Three for Three....A March 2014 PTR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your NYC plans sound great. That toy store is amazing and Aiden will probably be so stunned by it all he'll have a hard time choosing something! It definitely will make your necklace all the more special buying it together on Fifth Avenue! Nothing like leaving Tiffany's with a little blue box!
That's what I thought too Laurie (about Tiffany's) I think Aiden will love the toy store too! I'm going to have to put a price and time limit while we are in there so we don't spend all of our evening there lol

The next leg of our trip will be to visit East Hampton, NY. To get there, we will be getting a rental car for the remainder of our time up north.
March 4th- We will be checking out of our hotel and grabbing our last taxi to the car rental place to pick up the small SUV we will be renting. Mike is taking a slight detour while getting to EH to take me to Amittyville. I have this fascination and love of horror movies and they scare me even more when they are true stories. So, I'm sure you all can guess that he will be taking us by the Amittyville Horror house. We won't be going in (people still live there) but we will be driving by. That was all his idea lol From there, we will head to Mike's Aunt and Uncles house to stay for the next 3 nights. We will drive up later that day to see Mike's Grandmother. I think she is more excited to see Aiden because he is her first Great Grandchild (Side note: Mike's Great Grandmother lives down here so Aiden is lucky enough to have his Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother, all in very good health). After our initial visit, we will go back to Aunt Dawn and Uncle Wayne's house and take them out to dinner as a Thank You for letting us stay with them.
March 5th- Today, Mike is taking us to his old neighborhood and showing us Duck Pond, his favorite deli, the park he used to play in and also where is Aunt Dawn and Uncle Wayne got married, his old school, ect.. Then we will go to Montauk to see and go up in the lighthouse (it's his mothers FAVORITE lighthouse) and then go to see his Grandmother again. We'll take it easy and just visit this day.
March 6th- Today will probably be just relaxing and enjoying the visiting with family. Nothing really planned. We will just wing it.
March 7th- Today we leave EH VERY early because.......we are taking a detour over the Brooklyn Bridge to drive to Hoboken, NJ so I can visit Carlo's Bakery!! I know the lines can get pretty long but now that they have 3 stores AND a factory open, I'm hoping the line isn't too long. Either way, I'm waiting. After we get our pastries, we are taking Aiden on his second surprise of the trip. We will be taking another detour in PA to the Strausburg Railroad to take Aiden on a train ride! He LOVES LOVES LOVES trains so this is going to be so special to him. After the train ride, we will head to my Grandfather's house, where we will be staying. We plan on taking him out to dinner this night to thank him for letting us stay with him for the last leg of our trip. He will insist we NOT pay for him but we will sneak it by him
March 8th- Today, we will be taking Pa (that's what I call my Grandfather) with us to Lancaster, where I was born! We are going on a buggy ride tour of some farms and school areas. We will also check out some of the stores and the delicious food that the Amish make. After that, we will head back to Sinking Spring where Pa lives and take him to a movie and to some of the parks I used to play at when I was a little kid visiting my grandparents. Pa and I will also show Mike and Aiden where he used to live and where I went to school before I moved down to Florida.
March 9th- My Aunt Lin and Uncle John are having all of us up to their house for a cook-out or dinner of some sort. That will be in the afternoon and in the morning, we will probably head to church with Pa. After church we will probably grab some lunch and relax until the BBQ/Dinner.
March 10th- Today we will head home. We will drive to Philadelphia and maybe look around a little and then head to the airport and drop off the rental. We will board our plane and fly to Mass. for our detour. Then we will board the plane again and head back to Orlando and be home around 7:00pm. We will eat a quick dinner and then head right to bed because Mike will have work and school the next day and Aiden will have to head back to school. I will spend the day (the 11th) doing laundry and grocery shopping.
That is the end of our trip itinerary. Some things are subject to change but likely won't. We will add other things to do here and there so I will keep you all up to speed about that.
Sounds like an amazing trip that I'm sure all of you will enjoy!

Your trip sounds like a lot of fun! How great for your son to see where you both grew up.
We'll be taking our 1st trip to NYC over Columbus Day weekend with our kids (although much older 18 & 12) & also staying in the Doubletree Suites by Hilton. I'm trying to locate a town car service to take us from JFK to the hotel. Do you mind me asking what car service you're using? Thanks!
