Disney Dream: Questions and Answers (Updated!) - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi,
Is it possible to walk from fore to aft on level 5 - e.g. from cabins to the children's club areas? Yes, except for entry to Vibe, the teen club. The wheelchair/accessible entrance to that is on deck 5, but the main entrance for teens is a stairway that goes from the deck 4 promenade (port side) up to the club on 5. I presume that's for the sake of guests in the deck 5 forward staterooms.
What about if I'm in a deck 5 forward stateroom? Can my teen enter Vibe from the wheelchair/accessible entrance, instead of having to go down a level and then back up?

This is good to know. DD will have her wheelchair aboard the ship. Although, how much she will actually use it, I'm not sure. She will try to do as much on her own as she can before she drags out her chair. LOL
Can you show us a picture of the extra "Murphy bed" that pulls out of the wall in the Deluxe Family Verandah rooms (not the berth that pulls down from the ceiling)? I"m curious about its size.... and whether the mattress is at all substantial? And where on earth is it situated? Thanks!
Wow! Y'all have been busy! However, as somebody who only has one leg at the moment, I was disappointed in the photos of #8500 (the accessible stateroom). There was no concept of how much space there is to maneuver mobility aids such as wheelchairs and scooters, no idea of how the bathroom is laid out to accommodate wheelchairs/scooters, no idea of outlet placement to make it easy to charge the equipment. From the photos, it could have been any room. Is somebody sailing soon who could really give those of us who need accommodations an idea of what to expect? Or, hey, maybe I will. I'm going on the Feb. 13 cruise.

I noticed that in your pictures the hair dryer bag says 220 volt and the plug on the hairdryer definitely looks like a 220. Are the plugs in the room 220 or 110 or are there some of each? In other words, will I need to get a converter?
Thanks,
Melissa

PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.

No converter needed. There are both 110v and 220v outlets in the stateroom.

If nobody else posts pictures before your cruise, will you PLEASE post pics after your cruise. We are booked into #8500 for our November 20 cruise on the Dream.
You've done an absolutely awesome job of documenting the staterooms, restaurants, menus, etc - right down to the electrical outlets in the rooms! Can't thank you enough! Looking forward to further info as it comes out.
What did you think of the verandas? We're first time cruisers and will be travelling with grandchildren ages 10 & 6 at cruise time. I'm sure they'll be safe - but is there any chance kids could climb up those railings? Not that we won't be with them at all times when they're on the veranda... But I'm a bit of a Nervous Nelly - especially since we've never been on anything bigger than a kayak or rowboat before!
Thanks!

Between our MV B2B cruises, my travelmates and I did some catagory shopping (checking out the empty rooms while they were cleaning) which is great fun and it is our own cabin tour.
Since we had booked 7504 on our second leg I wanted to check it out. And while not for me (I prefer more light and less angled front walls. Love the Aft corner cabins), they are great for folks who need more room. I commented that I could have two dance floors (one on either side of the bed) or a family could set up a playpen for their kids. So, a wheel chair or scooter should not have any problem manuvering around. That said, only the corner rooms designated as wheelchair acessable had the lower tables and special needs bathroom/shower. The other corner rooms had the standard split bathroom. There was not extra furniture, closet space or cabinet space either just more open space (like I said dance floors).
The only difference between the forward and aft corner rooms were the port windows (one forward, two aft) or balconies in the Aft. The room layout was the same, only extra space.

The hairdryer is 220 and only works at the desk which is very inconvenient. Also, I had to unplug the Wave phone charge to find that outlet.
We will probably be bringing our own travel hair dryer on our Oct Dream cruise since I tend to either sleep in or watch TV while my wife was drying her hair which was impossible with the loud dryer at the desk. Even commented about that to GS and they said the new design was for safety reasons which I then informed them about all the other new safety issues the new bathroom outlet design created (which made the GS very uncomfortable). Seems they didn't think this one completely thru for US guests and how we use bathrooms differently than other cultures.
Well, thanks for all the info. Is there any pictures of the Cat T rooms and Cat V on the 12th floor??? Do they have murphy beds? On another board I heard that if the sofa bed is our, you can't get out to the verandah without climbing on the bed. Seems silly to me. Any info on these items?

I have loads of pictures of those rooms, but they have yet to be posted. Still, the photos don't really answer your question since the berths weren't opened, but here's a try.
I toured 12510, a Cat. V. It does not have a Murphy Bed. It has a double sofa bed right next to the verandah door and a drop-down berth directly above the sofa, but neither was opened as a bed for the tour. It seems like the sofa bed would interfere with verandah access, but there is some space between the bed and the verandah wall. Since the verandah door is a slider, it should be possible (but maybe not easy) to get onto the verandah when the bed is opened.
I also toured 12512, the Cat T that connects to 12510. I can't see how the sofa bed would interfere with verandah access, as it's a double-width verandah with two verandah doors. That suite does have a Murphy Bed, located about half-way between the stateroom entrance and the verandah.
All that said, the Cat 4s on all the Disney ships have a Murphy Bed right next to the verandah. It, too, interferes with access to the verandah, so there's really nothing new about any of this.

Oh well - ignored! Must be no one has tried it yet (I think I may have seen a bit of it in one of your pix? But not sure.) We're off on our cruise on the 24th! Yahoo!
