Fastpass+ Limit [able to choose additional headliner attractions once in park?] - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I find the new system to be stupid, and I just got back 2 weeks ago.
We scheduled FP+ ahead of time, and it was of little advantage to us except twice in a 7 day visit. We actually spent much less on souvenirs and food than we have in past years, mostly because the souvenirs are almost the same as last year, and have become more homogenized across the parks. I only bought souvinirs in the "land" shops that had some unique things from the countries represented. If the prices continue to rise as they seem to be, and the FP continues as is, we can't see ourselves returning any time soon. We've been 9 times in the last 8 years, and think that now is a good time to think about expanding to other places..... I completed the survey about "our experience" but they carefully worded the questions to give very little chance to give negative responses. I'm not sure it's worth it to write a letter... We had a good time IN SPITE of FP changes, but feel, like some others, that we are being treated as if our business doesn't really matter to Disney anymore. They spent their money on this monstrosity instead of upgrading the parks, rides and fixing many of the things we saw that have become shabby.

Are you still able to get more FPs with your magic band once you're in the park? So say we picked Soarin' before we go can we get a regular FP for Test Track once we are there? Also, do you have to do the same FP for everyone in your party? We don't all do the same stuff.
If you plan ahead and get a fast pass for say, Test Track, then get there and use it, can you get another regular fast pass for the same day? Test Track and Soaring (both in the same grouping!) are always completely out of fast passes by mid-morning, so I can see planning 2 months ahead could help you, but we've always gotten multiple fast passes throughout the day.
And another question....my DD and I don't do some of the rides that DH and DS do, so can we get fast pass + and let them use them?
And what happens when you get a FP+ before you leave and the day you have it for the ride is down?
I do like to plan but I also enjoy a little spontaneity!
As Robin Williams once said, "Ixnay on de vishing for more vishes. Thats it: [ding ding ding] THREE." yoi cant get another FP on the same system.
During the test period, some folks have been able to get additional FPs on the legacy system, but that will go away as soon as the test period ends and the legacy FP system is removed.

Just a thought.....since your husband is having back pain, you could consider getting a DAS card....... I think we will be doing this for Rob because standing still on the concrete causes serious back pain for him.
At the present time you can still get regular paper FP with your ticket. If you are staying at a resort that is no longer issuing regular room keys--ask for them!

Just got back from a quick trip last Tuesday. This probably won't work. Your magic bands have your first name on them and when you go through the fastpass scanner, your name comes up on the scanner. So if you're Mary and your husband's John, your name would come up when he scanned your band through. However, when doing your fastpass +, you can "assign" the fastpasses to various members of your party so that you actually have different fastpasses linked to each band. For example, your husband and son can have fastpasses for Space Mountain and you and your daughter could have fastpasses for Splash Mountain. Everyone in the party does not have to have the same fastpasses.

To clarify - this only works if you have a card-style ticket.
For example, if you bought your ticket from Undercover Tourist, and associated the ticket with your MyDisneyExperience account, the Tyveck or plastic ticket you got from UCT will still work in the legacy FastPass machines.
Likewise, if you're staying at a resort that still gives out KTTW cards as backups to the Magic Bands, those KTTW cards can still be used in the legacy FP machines.
And of course, if you're not staying at a Disney resort and don't have a Magic Band, you will have a card-style ticket anyway, and it will work in the legacy FP machines (as long as it has a magnetic strip on it).
However, once the testing period for all the new equipment is over, the legacy FP machines will be removed, and FP+ will be all that's available. Nobody knows yet what the FP rules will be for off-site Guests (i.e. whether they'll be able to select 3 FPs or only 1 at a time, or whether they'll be able to select ahead of time using MyDisneyExperience or same-day only, etc), but even off-site Guests will still use the FP+ system, because all park passes are now RFID media rather than magnetic strip media.
It won't be long until the CMs at the turnstiles who carry iPads with magnetic strip readers will be gone, and anyone with a magnetic strip ticket media will have to exchange it for a new RFID ticket media, just as it happened back in the 90s when WDW changed over from stamped tickets to magnetic strip tickets.

This only works if you use your "hard" ticket to enter the park. If you scan in with your magic band your hard ticket will not work in the regular fastpass machines. We tried to do this on the weekend and the fastpass machine printed out a paper receipt that said the the ticket was not used to gain admission to the park for that day and was therefore not able to be used for fastpasses.

There must be some variation in that, because I was able to get a FP for Soarin' with my Undercover Tourist ticket, even though the UCT ticket was entered into my MyDisneyExperience account and I used my Magic Band to get into the park that day.
Were you trying to us tickets in the FP machine other than the ones linked to your MDE account?
I did an experiement I'd read about while we were there. We were able to use old Room Keys from another trip to get FP legacy tickets. We didn't need tickets associated with them or use them to enter the park, but we were able to use them to obtain FP tix (we only did this once to see if it worked and it did). We also get FP legacy tickets using our KTTW card issued at check-in. During our five days we only got FP legacy tickets to use about three times. We found we didn't need them, as most lines were 20 minutes and under most of the time and we had FP+ for the 'headliners' in the park and only needed to ride them once a day.

I travelled with Cendure and I was the one that tried to get the fast pass with the hard ticket. We have annual passes that were put on hard tickets and then linked to our MyDisneyExperience account and MagicBands. Because I used my magic band to enter the park and not my hard ticket annual pass, it would not issue me a legacy fast pass.
