As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Friday 5 October – part one: wow, this place has changed!
We both headed to work as usual in the morning, but today would be no ordinary day at work as we’d both be finishing at lunchtime, and then heading off to Disneyland Paris in the afternoon! It’s always an odd feeling for me to write something like that, as obviously with every other Disney park around the world, we have no way of doing that, with usually a hideously long flight awaiting across different time zones.
Mark actually made it back before me, which surprised me, as he works further away than I do from home, but in fairness, I had gone to see if I could find some blank CDs in town, but I couldn’t, and I was a bit later leaving than I’d planned...
Fortunately, for once, both of us had just about packed everything, so there were only the last few bits to go into the case, and then we were loading up the car. As those of you who drive to Disney already know, driving is a bonus, as it allows you to travel with whatever you want, rather than worrying about how much your case is going to weigh for your flight. I usually tend to take that to extremes, throwing three or four different sweatshirts into the car.... It also means you can take your own food, so we were sure to stock up with drinks, and snacks to see us through, especially as one of us hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast!
We set off for the Eurotunnel terminal at around 12:40pm, which worked well. I figured that should get us there early enough to get us on to the earlier train, provided it wasn’t full of course...
The clouds were looking ominous as we drove down, but there was also some blue, and at least it was dry, which was the main thing...
I particularly liked the fact that the GPS had us driving across the Channel – if only!
We were soon at the terminal, but sadly obviously the train ahead of ours was full, as the only option it gave us was the one we were already booked on. Oh well, we’d tried...
We parked up and headed into the terminal building, and my goodness, this has certainly undergone a few changes since we were last here. In fairness, when we came with Wendy in June, which was our last time here, we hadn’t gone into the terminal, we’d gone straight off to the train, so I think the last time we came inside would’ve probably been for our September 2010 trip all the way through France and down to Mark’s parents’ villa in Spain. My goodness, I can’t believe it’s been that long already – where on earth does the time go?
After a quick restroom stop, Mark headed straight for Burger King to get some food. There was a long line that moved exceptionally slowly. We stood there for about five minutes, moving forward a little, but when Mark looked and realised that they didn’t have much food already prepared, he decided that was it, and left the line.
At first he stomped (and I do mean stomped ) over to duty free, where I started to browse. He wasn’t in a good mood (lack of food can do that to you... ), so I told him to go and find something in the quarter of an hour we still had before the first boarding call. Off he went, and got nicely ripped off for a sandwich and a bag of crisps (chips to you guys...). When he handed over £5 ($7.75) and got no change, he was a bit horrified...
We had a look in a couple of shops, and then headed back to the car, seeing this parking spot on the way, which Mark insisted I took a photo of...
Then we waited for the first call, with Mark having his sandwich as we waited. Then we were on our way...
For once, our luck held out and we didn’t get stopped for the nice random security check, and we were straight in line in one of the first lines to board.
This thing always freaks me out! Even though I know we can fit under it, I still worry..
We were only there a few minutes, and then we started to move. We ended up joining a line of traffic to get down to the train, but it was fine, as it gave me the chance to get some photos of the nearby countryside, including a photo of the famous Kentish horse on the hills above the terminal...
As we approached the train, the woman was waving everyone on to the top level, but we stopped and asked to go on the lower level, with me explaining that I get sick if I go upstairs (not a lie either ) and fortunately she let us go downstairs.
Within 10 minutes, we were off and running. I’m so glad that we were able to get on the lower level, as my goodness, it was probably the roughest journey we’ve ever had on the Eurotunnel. You could really feel us moving from side to side, and I dread to think what it would’ve been like, had we been on the upper level.
