Celebrating Halloween-Disneyland Style - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you made the best of the rain! Glad you enjoyed Matterhorn - we both hated it, too intense for us - and as for the Haunted Mansion, we're not Jack fans at all, but we really enjoyed it. I wouldn't wait 75 minutes to see it though! :

What I LOVE about southern California is the sun eventually does come out. And WOW!!! did it come out. It was a beautiful day! Awesome! So, having changed our game plan from "one land at a time" to do whatever feels right--DD and I were off--bright and early! Out the door by 8:00am, which in Nebraska is 10:30. Considering I'm at work at 6:30 every morning--I slept in! Gotta love traveling WEST from fly over country.
Forgot to mention--the day before we'd stopped in the rain, gotten a Dole Whip and sat watching the Tiki Room show relaxing in a partially full hall, snuggled down with our Dole Whip! PERFECTION never tasted so good!
So today, we started the day like we always do at Disney--chocolate croissants and hot tea! YUM!!! Okay, I'll admit, I love the food at Disney!
Then off to DLR to do what--ride Space Mountain. Yes, this morning is Tomorrowland Day. Space Mountain, Star Tours, okay-we couldn't wait until DH got there, had to ride it NOW. Then Buzz--194,000 points. Mama really had a good run. Well, it helps when the ride is stopped for a little while. Rack up those points!! And the clock ticks closer to the magic 9:15am, when we were told that we could get into DCA and ride Little Mermaid early, get fast passes to World of Color and be closer to TSMM for the "walk". Do we jump parks, or stay there? Well, we're in Tomorrowland and the Monorail is in Tomorrowland and we love the Monorail--so we jump, well ride over to DTD, walk through VGC. THAT is so cool! Flash the room key, swipe the park pass and walk right into the middle of the park--and that's what we did!
Well, Mermaid was down so we work our way to the front of the mass of people waiting for the rope drop and WALKED very quickly down to TSMM where we pretty much walked through the que and onto the ride. I love that ride! DD actually BEAT me!!!! Then we sauntered around PP looking in shops that hadn't been open the last time we were there, picked up FP for Goofy's Flying School, shopped some more, rode Little Mermaid--now open, headed back to the room for a little lunch. After an hour break, we headed back to DCA for more fun! Another trip through TSMM--this time we waited 30 minutes! DD beat me AGAIN! The off to Monsters Inc--I love Sully! And we can't forget a Mickey Bar!!!!
Enjoying your report, we did have beautiful weather after the rain. Isn't it great being able to walk right into the park from VGC. Looking forward to reading more.

DD kept track of her "steps" our first two days. Each day we logged between 17000 and 24000-which she equated to 8-10 miles!!! Well I know that Ezekiel was right--the foot bone is connected to...you get the idea! If my feet hurt, then so did everything that was connected!!!! So about 4:30 we decided to go back to the room by way of World of Color Picnic area and grab a rest before DH sailed in for the evening. After all--we have to keep going. Alice--remember Alice?? We're still looking at everything through Alice's eyes.
World of Color Picnic--I ordered this before we left home and VGC printed out our voucher when we checked in. We needed to pick up the "basket" before the first showing of World of Color. I ordered three of the "fried chicken" dinners which consisted of two pieces of chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, and a apple pie "wrap" along with a choice of bottled drink. If you got a kids meal it came with a light up bracelet, which of course we didn't get as we had no kid's meal. Every four meals came with a "tote bag"--a heavy plastic bag similar to what the "green" bags you purchase to use/reuse in a grocery store.
This seems to be the "in" thing now adays. The bag-decorated with World of Color emblazoned across the bag would not stand up to many reuses, and only large enough to hold four dinner "plates". I'm not sure you could get the sodas in the bag if you had four dinners, but we did well.
Of course, we were hungry, so we stopped to get a snack--popcorn and wanted the Halloween cup. For about $14 you could get popcorn or caramel corn in a Mickey Ghost statue/cup. Of course, if it's Mickey, I'm gullible so DD and I both got a bucket of popcorn and lugged all of this back to the room. The dinners went into the fridge (chicken is a cold chicken) and we made some iced tea and munched on popcorn until our heads (or mine anyway) nodded into a nap.
The walking had taken it's toll on my back, so I drug up--better living through modern chemistry--and the pillows go under the knees. DD--well I honestly don't know what she did. And don't really care--she's 26 and can fend for herself!!! DH got in later than expected--about 6:15, so it was a hurried dinner and then out to walk about a little before getting our places for World of Color.
The chicken dinners were quite tasty and there was even left-overs for hubby to enjoy later!!!
Did you only get one bag for all 4 dinners? We got one bag/dinner, so 4 total. I still have my bags and use them every week at the grocery store (we went in July 2010).
It said in the flyer-on bag per for every four dinners. These bags may be a little different. It's not a very heavy duty bag--but very colorful! I thought the picnic was well worth the expense. We were front and center and could have been in the "splash zone" had we wanted to spend an hour sitting and waiting.

This is a stand-only viewing, so those needing to plant a backside against concrete better bring their own wheeled conveyance. Feet only! No tushies allowed on the cement!
Crowd Levels--mind you this was a Thursday night in pre-holiday October--so crowd levels are not equal to high season or weekends. Using the picnic got us into a preferred section, so we were able to go and ride a couple of rides and we showed back up about 30 minutes prior to the show. Our view was excellent for that. DH stands as a tree when down front and DD is vertically-challenged--figure THAT one out! So we try to get as far down front as we can and then squeeze DD a little farther down front since she is too old to sit on daddy's shoulder. (I don't even want to think of the stares we'd get with that one ).
The show itself--well, I'll start by comparing it to the only other water, light, fire, laser show outside Disney I've EVER seen--Bellagio in Vegas. There is no--NO comparison. Disney has taken their best and brightest and come up with next generation WOW!!!! I didn't know you could do that with water. The movie scenes flashing up into/onto the water mist was mind blowing. The mixing of fire and water--astounding. The presentation was fast-paced and cohesive. The colors bright. The entire display was delightful to see, to the point of tired feet, not feeling tired.
The ONLY negative I can come up with doesn't even deal with the show. It's too bad that the lake/lagoon in the center of Paradise Pier shows all of these elements to the show all the time now. The expense of the show was to lose the centerpiece of the Paradise Pier. And that is noticeable during the daylight hours. However, if someone said, I'll give you this next gen, breath-taking, truly NOT TO MISS show, but you will have to give up the lake/lagoon, I'd take the show!
I haven't looked at my pics to see if they were as breathtaking as my camera said they were. I'll try and add a couple if they are, though I'm technically challenged at the moment.
