relaxing time is really the ultimate goal!
