Cows, crowds and countryside a family getaway COMPLETED - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was just about to PM you to ask how you were and see when you would be starting your Paris TR since I really missed reading your daily updates! Well, now I see two TR's and one about to start! Yay!
Love the pictures of the English countryside! I really MUST visit England soon!
The house looks great! The bell system reminds me of a scene from Sense and Sensibility (the Emma Thompson version). And yay for the cows!

What a beautiful drive through the country villages. That house looks wonderful. Big enough for 18 to spread out in! Love your room with the en suite. That's a great herd of cows-- is the house part of a dairy farm?
I think once upon a time it was and it's still owned by the farm to let out. I'm guessing - and it's just a guess here - that judging by the architecture inside, it may have been a farm house in days gone by, as the stables are nearby and are also now holiday lets. Then maybe, the farmer either built a house for his family or acquired one, as they live nearby now.

Well, I figured I'd better get going with something, as people would no doubt be having withdrawl symptoms...
The Disneyland Paris one won't start much (if at all) before Friday, but it will come and it will be in the Disneyland Paris forum when it does start.
However, once that's done, you probably will have to wait until December for the big (and no doubt very long...) trip report about our WDW/Fantasy/Disneyland vacation.
21 September part three: now thats an unusual cake...
After a while, the owner came over to run through things with us. As soon as she mentioned the words cows, I was so there! Everyone fell about laughing, as I sidled up to her to hear more. I was asking all about the calves they had oh my goodness, I so have to see those while were here!
After that, we all did our own things for a while. I retreated to the room to sort through the photos Id already taken on the way down. Sadly there was no Wi-Fi, so thered be no checking of the boards this weekend...
Eventually, dinner started to be prepared, but there was talk of people going out for a walk to go and see the cows we could see on the horizon. Dont they look beautiful in the sunlight?
I was ready and raring to go and at least one of the kids was too, but it was the adults we were having a problem getting ready to go. Look the kids are ready...
Finally, all of us were set and off we went. Four kids and four adults... just as well there were that many, as I was busy taking photos and was no use supervising the kids at all.
We stopped first to see the horse in the neighbouring field, which seemed to be good tempered, until Sean complained that hed bitten him, but he did seem to get on well with him...
We headed a little way up the road, then turned up a country track to go and see the cows. The sky was just beautiful as the sun was now setting and was putting on quite the show....
Look at all those cows in the field behind our house!
Somewhere though, someone was getting the rain...
Soon we were with the cows and they were absolutely adorable. All the kids kept telling me I really loved cows... I kind of already knew that and Im sure you guys did as well...
We decided to head back before the rain headed any further our way, but in fairness, as far as we know, it never actually arrived, which was bizarre, having seen it so nearby.
When we got back to the house, it wasnt long before it was dinner time. The kids ended up eating in the kitchen around the table, while all the adults were in the dining room. That worked for me. The dinner was lovely I had a home cooked moussaka that Anne had made, as were the only two veggies and it was beautiful. I love moussaka, but Mark doesnt, so this was a rare treat for me.
Then we moved on to dessert and cake, but it was no ordinary cake.... as you can see:
It had been specially designed for Marks dad, as he likes his chocolate, especially Ferrero Rocher. I have to say it was absolutely decadent and very, very nice.
We sat around and chatted a while, before we gave in and headed to bed. It had been a long day and we were totally out of energy now.
The weather today was dry and cloudy with some sun and temperatures in the low 60s. The best thing today was the beautiful house we were staying in, with cows right outside. The worst thing today was the traffic we ran into on the way down. The funniest thing today was the kids reaction to my love of cows! Today we tried taking the back roads down to our destination And the result was we saw some beautiful sights along the way. The most magical moment today was getting close up to so many cows!
What a beautiful area, with the rolling hills. The cows are wonderful-- such gentle faces. I grew up next to a dairy farm and the farmer always used to say you could tell when it would rain because a lot of the cows would lie down in the field. So I guess your cows knew it wouldn't actually rain that day!

I know that is an old saying, but after spending most of my childhood growing up with a field of cows behind us (that's where my love for them came from! ) I can honestly say that's not always true. I remember when it would rain, my mum and I would often look at them and say "well you've not been lying down at all today" and then on really hot days, with no rain at all, they'd be flat out for much of the day... I guess cows aren't the best weather forecasters...

I'm shocked! I remember the cows standing around in the rain also.
What a great weekend spot! And the bells made me think of Downton Abbey!
You'd think this was a spot picked for your birthday celebration, with all those cows! Hope beef isn't on the menu.....
