Magic Bands for all resorts SOON...maybe - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The delay at California Grill (and the opening of the original Test Track in 1998) are the exception, rather than the rule. WDW was so embarrassed by the long delays for Test Track (it opened more than a year after its original announced opening date), that they've been extra-careful to under-promise ever since.
There may be an "official announcement" somewhere (though not at the official Disney Parks Blog), but WDWMagic does not give any attribution to the source of that list. While it's completely possible that it's a list being circulated internally, that doesn't make it an announcement. If it's an internal document, it's a leak. There's no change to the info posted at https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/bands-cards/ (as of today's date).
So yeah, it's something to be excited about, and I was disappointed that I wasn't part of the test for my most recent visit, but it pays to hold back on plans until after something's really official.
Presuming the info at WDWMagic is accurate, that October 31 end date is far more likely to be the date that it goes into effect (although most likely as a "soft opening"), than a date that it will be withdrawn from service altogether. An item that's been "tested" at every resort, park, shop, and restaurant is something that's expected to be ready for prime time. In a case like this, the "test" is a training period for each resort's staff. Due to issues like staff turnover, they don't train the entire organization until they absolutely have to go through the time and expense.
As with nearly every new Disney attraction or feature, they hope to have it in service before the peak holiday season. A key reason for doing that is to expose the maximum number of visitors to Disney's latest and greatest - the more people who can "buzz,"the better. Buzz from Thanksgiving and Christmas has a direct impact on spring break and Easter break vacation decisions.

We were just there and used the bands. There are still a few issues that need to be fixed. First of all, not every place is equipped yet and you still have to carry your room key. You still have to carry your annual pass in case you have an issue getting in teh gate and for the shopping discounts. Most of the cast members that we encountered in the parks and at the restaurants said they are still learning how it all works. We had several instances where at least one person in our party of 14 couldn't get in the entrance, meaning it kept giving them the blue color and they had to then wait until a cast member with a computer came over to scan them in. Definately some gliches! But they are moving in the right direction, it was fun to use it.

Well, we got all excited when DH saw that FP+ was showing on our MDE today...buuuuut nothing at all about Magic Bands.
< sigh >
So, I tell DH to CALL DISNEY while I avoid ruining dinner. Maybe we should be able to customize bands, but it's just a glitch that the band invitation didn't appear, too.
CM explains that since we're booked at the GF in November, and it was among the last Disney resorts to be included in the testing which ends on Halloween, and we already have FP+ showing, it's "pretty likely but no promises" that we'll get the bands eventually. "Just keep checking daily." < sigh > As if we weren't already.
So, might be something to the pervasive rumor that Disney is scrambling to fix bugs in the system and intent upon doing the actual rollout ASAP after Nov. 1.
X X X X X <-----all fingers crossed, even some I haven't got! LOL

I was able to do my fast pass+ selections last night, we are checking into CBR on 11/23-12/3. I was able to make selections for our entire stay. I was not able to customize my bands until today. I am 59 days away from our trip and I did online check in today. After I checked in online is when I could customize my bands.
DH said someone else here going after we are said they got theirs, so he checked and THERE THEY WERE. THANK YOU, Austinsmommie, for giving us some luck. I'm just sure there was PassPorter pixie dust involved. :::::giggle:::::
So, keep on checking, everyone.
I'm SSSSOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!

We got it too!!!!!! Thank you Her Dotness for giving me the heads up . I was like a kid on Christmas morning when I logged on and was given the option to customize the bands. Now, why aren't they here yet? I mean I customized them like over an hour ago?? ROFL. It's killing me though because Dmom and dad aren't home for me to share the news and since they're going too I know she'll be as excited as me! Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I would also like Disney to perfect matter transportation - then I would go to Disney on the weekend!
I'm hoping to customize mine in 10 days.

It appears to be the actual rollout as we just got the alert to customize bands this week for our mid-November trip. Others going in November have said they did, too. Apparently, the last phase of resorts added for Sept.-Halloween was simply to get the rest into the testing, perhaps to make sure that bugs could be ironed out at all resorts.

I am going in mid-December. We got an invitation for Testing today. It looks like testing is still in place at that time, not a full roll-out.
There ya are, HM, being factual and precise < grin > which I agree can be more useful than my not caring just what it actually is and speculating wildly.
I suspect others like ourselves don't care much either. WE got bands for our soon-to-happen trips, and WE are the people we care most about in that respect.
But thanks for adding that levelheaded info to clarify.
