I thought we were going to WDW.... but this is Disneyland - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry, you were not able to book your next trip to WDW. But you will love staying at the Grand Californian, we are also somewhat local, live about an hour or so away and have had several stays at VGC and enjoy each trip even though we are local.

[QUOTE=TNTWheels;3891506][QUOTE=Disney4us2;3887776]Well with those three trips and shopping sprees and paying bills. I went through the back pay quickly. It is hard to be on a fixed income, pay my bills etc and try to come up with the funds for another WDW trip.
I really wanted to go top WDW again, but know it is really out of reach at this time. So instead I booked Jessica and I at the Grand Californian using our DVC points for 4 nights. It is just a 45 minute drive, so no air. I already have our AP's so that is no problem.

Hi I have a wheelchair travel site and I have pictures of the Grand California's lobby and the accessible room for you to see if you are interested. Please let me know.
Thanks for the info. Liked your web site. I was in one of the non accessible rooms last month (my friend's room), I think my scooter will be fine there without the h/c access.

This will be our first time staying at the GCV. I am really looking forward to it. I am also looking forward to our early morning power walk/scoot at DCA before the park opens.

Same here, WDW air fares are still way out of reach. I am excited to stay down at Disneyland. We usually just day trip there.

When are you going? My mother won 4 tickets to the parks so we are trying to see when we can go. I might just take the two tickets and go with a friend instead of going with my mom since my step father doesn't have off until Memorial weekend and that may be a mad house. Also the free tickets have black out dates that are before and after Easter and we have until June 9th to use them. I was hoping to do an Easter time Disney oh well. By the way I'm glad you like my site, I will be putting up the Aulani Resort from HI soon once it's been edited.

Tentative Dining Plans Spring break plans
Well my plans for our TS dining will be pretty much like our WDW plans. I love Storytellers Cafe, both the character breakfast as well as the dinner buffet. I think we will be doing one of each.
I haven't tried the Surf's up breakfast at PPH, so that is also on our list as well as dinner at Goofy's Kitchen.
The last TS is for one that we have not been to before. That is Steakhouse 55. I am anxious to try it out.
I wanted to try Napa Rose but thought the food was just to foofoo for Jessica's taste. She has a wide variety and will eat almost everything, especially sushi, Too bad the Japanese restaurant at PPH closed down. She would have loved it.
Another place on our radar is the new Carthay Circle Theater, but I have a feeling we will try it out before our stay
We both love the character dining and look forward to it. It is something we don't always do when we are at the park for the day.
I am also thinking of doing the Fantasmic dessert. We have done it before back in 2005. I know they have changed things up a bit with the desserts. We may end up doing it during the summer instead of during our stay.
In the mean time, we are looking forward to seeing the crowds during spring break. Don't plan on doing many rides but a lot of pin trading. Jessica loves to set her pins out at the barrels at the entrance to Frontierland. She could spend hours there, and we usually do. I wonder how crowded it will be next week?????
Your choices sound good to me. We were at Disneyland over spring break in 2006 and the parks were mobbed - I seem to remember they were closed by late morning on the weekends. Fortunately, we were there after spring break as well, so that's when we did most of our stuff in the parks.
Sounds like a great trip!!! A tip regarding parking, regular parking for the Grand Californian is across the street, pull into the valet though to unload and tell them you need handicap parking, if there is none available they will valet park your car for you at no charge. Have a wonderful trip.

So much has been going on since I last posted. Time to update.
In April, I had a real scare. My father (almost 92) took a fall getting into the shower, Had to call the paramedics to come lift him up off the floor. We had a doctor appointment the next day and he ended up having a CAT scan done to make sure there was no bleeding in the brain. He is on Coumadin and that can cause problems with head injuries. The CAT scan was clear, he also didn't brake any bones. All this was just a few days prior to his trip to Laughln, NV with the senior group. He was cleared by the doctor for his short trip.
Jessica and I have been doing our Saturday trips to Disneyland and having a great time. Last week on the 15th we went to the passholder Fantasmic 20th anniversary viewing. Had a great time but it sure was a long day. We arrived before park opening and stayed until after the 11:30 viewing was over. I was pumped up on Jet Alert to keep me up for the ride home. I thought about staying overnight at Motel 6, but just wanted to be home.
It was a stressful drive for me going to and from Disneyland that day. I got a new car. It is a Toyota Rav4 and I am not used to driving a SUV. My old car was a Nissan Versa. This rides so high to me, but I am getting used to it.,
The new car makes it a lot easier to get my scooter in and out of the car, much easier on the back. It also makes for loading up for our Girl Scout camping trip.... More about that later,
