Passporter DCL Book that will Include the Dream? (Yes, 2011 Edition!) - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm definitely buying this book for our Dream honeymoon cruise in October.
Since I've never pre-ordered a Passporter book before, how soon ahead of publication does the pre-ordering process start? Just curious of an estimated date so I can remember to do it.

Pre-order lead time varies, but in the case of this title, I plan to put it into pre-order no more than 30 days ahead of when I expect to receive the printed copies.

I'm sorry, but peoples attitudes about this whole thing are really upsetting me and I am sure that Dave and Jen can't be pleased either. Instead of whining and complaining that it's not available yet you should be THANKING Dave and Jen for taking the time/energy to put together the best and most up to date planning guide YEAR after YEAR. Am I anxious to get the guide, of course, but I know that it's worth the wait and that complaining won't get it in my hands any faster.

OK I haven't posted here but wanted to just say, perhaps people are posting due to lack of information not because they want to have a go at Dave & Jen. I like others have pre-ordered and was hoping to get this version before our 90 day mark. If however the 90 day mark isn't reached I want to cancel my order but without any information I can't make this decision. I understand entirely that Dave & Jen are busy and put a lot of work into things but I think its because people genuingly would like some sort of information rather than just being told it will be available at some point. I think people would be less tetchy if some sort of date was put out there and then if it looked like that date wasn't going to be reached then they issue an appology and a new date. This way people wouldn't feel like they were being ignored which is why I think people are getting tetchy. I don't think anyone is having a go at Dave & Jen as we all appreciate their hard work we would just appreciate some timescale that's all so we can sort out logistics.

The problem is, if they put out a date and it isn't met, they will be jumped on for that too (it happened last year, and it was quite surprising to see how angry folks were). I don't blame them for not putting something out - but now they seem to be "damned if you do, damned if you don't".
While I LOVE my DCL Passporters, I am not sure that there would be anything in it that would be so new and astounding that it would impact my 90 day booking window. I will be online this Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, as that is my 90 day mark. Am I sorry I haven't been able to get my hands on the new 2011 PPr? Yes. Do I think I'll end up having less of an enjoyable cruise because of booking without it? No. Will I still buy it to prep & study for my cruise? Yes.

OK, I'm done.
I agree people will complain either way I was just trying to put the other side forward. For me, having never done a 4 night cruise or been on the Dream I was hoping for more info so I could decide on things like whether to book Remy or Palo etc. No it wont destroy my plans not having it but it would be nice to have it and if it isn't going to be out in time then there isn't much point for me in purchasing it as I have last years book so don't really think I need both. For me there is around a $20 additional charge on all passporters for international shipping which is why I don't purchase every year hence I was hoping for a date. I was stuck in a similar situation last year and I agree people did moan about having a date that was missed but I was trying to defend those of us that were asking about dates and explain that I don't think anyone was having a go at Dave & Jen that's all. They do a fab job and of course we don't want them rushing just to get it out but I think most people are understanding enough to get that dates move.

Okay, I hear you... but you're forgetting one vital thing. These travel guides are a business. And if Dave & Jennifer Marx want to stay in business than they better keep their customers informed ofwhen their product will be delivered. If you promise a product and you can't deliver what you promise when you say you will, then that's a problem and maybe folks should re-evaluate why they are in this business in the first place. The travel business has a plethora of products on the market and people will eventually get fed up with waiting and waiting on something that may never come to fruition and move on to someone else's business. The last time Jennifer Marx made a post regarding the timetable of this 2011 DCL guidebook was back on 02/08/11. While clearly they have other things to worry with, a little update now and then would go a long way with their current loyal customers.
Nobody said that we don't appreciate all that the Marx family does for this fabulous publication (or else we wouldn't wait as long as we have!), just saying that this is a business and if they don't want to lose their loyal customer base, then maybe they should update us more often and maybe give an explanation of the delay in turning this guidebook out....
