A reason for the "No Children" on ECV's - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Seems like someone always has to get hurt before others learn why those warnings are there..
I was also hurt because of a person not following the rules, I got 2 toes broken from a out of control ECV user..

Yikes! to all these "accidents". I wish the CMs would make some attempt to enforce the rules, at least for the scooters rented right at the parks. Broken toes and a back injury are big deals!
I think they should make renters sign a sheet with "Scooter riding rules" So that it is clear, no kids on laps and turn off scooter when stopped, to name a few...

That is actually part of the rental agreements.
People sign it but don't abide by it.

Think about people sitting on chains, kids on railings, people speeding through parking lots, no seat belts, flash photography on rides, and other things guests do. They put pictures and repeat commands yet people cannot understand rules. Cast members cannot be the police and telling people to stop breaking rules takes up their time.
Like Sue said the contracts are clear on what is allowed and not allowed by people do not use common sense and break the rules. How many guests have seen a runaway scooter or a 5 year old hurting people as he plows through a crowd pushing is stroller. People never seen some things so they just cannot grasp how dangerous scooters, wheelchairs, and strollers can be if not properly operated.

Mom calls to check on me and reminded me to pay the gardener. I love her so much.
Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
....but he was asking for it! Lol....no seriously though...as an ECV user, I always try to be aware of my surroundings and am courteous to others....AND I make sure the darn thing is turned off! I'm always amazed at the reckless stroller pushers ramming into people though....what gets into some people?
I think people that use their own ECV are a bit more safety conscious because they are use to using ECV's. People that only rent one at theme parks maybe once a year don't understand the "rules of the road" and dangers involved.
Yes, I see rule breakers everywhere at WDW, Because the rules are in place for everyone else, not them. Being weird like I am I try to stick to rules. (But I did do a flash photo on a ride at Disneyland) Sorry So did Angie

As I mentioned before, we push Mom (80 years young) in a wheel chair, because she just can't walk that much in the parks. One thing that aggravates us, is the amount of people not paying attention to their surroundings, and walking right in front of the wheel chair. Mom only weighs 125 pounds, but you still can't stop the chair on a dime. 1, we just can't do it, and 2, if we do try, we run the risk of Mom falling out of the chair from stopping too fast. At least once or twice each trip, we have taken out the ankles of adults and children who step right out in front of us.
The other group of people who really make us mad, and Mom too, are the ones who think just because we are pushing a wheel chair, they can cross over in front of us. One guy almost fell in Mom's lap, because he was going too fast, and tripped. (Not on the chair.) That was 8 months after Mom's hip replacement surgery, and when Mom jumped/flinched because of it, she hurt her hip, and was in pain for the rest of the trip, and the long drive home to northern Illinois.
Our next trip in January, we will not only have Mom in the wheel chair, but my sister will be on an ECV because of a bad knee. It will be interesting to maneuver both, and challenging at the same time.

That sort of thing is a challenge with a scooter as well. It's amazing how people walk sideways, stop in the middle of a walkway, step backwards without looking. It's bad on the sidewalks at home, but worse at WDW because people are so often not looking where they're going.
I just used an ECV for the first time due to my walking issues with osteoarthritis......I felt "invisable"......People would just stop in front of me, cut me off, walk right up to the scooter and expect me to go around them....it was really a wake-up for me to see just how difficult it is for those who need to rely on ECVs all the time. Some people were rude but mostly, they just were unaware of what they were doing. I did have to sign a contract that I would be the "only" driver on the scooter I rented.

DD, Grace, used her wheelchair for the first time at WDW in 2009. We had the same thing happen to us. Ramoan, my DBF, started yelling at people to move out of the way or making siren sounds to alert people that they were about to walk into the wheelchair, or get hit because they stopped suddenly. Once, when he was at the Tomorrowland arcade, Grace and I waited for the opening of ToonTown Fair so we could see the fairies first thing. Well, were towards the back of the pack, but people still JUMPED over her in her wheelchair so they could get in line first. We had several stroller pushers cut us off, only to have to stop and leave the strollers outside. It was a madhouse. We decided after that to just wait until after the opening from then on. (Oh, and someone even left their baby out in one of the strollers!!)

giggle back!
People do all sorts of dangerous things.
And, a lot of times, if a CM does say anything to them, they stop just long enough for the CM to get out of sight.
My younger brother is a CM, and we are always in the parks with him. If he sees someone doing something dangerous, or out of line, he will find a CM to report it to.
One year, we were at MGM, (now Hollywood) Studios, in line for the Studio Backlot Tour. We were in the building where all the props were on display, everyone was patiently walking through the building looking at all the props....except one guy. He kept trying to get himself and his family past us, and we spread out so that wouldn't happen.
Next thing we know, he shoves his (I'm assuming) wife, 2 small children, and Mother (Mother-in-law?) past us, my brother was still walking, pushing our Mother in the wheel chair, and the guy gets mad that the chair hit his ankles!! He then wanted to start a fist fight with my brother!!
The guy said a few choice words at my brother, then went on ahead, pushing his way past other families.
When we got to the loading area, we found a CM Manager, told them of the situation, and as we were loading the ride, we saw the CM Manager escorting the man and his family away from the ride.
It's a shame that there are people like that, and it's sad that we had to ruin that family's day, but their family member tried to ruin ours.
