As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm happy to report that they finally moved the vehicle. I really hope these particular people won't be rude enough to do it again, since the note I put on their driver's side window said: Do not park in my yard!
I took a photo of their license plate, so that if they do it again, I can call the township/police and show them that there's a history. At least maybe then they will be more willing to tow it, since they will be repeat offenders. LOL
for everyone's encouragement and words of advice. I thought I was gonna lose it for a while there!
Maybe you could have the township put up no parking at anytime signs. They may charge you for them but it maybe with it. The worse they can say is "no".

That was a great idea about taking a picture! They will have to take it more seriously if you show them this is a repetitive, common occurrence. I am sorry you are dealing with this - it would annoy me so much too! As for the person letting their dog relieve itself in your yard, I am assuming they don't pick up after the dog? If not, they can DEFINITELY get a ticket for that in basically every town I've ever heard of. (I have 4 dogs and have had dogs for several years...before we move to a new town I always read the pet laws thoroughly so I know where we should/shouldn't live based on regulations.) If at all possible, take a picture of the dog next time you see it using your yard. (Fun picture, right? but it will help) That is not something the township can ignore.

Maybe you could do what one of me neighbors did. He put big rocks all along the side of his property to keep cars from parking there. It worked. I have a big ditch in front of my house, no one parks too close to that but up the street they don.t have ditches.

I am definitely not above taking a picture of them curbing their dog in my yard! "Here, Mr. Policeman... take a look at THIS picture." LOL He'll have something funny to tell his buddies back at the station.

I like the idea of big rocks, and someone else suggested those reflectors that are on rods and you stick them in the ground.
Times like this I wish they had finished the curb on that side of my yard, like the front yard has.
There's a couple ways to go about fixing this situation. It's your property and can't put up a fence but you can do other things.
1. Like someone else said, place large garden borders in a line. They sell them at Home Depot about $3.50 a piece. There about 10"x6" or so. Or cinder blocks. Line them up in a row no one would drive over them. My friend did it to prevent people from parking on the grass by the street at his house it worked.
2. Plant a curb garden or a couple of bushes spaced a few feet apart. No one would drive over your bushes unless they're stupid.
3. If the problem is really bad and nothing else works and are at your whits end there is one last option. Get a large industrial strength magnet. They sell them at stores like Home Depot too. Also get a box of roofing tacks. Sprinkle some roofing tacks in your lawn where the car has to cross the path of the tacks if the problem seems to persist. If you have to cut the grass or something slide the magnet along the grass and it'll pick them up. When done cutting sprinkle them through the grass again. After a few flat tires whenever they park in your grass they won't do it anymore.
It's harsh but some people are just jerks and can't understand when your being civil. Sometimes it takes a being a jerk to get a jerk to understand.

Can you go to the township and request they finish the curbing? As you said, you pay them some mighty fine money. Document document document so you have a lot to show them. It may be that because there IS no curb, they feel it's open property.
Ask the township for no parking signs to be posted. That way, the cops will have to ticket the offenders.
I was going to suggest some nice bushes along that side..but see someone else also had that idea as well. then if they DO park there and run over your bushes, it is considered destruction of private property. I also like the stone idea, nice border kind of thing.
But document document document. Especially with the dog....that is not cool.
It is frustrating and sounds like putting up something that is not permanant like the reflectors may be your only option since a fence is not allowed. Years ago there was a field across from our driveway and we use to get parked in when they would be there, besides having garbage thrown around. It was a real issue for me because when my pager went off I had to run. Once had to call police to get them to move veh. it really didnt end till they stopped having games there. Signs, asking them to not black the driveway, none of it helped, even a garbage can didnt help that part of the problem.

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
It would really bother me. I'm bothered by the people who go to the church around the corner parking in front of my house (although they've never parked on my lawn). Can you collect some rocks and make your own curb?

We also have that problem (people parking in the front of our house). I know that's not my property, but I don't park in front of other people's houses... why they insist on taking our spaces out front, I'll never know. They (being the same neighbors I've been complaining about) are the biggest offenders. They have friends over, and instead of them going past their friends' house and turning around to park on their side of the street, they pull in front of ours. My daughter and her fiance (who live with us) park there, so it frequently leaves no spots open for them.

That is INCREDIBLY rude! How can people be so inconsiderate, when clearly you have gone out of your way to keep your area clear? So glad they stopped having games there. That must've been so annoying!

You're definitely right that it's because there's no curb. Unfortunately, if the township creates the curb (they are the only ones allowed to do that kind of thing), they charge approximately $12 per foot to do it. My property on that side is about 1,200 feet. That is way too costly for my wallet... Do you realize how many trips to Disney I could take for that $$? LOL
The only time we're not charged for a curb is when the township decides to do it on their own. Funny thing is, if they put in a sidewalk, they make the homeowner pay for it, even if the homeowner didn't ask for it.
I may start by putting up my own "no parking" signs. I'd need several, but if it works, I'd be happy.
About the dogs. I understand that doggies do their thing wherever they want when they are out for a walk, but these people weren't even walking their dog. They walked right out of their house, crossed the street, and let the dog go in our side-yard, while on a leash! It wasn't like the dog got away from them and ran over... the people led him there. I'll definitely be watching out for them because that's got to stop.

I'm going to try some NO PARKING signs and see if that works. If it doesn't, I'm going to try large rocks (it will take a lot of them, but if I place them every 8', it should deter cars).
As an eternal optimist, I've always counted on people having the common sense and decency to not park IN someone's yard, but I must be giving people too much credit!
I wish I could put up a fence, but the township has an easement, so no one is allowed to put anything that close to the road. It's definitely my yard (not public property), but an easement is the township's way of still being able to plow snow onto it, or put in sidewalks... or whatever the township needs to do there.
Then you need to get the Town to agree to let you post signs that read somethign like "Private Property - NO PARKING - vehicles will be towed at owner's expense".
And then let you ENFORCE that - if someone parks there, you call whatever tow company the town police uses, and the truck hauls the offending vehicle off to the Police Impound Lot.
...
Alternately, and more expensively, you could have concrete pillars/posts installed ever 5 feet. You know, the 6" diameter ones? 4' or 5' tall should keep them visible to town plows; snow can easily be plowed through/past them (as long as the driver isn't enough of an idiot to HIT one, obviously). But noone is going to park anything bigger than a motorcycle or bicycle on your side of that line.
As for future sidewalks - the town could always put the sidewalk down just "inside" that line of posts, which certainly wouldn't impede pedestrian traffic. Or, since putting in a sidewalk involves a certain amount of excavation anyway, they could just remove the posts; wouldn't even have to ask your permission. (You should probably get a permit anyway, of course).
...
A third option would be to put in a curb YOURSELF - a nice, high one that would discourage anyone parking wheels-up on it. Maybe put in that sidewalk yourself; the town is unlikely to complain about that, right? That'd need a permit, too, and would be more expensive than you might like.
...
And finally, there's always the option of just giving up. Put a fence in at the edge of the easement; maybe get the town to accept the area o the easement being GIVEN to them outright. This solution would simply be a case of "I can't win, so I'm at least going to avoid liability".
This happened to the small part of our side yard that runs along the alley. I
finally gave up and bought some VERY large rocks that look like mini boulders.
Placed them in our yard so you couldn't park very far into the grass.
We also have our neighbors park any and all cars in front of our house every day.
They are supposed to park in their driveway but they only park 2 cars there and
the rest in front of our house. I finally went over and told them to move their
cars. They were clueless!
I live in NH in a small town. It appears that the borders of everyone's property are marked with stone walls or at least several large stones. Since rocks are "natural", could you maybe find some large rocks/boulders and put those out there? Granted you would have to mow around them or get a weed-wacker, but it should do the trick.
One of our neighbors had that problem since we were on a curve and people would miss and run in their yard. They bought these concrete pyramid barriers they were not huge but someone got their car hung up on one! they have a rod in the middle that stick down into the ground
It's also why one of my friends put big huge rocks on the edge of the grass of her front yard where she used to live. She bought them at a landscape company. It happened alot to her and she couldn't put up a fence on the front.
The rocks are allowed and it's stopped people from parking on her grass. Now they just park on the street in front of her house.
On the side of her house, she planted holly bushes. Those nice prickly ones. The neighbors kids no longer cut a path through her front lawn either.
I thought both those ideas were a good way to solve the problem since her neighbors didn't care.
