Duffy Goes to Disney World - the trip report - UPDATED 7/12 Day 2 Pt 2: Pictures of MSEP - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great start! I have a feeling my 4 year old is going to go nuts over Duffy when we are there in September!
If they're anything like my girls, I'd count on it!

It seems like they're everywhere! I'm surprised you were able to keep them under wraps!

I'm sorry I didn't see your last message. I'd kind of been avoiding PP while I readjusted to life! That's great that you surprised DD with her Duffy!

That's actually pretty typical of DD. If it doesn't directly involve her - or she is under the impression that it doesn't - she doesn't pay any attention to it!

Surprisingly, I didn't take as many geeky details pictures as I usually do, but I do have some really good ones of Duffy!

I should have set it up better. "Hey, what's that bag on your seat?"
Oh yay!!! I can't wait to read all the details now... You're such a sneaky mom, I love how you surprised her!

So, the surprise was revealed, we hugged and kissed the members of our family not lucky enough to be traveling with us, and made the very short trip to the airport, arriving at the quick park location about 10 minutes later. We parked, a bus pulled right up to our car (DD thought that was very ), and we were off to the airport on an otherwise empty bus.
We got to the airport and through security with relative ease and had a bit of time to kill while we waited for boarding. We debated going to the other end of the terminal to hit the Earl of Sandwich location there, but figured we'd hit it at Downtown Disney. (Spoiler alert: we didn't.) DD got a smoothie from McDonalds, and I was still stuffed from the big breakfast we'd just had, so I believe I may have gotten a bottle of Pepsi to take on the plane.
We headed to our gate, where we found out that the flight was full, and they were encouraging people to check their carryon bags. Well, we had a connecting flight through Atlanta, and I didn't really trust Airtran to get my bag to me with a stop in between, so I consolidated our four bags into three and figured we were all set. (And we were!)
Duffy was nice and comfy while we waited to go on our adventure!
The first leg of the journey was the longer one, and DD (and Duffy) did fine. She had a little trouble with her ears, and I don't know if it's because they don't go up as high when it's such a short flight, but mine hurt quite a bit.
I was glad to see that when we arrived in Atlanta, our next gate was in the same terminal, and we didn't have to go to the next one over, like my research had indicated. We found the gate with no problem, and I was able to check into a brand new state on Gowalla! (If you're not familiar with Gowalla, it's an app that you can check in wherever you go and earn cool badges. They've partnered with Disney, so I was very excited to use it at WDW. This won't be the last time you'll hear me talk about Gowalla!)
DD called my mother-in-law to tell her the news, and worked on the Disney World travel journal that I'd made up, so the time passed quickly. Duffy watched a little "Tangled" on my iPod.
We took off again, landed again and were on our way to the Alamo kiosk to get a car. I'd gotten a great deal ($41!) at the last minute, and I figured we'd be able to cram just a tiny bit more in if we were the queens of our own transportation, so I went for it. There were two cars in the compact row, and one was occupied, so we went for the other one. When we opened up the doors, an overwhelming odor of cigarette smoke greeted us.
I flagged down one of the attendants, and explained our situation. He pointed us in the direct of a free upgrade! I gave DD the choice, and after quite a bit of contemplation, we chose a Nissan Cube because it was the most unique car on the lot and we'd be sure to find it in a crowd!
We have never arrived at WDW at night, so it was a bit of a challenge to find our way in the dark. Before too long, we saw this beautiful sight:
We made it to Pop and went to get our folder from the online checkin desk. We'd been given 80s, where we'd stayed the last time we were here. I would have been concerned if we hadn't rented a car, but I didn't see us using the food court all that often, so I figured we'd be okay.
We dropped our bags in our room and headed back to the food court, where we grabbed our refillable mugs, courtesy of the QSDP, and split a pizza while watching a bit of Suite Life on Deck. It was about 9 pm by this time, and we did have rope drop plans, so after a little bit of swimming in the Computer Pool...
...and got ready for bed. I had one more surprise up my sleeve, though. DD had been looking for a full-sized Tramp to go with his full-sized Lady and her miniature Lady and Scamp for a quite a while. A while back, Disney Store had a buy-one-get-one-free plush sale, and we'd picked up a Sorcerer Mickey for me and a Tramp for DD! I'd hidden it in her suitcase and she was so very excited to see him! He and Duffy got along very well!
DD and I discussed our options, and we decided to go to the Studios in the morning and Blizzard Beach in the afternoon. The alarm was set for 7:45 and we both went to sleep fairly quickly!
Up next: would our day turn out as we'd planned? And would Duffy enjoy himself?

Love all the Duffy pictures so far. Stefanie is reading your report with me as we are huddled in the hallway due to a tornado warning. She is happier because I've said we can look for a Duffy and some outfits when we get there in a couple of weeks. I love the idea of hiding a present in the suitcase. I'm going to borrow that idea.

Cam, I'm praying that those tornados pass you right by!
