Three Weeks in The World and 20 Happy Thoughts: a DTR (During Trip Report!) - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

sadly, no. it's not a money issue, it's a time issue. he only has two personal days per year...plus it is september so he can't really take off from work at all (he's a teacher) PLUS he's teaching a college course that he's never taught before--basically he's swamped. i tried to convince him to come down on a friday night (to leave on sunday) and just use the 2.5 hour flight each way to get work done, but it's just not possible. he's promised me that we can do a disney trip sometime sooner rather than later--though i have no idea when that would be. perhaps sometime in march he can take a long weekend with his two days. or, rather, february--as my AP expires in march!
Can't wait to read all about it! But I'll have to catch up after being on holiday in Scotland for 12 days of your trip.
have a WONDERFUL time in scotland! i'm jealous--that's on my short list of places i want to visit. i have every single airfare alert set up for flights from anywhere near here to london (cheaper to fly into and take a train around) so that i can do a GB tour! have an amazing trip!
So is there going to be any running...leaping bushes...and apparel issues this trip??
I'm literally tickled again...thinking about your last trip with Mom
well, given that i'll be there for so long there's bound to be some sort of amusing issue! hopefully i'll be able to deal with whatever it is when it happens with a smile, knowing that at the very least, it will amuse others!

welcome! i've been reading your TR as part of my 'trying to get pumped up for this trip' plan. so thanks for that!
Can't wait to hear about all of your adventures in real time. And Disney tips of the day, count me in! I do hope that you manage to have some fun on your trip, as I know you will be working on your project. Thanks for taking us along with you on your adventure, I for one am looking forward to it. It will help pass the time quicker while I wait not so patiently for my November trip.
So I said I'd make a list of 'things I'm looking forward to', and so I shall. I also thought about making a list of things I'm NOT looking forward to, but I realized that wouldn't be a list--it would be only one item: 1. Missing my husband.
But that's kind of eclipsed by all of the things--Disney-related and otherwise--that I'm looking forward to. So, without further ado, here it is...
During my three weeks in 'the world', I'm looking forward to...
-taking my mom back to WDW and, especially, back on soarin. it was her favorite, and i know she can't wait.
-in that same vein, i'm excited to take mom on splash mountain. she loves flume rides but we didn't ride back in may--it seemed like there was never a good time to be soaking wet. this year we WILL ride!
-again with the mom thing--taking my mom to the wizarding world. i've made her watch the first four movies in anticipation, and i think she's pretty excited. i just hope she liked FJ--and isn't freaked out or scared. her favorite thing in the world is 'feeling like she's flying', so i think FJ will be a big hit!
-spending time in the real world with my passporter friend, Melissa Sue. to be honest, this is probably the thing i'm most looking forward to . i cannot express how excited i am that she's joining me for a few days--and i'm pretty darn good at expressing things!
-riding star tours. it was being restored the only two times i've been to DHS, so i've never ridden before. i'm super psyched!
-attempting to see the new little baby elephant that was just released into KS.
-eating at flame tree bbq. it always smells so good, but i've never tried it.
-eating at kouzzina. another one i've wanted to try but never had the time. i have an ADR with melissa sue!
-speaking of melissa sue, i have to add this one: beating melissa sue at TSMM! or at least attempting to beat her!
-checking out jellyrolls on the boardwalk (again with melissa sue--can you tell i'm excited about her visit?)
-seeing what it is like staying off site AND having a car. this will be very different for me.
-checking out the water parks.
-checking out the resorts i've not yet visited--particularly POP and POFQ
-spending some time taking photos with my new(ish) dslr camera. i'm still not sure how that's going to work--i can't see going on rides with it--but i guess other people do???
-sharing some of those photos--and stories of my days--with all of you, here!
-possibly running into some of you in the parks. keep your eyes open--i'll be the girl in the dress with the fake pony tail buns and the note pad! (though for the first time ever, i'm bringing shorts on a trip with me. so don't hesitate if you think you see me and i'm wearing bermuda shorts and a t-shirt--it might be me!)
-and, finally...coming home to see my husband after three weeks. sorry--had to throw that one in there.
so--what do you think i should be excited about? any suggestions for me? what would you do with three weeks in WDW? i'm very open to suggestions!
I will be there for a week starting Saturday and hope to see you in the parks!
I know it is a long time away from hubby, but I think you will have a great time!
