I have had mine for a few months and I am mostly used to them now. I keep my old glasses to see far away things with around, just in case even though the prescription for those is a little off. It took me a while to get used to them. If I am really tired, I still sometimes get a headache from my eyes adjusting back and forth and sometimes it is just easier to take them off. My eye dr. had me ease into them by wearing them just for a little while each day and then switch to my old glasses (since I can't see up close OR far away now!) and gradually increase the time. That helped. I have the ones with no lines and that helped a lot too. A few years ago they had me in bifocals with lines and I couldn't see a thing until they readjusted the placement of the line.

Being you have a mild prescription I was going to recommend that you go to the 99 cent store and try those prescription reading glasses that the 99 cent store has but they have not had them for many months.

Thus keep your eyes open an places like Walmart, Target etc. and find the display glasses rack priced around $12.00 or ????. They are marked with different strengths. Try a pair on and READ something at the distance you would regularily read to find the correct strength.

I suspect from what you say that you are only having reading problems and not distance. Depending upon how high the bifocal is cut (lens ground) can make a difference on your head movement to adjust to reading. Anyway, try a pair.

Of course this is not a substitute for having your eyes checked which you should do and is definitely recommended.

Before my eye got worst, in the same situation as you are now, anoyed with the bifocals, no problem with distance, I used and carried one of these $12.00 pair (then $1.00 at the 99 cent store) for reading only. It was several years after that I went to bifocals becausel I needed distance for driving. Actually only reading the street name signs at a closer distance.

I did get regular checkups (well, almost) kinda like spreaded them out a litle longer than recommended as my eye strength didn't change very much and a couple of times I was informed that I didn't need new glasses and everything was okay.

The bifocals can be a little problem moving your head forward or back to skip the bifocal line.

As an extra pair of glasses and your eyes being on the week side, etc. at least try an inexpensive pair....before you purchase. Also basically these are the same lenses you pay more for. The added cost is for the exam.

In the future someone will recommend tri-focals. kidding, shoot them on the spot. If you think you are having problems now....err..... enough said.

Short of this and if your distance is okay, I recommend that your eyes be checked, which you have already, and consider only a "reading" glass which is bifocals, and not both. Other than for reading at home you might need them only for reading smaller print in stores. In cases (in stores) you might not need them unless you are looking at small print like on food cans, etc.

My DH is an optician and we all (DH, DS and I) have our eyes checked regularly. DS had lazy eye issues as a baby so we are right on top of "keeping an eye" on our eyes (pun intended). And my insurance pays for an exam every year for all of us, so that's not an issue. The doctor (and DH) both indicated that starting with a mild scrip is easier than waiting til you need the stronger one. Luckily DH works for a very reputable doctor so I'm not worried about them trying to get me to buy something I don't really need. I am nearsighted, so when I'm wearing my glasses and doing computer work or watching tv, if I look down, things get blurry and constantly taking them off is a pain, but with the bifocals I can adjust pretty easy. I'm getting used to them...stairs seem to be the biggest issue.
