How much do you spend on groceries? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Family of 3 usually, but DD in University comes home frequently, so sometimes it's 4. Then, DD at home's friend eats with us about 1/2 the time, so 4-5 of us?
We spend about $300 a month in one trip to the grocery. This is for meat, veggies, fruits, toiletries, and dog foods.
We eat out about 2 times a week, and that's quite a lot less than we used to.. Each meal out is about $70, so we're talking $250-$300 a month on eating out.
We go through about 4 gallons of milk a week - so we make a run to the store each week, about $30 worth of fresh fruits and veggies, milk and other stuff.
DH takes leftovers to work for lunch, so we rarely have a bill from lunches. DD Lauren's lunches are billed with her tuition; yep, there is no option to NOT have school lunches!
So -about $750 total for food each month - for 3 to 5 people, depending on the day!
right now, family of 4 (2 LARGE teens) I keep it between 100-150 per week, that's one person on a GF (expensive) diet and all toiletries, paper goods, pet food, etc. last month we spent 550.00 total for JAn1-31....so not too bad!
I like to buy organic and free range meats, and use them very carefully as PART of recipes,as that's what we can afford!
I buy 2 bunches of bananas and the 5 lb bag of cuties and I'm lucky if it lasts 3 days.
!
LOLOLOL couple of weeks ago I bought 4 pounds of cuties, and left for the afternoon...when I got home my preteen (HUGE appetite) was sitting at the counter next to the pile of discarded peels...4 pounds worth of them! He said he didn't even notice he finished the entire bowl while I went out for an hour or so....I limited him to 4 at a time after that.....
We have five (2 adults, 3 kids - 1 still in diapers). I spend $80 on "non-pay week" groceries, and about $105 on pay week...in addition, I purchase diapers, Dishwasher detergent, Vinegar, Baking Soda & Rice Milk by the case and most of our chicken at Costco on a bi-monthly trip. That trip usually runs about $200. We have had a pretty significant jump in our grocery bill now that I have two with food allergies and unfortunately we have to be brand specific so coupons are far and few between. Kroger points do add up for gas rebates so I guess it's a bit of a trade off. Last month, we saved enough points between groceries and prescriptions to earn $1.00/gallon
If I come in under budget (this past week, I only needed $60 for groceries), I put the extra in our vacation jar.

Ch-Ch-Changes July 2015
[URL="http://www.passporterboards.com/forums/sharing-adventure-disney-world-trip-reports/288847-ch-ch-changes-ptr-july-16-24-a.html"]
I just spent $150 on groceries. The price per item is very high such as 80 for a hot dog bun that you would buy for 20 to 30 cents. Yogurt with goat or ewe milk or vegan is $2 a cup while regular is only 80 cents. I probably spend around $500 a month on my groceries. I got work up so I could not get to bed. I ended up eating about $20 in yogurt, caramel corn, potato chips, left over steak, couple power bars, diet Coke, vegan hemp ice cream, omg I was such a pig and now see how much was spent.
I eat out too much now that Mom is in the hospital. The only fast food I eat out at is In and Out burgers. As for saving money and food costs there is more. I split a large can of corn into 2 or 3 servings and freeze left overs. I make extra food out of a piece of meat for later eating.

Mom calls to check on me and reminded me to pay the gardener. I love her so much.
Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
We are a family of four; me, DH, DD13 & DD8. We also have a cat. I spend about $175/wk for everything, including cleaning and laundry supplies, paper and personal products, and cat food and litter. Breakfast is usually quick, Eggos or a piece of toast. We do not drink soda except for a rare treat. We primarily drink water, we keep cold filtered water in the fridge. Otherwise, it 1 cup max of OJ and/or milk & tea. I make dinner at home, but a couple nights (work nights) are a quick dinner like a can of soup or leftovers. On the other nights we do things like pasta or stirfry.
Lunch is additional, DH about $10/day and the kids usually have hot lunch. I eat at home. So lunches are close to $300/mo.
I do my shopping at between Sam's, Target, & the local grocery store and eating out is now about 3-4/month, typically a take out we take home, about $25-30.
I speand about $200 every 3 weeks or so on a big grocery order. In between that, probably about $40 a week on buying lunch or dinner at work and picking up random perishables (like more yogurt/veg/cold cuts) at the grocery store. But, that $200 includes my food and cat supplies (food and litter) along with paper goods (tp, paper towels) and sometimes cleaning supplies.
I buy a mix of pre-made and stuff to cook meals with. Which reminds me to pull meat of of the freezer to defrost for the slow cooker tomorrow...lol, thanks!
I have been hard at work trying to slash our grocery bill and other expenses. I just today posted on my blog my February grocery budget and shopping trips.
Feel free to check it out if you wish, I am no expert and have lots to learn but I am pretty happy with the Feb plan. Meanwhile I will be following along here to see how others are doing.
Family of 5, me, DH and 3 DS's (17, 15, and 9). We spend a fortune - between $800 and $900 a month just at the grocery store. I plan dinner menu for two weeks at a time, most dinners are sit down, then the usually quick breakfast items and school lunch items. We go out maybe once on the weekend- not always all of us- so that is usually another 50-70 depending on where we go. For Valentines I made my DH a steak with a reduced berry glaze and blue cheese topping (paula deen's -excellent!) Lemon glazed grilled asparagus, cheesy stuffed mushrooms, and tres leche for dessert. That one meal cost $97! It was so dang good and when it was over my husband said "I can't wait until the kids are gone and we can eat like that all the time!" I just can't wait until I don't have to buy 3-4 gallons of milk a week. Whew!

We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids 17yoDD, 11yoDS) and we spend about $450-500/5-6 weeks. We don't buy meat often though, we do have venison and then we eat pork and chicken. We buy a combination of 'easy' foods and made from scratch foods.
