Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

That's exactly why I always book through Disney..I don't want to worry about missing the ship! It sounds like you picked fun excursions! I will be exploring Jamaica too.

Ha! The Yankees won't be in the World Series this year so no worries. Dodgers all the way!! They will have the games on board!

We have our documents and are all set and super excited!!!!

Inquiring Minds Want to Know......

By the way: Tinkerbell 1012. Does that mean you're the 1,012th person to use Tink as a name? Significant birth date? Anniversary?

Your flight: direct? We go from Syracuse to O'Hare, one hour layover, then to Bush.

This is kind of an anniversary present to each other for us. October 1 will be 35 years. You prob remember 1978. The day we got married Rick Waits and the Indians shut out the Yanks and Boston tied them for the pennant. Next day was the playoff with Dent's home run. We were driving to Florida for our honeymoon and I had to keep tuning in different stations to listen to the game.

My 61Maris61: my all-time fav player, followed, chronologically, by Roy White, Munson, Nettles, O'Neill, Jeter. My CC name is derived from our son; explained it on CC recently.

PS on flights: we should get to Galveston Friday afternoon, which is why we booked Hotel Galvez. It will give us some time to see the area. Never been to Texas personally except for a short airport transfer years ago.

Oh, had to refuse a couple of people entry to our thread:

Tinkerbell1013 - sorry, cut off number was Tinkerbell1012.

73Bonds73 - sorry, we don't recognize that as a legitimate number.

1012 is our anniversary...we have that in common too! We were actually looking at going on the 10/12 sail date but my best friends couldn't go that week so we picked this sailing. I guess we will both be celebrating our anniversary on the ship!!! I do remember 1978! Our wedding night the Yankees were playing in the world series and there was NO "activity" until after the game...I said so!

We have a direct flight and will be landing in Houston at 5PM. I have never been to Texas either so we will probably look around for awhile. I didn't want to pull the kids out of school on Friday so I can't get there any earlier. The rest of our travel party arrives late Friday night.

I take it that you are taking Disney transportation...what time is your port arrival? We are 11AM...maybe we will be on the same bus!

I have way too many favorite players to list! Maybe we can discuss over a drink at the pool

Hmmm, no "activity" until after the game? I bet your husband was praying it didn't go into extra innings!

Btw, we're in 6632. We were one of three on CC who booked a 7A; we got Deck 6 aft, another got Deck 6 mid-ship; another got a 4A mid-ship. I'm glad for the guy who got the 4A - it's their first cruise (husband, wife, 18 month old), so they should enjoy their location.

Facebook and Other Stuff

First, we don't have a port arrival time yet. When we did the Dream we stayed the night before at Pop Century, requested an 11am departure, but we were at the mercy of Disney and to wait for a 12:30 bus, didn't reach the port until 2PM.

Sending you by e-mail Barb's Facebook thing if you'd like to befriend her (she's the sensible one in our family); also the Facebook link for our cruise.

Hopefully Raymark will find us here - the more the merrier! Haven't had a chance to check CC yet today, hope to shortly.

PS: lousy game last night, but I like the Daily News headline: "A-Rod in October Form".

I am afraid that being at the mercy of Disney might put us on the ship late too. That's why I really like going out of Port Canaveral...I can set up my own transport.

NO comment on AROD!

Dear Tinkerbell:

I believe you've only cruised on Disney ships. As someone who always tries to be helpful, I thought I'd fill you in by letting you know what you might be missing by trying other cruise lines:

Ten Ways To Know You're Not On A Disney Cruise

1. At check-in you're given a choice of weapons to have in your cabin

2. When you walk onto the ship, instead of having your family name announced, they just mumble, "Welcome, whoever you are".

3. You find out the mirror in your cabin's bathroom is a 2-way with the cabin next door

4. The only entertainment on the ship is two Red Sox players having a catch

5. The movie theater popcorn tastes like movie theater popcorn, not the good stuff Disney has

6. When you go to the Dining Room in cut-off shorts and a tank top, the Maitre 'D tells you you're overdressed

7. The menu highlight on formal night is a McDonald's quarter pounder

8. Instead of the ship's horn playing Disney tunes, it sends a constant SOS signal

9. Instead of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, you have photo sessions with Rickey Rat and Suzie Seagull

10. The mouse ears in the hallway are on a real mouse

A Note on the Above

I posted something similar on Dis Boards, and got flamed by at least 2 posters who took it seriously! Geez, some people have no sense of humor.

Believe It Or Not

I heard this happened on a cruise ship recently, but I don't know if its true:

A man was standing on the rail on the top deck of the ship late one night. Another cruiser sees him getting ready to jump.

Cruiser: Don't do it!! Don't jump!!

Jumper: whaddhayou care?

Cruiser: it can't be all that bad. Where're you from? I'm from New York.

Jumper: Really? Me too.

Cruiser: Don't jump. Think of all the things you'll miss - football season, New York's great restaurants. Hey, the Yanks still have a chance to make the playoffs!

Jumper: Actually, I'm a Red Sox fan.

Cruiser: Jump, you bastard!

Black Sunday

Wow! What a great day - NOT! Drove 3 hrs to attend calling hours and services for a priest I knew, drove back home, got to watch very little (thankfully) of the Yanks and Giants.

I figured, how could the Yanks lose on Mariano's Day with Petitte pitching his last Stadium game, and I thought for sure the Giants would have an easy win. Lucky I'm not a betting man!

So, today goes in the books as a Black Sunday - it's days like this that make me need a cruise!

GoodTime Charlie's Got The Blues

No blues here, but the Meet threads for this cruise remind me of the first line of that song: "Everybody's gone away..."

I follow this Meet thread and 2 others for this cruise: Cruise Critic, Dis Boards. Pretty much no one, except me, has posted anything for several days (which might just mean everyone else has a life!). I guess I'm spoiled by being used to Royal Caribbean boards where people post much more frequently.

My goals on these boards: I try to find and offer useful info, post some lame jokes, and basically try to be friendly. Sometime it's hard. On one other Meet thread, a couple is doing our cruise, but they don't like beaches, don't care for our ports, don't want to shop, and are afraid to post on Facebook, but then complain that FB is where all the info is! I've tried to be understanding, but his last post totally threw me. He booked the same excursion as us in Grand Cayman; I nicely wrote back and said maybe he'd be on the same bus and with DW, DGD, an I. He wrote back: we requested an all-adult bus; we don't like being around kids".

Wait a sec: you're doing a Disney cruise, but you don't like being around kids??

PS: I don't mean to imply Royal Caribbean cruises and/or cruisers are perfect. We did a 5 day out of Cape Liberty in May; the ship was filled with New Yawkers and Jerseyites whose favorite word started with F.
