A Very Merry Disney Senior Trip: Dec 12-16 TR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It is amazing how well they can treat ones with injuries!!! Summer of 2011 we had to put DD (she was 12) in a wheelchair - she had torn her meniscus right before our trip - and doctors orders were brace and wheelchair to avoid surgery!!! She fought for the first couple hours we were there that she was NOT going in a wheel chair - then finally gave in...........and even Mickey gave her special treatment with the wheelchair!!!

Great Arrival Day. I'm not surprised the grads picked DTD for their first night, but it is surprising they were ready to go back to the resort after dinner (I'm sure they had fun no matter where they were).
Looking forward to hearing more about coping with grads and Moms.
Glad the mom was able to make it! Sounds like a great first night!
It was a great first night. I was very nervous about how this trip would go with such a large group. I normally only travel to WDW with Peter and the boys, and really only know planning for us, so considering the many personalities of our group, it went pretty well.

This trip opened my eyes even more concerning this. I was very impressed.

I think they were anxious to check out the resort and get their suitcases and claim their rooms....(I think they were also ready to ditch us!!).

Great first day!! Coming up......Day 2 our first park day!!
Today is our first park day, and the Magic Kingdom seemed the perfect choice! The five of us slept like babies, and were ready to go by 7 a.m. It was EMH this morning, so we hoped to make park opening ceremonies. We were all very excited!! After looking at the resort map, it seemed as though walking over to the OPR bus stop was closer than the Aruba or Jamaica bus stops, plus, we could stop and fill our mugs along the way. This would be the route we would take to/from our room pretty much the entire trip. The grads were not awake when we left, nor answering their phones (not sure what hour they finally went to bed), but the five of us headed out without them, anxious to soak up every minute of Disney magic we could!
l to r: Melissa, Gina, & Charlene
We had a very short wait, and soon we were on our way! We were unsure of the weather for today, since it was so early. It spoke of being warm today, so we thought we had dressed appropriately. We knew the kids could bring our jackets later if we needed them. The closer we got, the more exciting it was getting. The music, the people, the atmosphere....and then the train pulled in....the look on everyone's face was priceless!!
As we started our walk toward Main Street, we were amazed by the decorations, and then just when they thought it couldn't get any better, there it was.....the Castle!!
l to r: Gina, Melissa, Charlene, Jackie, & Me We stopped for a few pictures, then headed through the castle. We were on our way to Fantasy Land, but decided to stop at It's a Small World, something we could all ride. {Funny side story: I was in charge of Charlene this morning, and let me just say, I was not that best at manuvering a wheel chair. So we are the first 5 in line for IASW, and I'm shoving Charlene into the queue, and we had to go down an incline, and the wheel chair is picking up speed...well, you get the picture....the CM ran over, trying to hold back his laughter, and said, "I sure wish someone had gotten that on tape"....and then, he said to the other moms behind me, " I think you should take care of your friend today"...LOL. Thank goodness I didn't dump her out at the end of the ramp...but we did laugh about this many times over the course of the trip.} Next up, Mickey's Philharmagic. Everyone loved this!!! As we were exiting, one of the girls called their mom and said they were on their way out. It was around 9 a.m., and we had breakfast ADRs at 10:30, so we decided to make our way to the front of the park, so they could do the meet & greet with the princesses, and we would be closer to the monorail where we were all to meet to head over for breakfast. They had tried waking the boys, but it was fruitless, so they headed out without them. As we went through the castle, on our way back to meet them, we saw the Fairy Godmother, but we there was a small line, so we decided to just get a picture and keep going.
We met up with the girls, and they said the boys still weren't picking up their phones. We kept trying, and I was getting a little nervous about getting everyone to the Poly in time for our ADR. While some checked out a few of the shops, a few others got in line to meet Snow White.
Marissa, Melissa, & Mariah w/Snow White
We thought about getting FPs for the princess meet and greet, but the return time was during our breakfast, so we decided to just take our chances later. We saw Mary Poppins, but there was a line, so we just got pictures.
I took advantage of this time to get a few pictures of the gorgeous decorations.
It was almost 10 o'clock and I knew we needed to get to the monorail. Still no sign of the boys. We exited the park and walked over to the monorail and it started to rain, not hard, but enough to make everyone want to seek shelter, expecially since it had gotten a little chillier as well. The boys finally called and said they were at the bus stop....WHAAAAA??? I decided to just send everyone ahead, and I would wait for the boys. Since they had never been on the monorail, they were a bit nervous about knowing when/where to get off, but I assured them they would be fine. Melissa & Jackie stayed behind with me, and we were trying not to be too upset with the guys, but it was going to be a huge dissapointment if we missed our first ADR. It started to rain harder, so we had to seek shelter. We moved to the covered dock where the boat leaves from. Finally, at 10:30, the guys showed up. We RAN to the monorail, and luckily, it was ready to pull out. We were a few minutes late, and the others were VERY happy to see us!! We got our leis and they showed us to our table. We decided not to let this ruin our day. We were in Disney, and although we were a few minutes late, we were about to start a very memorable trip with our kids! We'll let it go........THIS TIME!
coming up.......you ate how many Mickey waffles???!!!
