I Thought Florida Was Supposed to be Warm! Dec 9th-17th 2010 - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry it was so cold for you. Sadly, having been to Florida many times in December, that is the risk you take going then - although we've had some beautiful weather, we've also usually had a couple of freezing days... it seems to happen every year!
Wow - that is damn COLD! (and I'm from MA originally.) And I hear you on the cold and fibro, more than one friend has that or some other immune disorder such as Lupus or RA, and the cold really does a number on you.
I'm glad that you were able to fit in as much as you did with all the cold, go you!
Reading this I keep remembering a neighbor going a few years ago and while we were warm here in De he called and had us ship down their winter coats
That was after he had lt us know they for two days prior had been in shorts and tee shirts
great TR! sorry about the cold, it does make for a miserable time but i'm glad you guys are making the best out of an icky situation!! can't wait to hear more.
we're going this December for almost the same dates, so reading this is giving me GREAT insight on what to expect!! weather and crowd wise
We also traveled last year during the "freeze"! It was my husband and my handicap sons first trip and I was so sad that it had to be less than wonderful because of the cold! I travel almost every year with my older kids and their families and this has always been one of my favorite times of the year to be at WDW. It was so miserable this past Dec. that I could have cried. We had to leave the parks as soon as the sun went down because we could not stand the cold! Half of the family got the flu that had been brought to florida by some brazilians that were traveling in big group there. Had to go to redi clinic as they were so sick. Doc at readi clinic said, "Strange, we have only seen this flu in people here from Brazil" My daughter states, "Dah.....where do you think they are right now!" LOL. It was such a let down to have my husband and son's probably only trip to Disney be less than perfect! Anyway, as always we have another trip planned this OCT. Cruise then land for 7 days, but without the cold this time! I hope for all you December travelers there is no more freaky winter weather this year.
Yall look really cold! I need to look for the glassblower next year while we are there and see if we can get a custom made ornament! That was really cool!

I can't believe how cold it was for you two! Forbidden Journey is truly awesome, but I wouldn't want to be stuck on it on my back.
WWOHP was much more "authentic" seeing all the snow on the roofs! Being stuck lying down on FJ was only scary when I got too hot. Once I wiggled out of my coat I thought about taking a nap LOL!

It does seem to happen every year, but I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would skip over us while we were there. No such luck! But we did try to make the best of it. It definetely felt "Christmas-ey" hee hee!

Damn Cold is right!!! haha! Between the cold and the Fibro, I tried my very best not to have a meltdown everyday. It was difficult, and DH is great about asking me if I'm doing OK. Sometimes I push myself to keep going to make sure we do everything on our list. I think if this had been our first trip I WOULD have cried! Luckily we have been a few times before so we didn't feel too dissappointed that we couldn't ride Splash Mountain or enjoy Fantasmic.

Sounds like your nighbor has the same luck that I do!! This past winter we got about 8 inches of snow in North Alabama, which is a BIG DEAL!!! We normally get less than an inch! This winter was just rotten all the way around. We are seriously talking about moving to FL someday! By the way, my DH visited Maine a few years ago in January and said he has never been so cold in his entire life!!! I don't know how you folks manage up there, that's insane!! And your poor doggies! My two little critters were NOT happy with the snow, and kept going potty under our deck to keep from doing their business in the snow!

Glad I could help! The crowds were heavier than I expected, but I believe it was because it was the National Cheerleading finals or something, and then the South Americans are on their summer break. We made sure the check the weather before we left and packed accordingly. I would recommend layers since it can get quite toasty inside the restaurants. I got SUPER hot and sweaty in Chefs de France!

OMG Your poor family!! I understand what you mean about leaving when the sun set. We pretty much did the same thing when we could, or dash from store to store. Hollywood Studios was the worst, since NONE of the stores had their heat on, and the kept the doors open all day. I was so worried about getting sick while there! I just knew with my rotten luck that we would, but luckily we didn't. I definetley would have cried if I were you! I'm so glad you guys are gonna give it another try in a warmer time of year. Keep your fingers crossed you don't have any hurricanes. Our wedding anniversary is in Oct and every year we end up with a tropical storm or hurricane on our anniversary. I can't complain though, because our wedding day was warm and sunny. But hey, if it's raining, it's an excuse to take off your shoes and play in the rain!! Free water fun!

Hi there! The glassblower was in the Crystal Arts store on Main Street. He gives demos in the back of the store where the huge fernace is. He had a little hanging display of things he could make, and the ornament was one of them. I'm not sure of the schedule but even if you don't go during the holidays I'm pretty sure you can just ask him to make you one, and he will let you pick the colors and everything! Oh and I think he can even put little Mickey or Donald impressions in it(they are really small and sort of looked like tiny cookie cutters). It did take about a day and half before it was ready because after he made it he had to let it cure overnight in their special oven. So make sure you get it early in your trip so he's got time to send it to your resort.

Oh yes the Butterbeer was awesome! I had the traditional, not the slushie, since it was so cold outside! I think of it as "Diabetes in a Cup" LOL! And DH had the Hogshead brew, which he said was EXCELLENT, and like it more than any of the beers he's tried at the Germany pavillion at Epcot!!!

Thanks! We certainly tried to make the best of it. Glad you are enjoying the TR! I just noticed the pics are a bit grainy, I think it must be from compressing them before posting. Anyway thanks for reading along!

When it snows we can't keep our two in the house they love it. They wont come in until they get the snow so packed and frozen in the paw webs that it hurts them to walk. Once they thaw out its time to go right back out and cot another fresh coat of snow for me to dry off them and use me as a towel.
I don't understand why you want to move. I thought Fla stood for Far Lower Alabama

LOL! I wish! We have several reasons why we wanna move to FL, the first and most important being WDW! The other reasons include being closer to the beach and AWAY from family drama! They can't bother us if we are too far away tee hee!! Oh and your doggies have much more fur and much more body than my two little terriers-they both only weigh about 15lbs each, and are shorthair. One is a little crazy, and she does try to run around and bite at the snow because she thinks it's attacking her, but the other is miss priss and doesn't want her tootsies getting snow in them. They are delicate Southern Belles
