2/24-3/2 POR Riverside Trip Report- Mom and Two Girls from NH - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just getting caught up on your TR! Loving it so far. I hope DD starts feeling better soon. And LOL about your check-in. If they told me I was staying for 186 days, I think I'd force them to stand by that!

Thanks for all your replies and encouragement to keep typing...
In total for EPCOT, we figured we were there for 11 straight hours. When we checked in for dinner at San Angel Inn, it wasn't all that crowded. I really wanted to check out the new tequila bar - it looked really nice - but I couldn't with just me and the girls. So I figured I would order me up a nice margarita when we sat down for dinner. We were seated right away and our waiter came right over to us. Everyone seemed to be in a rush even though it was only 7:00 and there weren't that many patrons there. The menu is limited, so we made our choices. The sick little one had the mole chicken (which she didn't even touch) and I had the chicken dish with a cream sauce. Now get this, we placed our order and in literally 8 minutes it came out. I swear to God that is how fast it appeared. Now what does that tell you! If I were not on free dining I would have been angry. However, I now know why our waiter talked me into a top shelf margarita - so that after two sips I wouldn't care how fast the food came out! I can't believe I let the LeCellier reservation go for that night! Anyhow, I was feeling really good after one drink and the waiter asked if I wanted another (in a to go cup!). I said sure, anything to take my mind off the awful food and service.
By this time it was dark outside and everything was lit up in Epcot. I could cry just thinking back on it now. DD2 was D.O.N.E. and so wasn't I. My feet were killing me so much, that I think my ankles were swollen. The tequilla helped though. We headed out of the park and DD1 said she wanted to go on Test Track and to my surprise DD2 did too. Well I did not. I sat on a bench sipping my drink. I was really feeling it now. Stupidly I went into a store near Test Track to do some shopping. Big mistake, because I didn't even know what I was buying. Apparently, I purchased a silver charm for my Pandora Bracelet and a t-shirt that was too small for me. The charm is really nice though, it is the swirl design of a mickey head.
We really lucked out and didn't have to wait for a bus at all - back to the resort we headed. I must add that DD2's fever broke that night, but not after I had to give her an ice sponge bath for most of the night! This was comical you see, because of the drinks I had consumed - but I made it work.....
Resort Day and Dinner at Boma!
I planned this day to be a day we hung by the pools and maybe did a little bit of shopping. I had intentions of renting surrey bikes, but that never happened. There just wasn't enough time to do everything! The weather was once again gorgeous (how lucky were we to have that type of weather at the end of February!). Breakfast consisted of my own iced coffee and a trip to the food court. This morning DD1 and I got the make your own yogurt parfait. The choices of toppings were incredible! Dried bananas and cranberries, fresh berries, granola and raisins. The yogurt is plain and I like it a bit sweeter, so I added some honey from the condiment station. (I'm brilliant - LOL).
We headed to the main pool and found some chairs and settled in. To be honest, we liked the quiet pool much better so after a while we moved to that one. But not without first getting a cocktail (Long Island Ice Tea for myself) and the girls had a mock pina colada and rasberry mixture. They were delicious.
For lunch we headed by boat to DTD again. Believe it or not my feet and ankles were still killing me after the Epcot marathon we did the day before. So I sat on a bench while the kids shopped some more. (I now know why our aging population partakes in this activity). LOL...no disrespect meant there because I'm was right there with ya!
I did go into the Christmas shop and bought DD2 a new Christmas stocking (Eeyore) and I got a couple of ornaments. For lunch, I was dying to try Earl of Sandwich. The line was out the door, but I was determined to try it. We decided we would get it "to go" and eat back in our room and rest before heading to AKL later that day. The line moved very quickly, they sure have it down to a science there! The kids both got the caprese and I had the All American: Caprese = fresh mozzarella, roma tomatoes, fresh basil and balsamic vinagrette. All American = Roasted turkey, buttermilk ranch, cranberries, cheddar cheese and tomatoes. All I have to say is WOW! to die for...we raved about them for the rest of the trip.
Back in our room we ate and rested before getting ready for our AKL visit. Now I stayed at this resort about 6 years ago and fell in love with it. That was an adult only trip so this would be the first time the kids would see it too! I decided to take a taxi to this resort (bus hoping was not happening for this gal). It was easy, I asked the kind CM's at bell services to call me a taxi and in two minutes it appeared. Now, even though this was simpler than taking a couple of disney buses, I must admit that leaving the "bubble" of happiness to ride in a taxi with a digruntled driver was stinky! All he did was complain about how he couldn't understand why people keep coming back to WDW....and the meter kept on ticking. $15.00, $16,00, $17,00, $18,00 (I'm watching it tick up every couple of seconds). At the AKL gate, the car in front of us had a lot of questions for the gate keeper, apparently, so our taxi driver had to wait. But the meter did not stop until it reached $22.00!! Needless to say we took buses home...
The kids loved this resort and said they wished they could stay there some day. I agreed. Of course, we checked out the gift shop and I showed them the pool area and savanah. We checked in for our Dinner Reservation at Boma and only had to wait a few minutes. I forgot to mention that DD1 has a severe allergy to all shellfish. Even though we are epipen ready and we know what to look for, a chef did come to our table and explained what she could and could not eat. Actually, at every restaurant (except Mexico) a chef explained the foods. They were all wonderful.
Dinner here is so good - the coconut, chicken curry soup is to die for. Peanut rice and meats and sauces were so good. I was so full by the time we had desert that I couldn't even eat it. The kids loved everything and DD2 was feeling a bit better so it was a really nice meal. The place was very busy!
We walked to the bus stop and took the first bus that came (Epcot) - that was easy. Then at Epcot we literally walked right onto our Resort Bus. Another fun filled day and another peaceful walk through POR back to our lovely room and towel animals, compliments of Louisa!

Okay, tequilla and shopping do not mix......check. LOL I'm so glad your DD is feeling much better at this point and that you were able to eat at Earl of Sandwich. My DH and I thought the line was outrageous, too and like you we were thrilled at how quickly it moved and how soon we were eating the yummy sandwiches......now, I'm hungry .

Sounds like the margarita was very good! You had me laughing about your purchases that evening! Dinner at Boma sounds wonderful! I'm excited about returning there for our June trip.

it's all making sense now--i had a drink from the tequila bar and then found myself lost in that giant gift shop by TT, too! fortunately i didn't buy anything--but i must have been in there for at least a half hour! ha! note to self--shop BEFORE drinking!
I was excited to see your trip report. I will be traveling with my two girls (7 and 5) by myself to the World in Oct. I am meeting family there, but our aiplane ride and first day will be just the three of us. Great trip so far other than a sick child!
Sounds like you had a relaxing day capped off with a great dinner.
Friends don't let friends drink & shop....LOL! Isn't that the great thing, though, about Disney? You can have the 2nd margarita and still not have to worry about driving back to your hotel!!
