Cleaning, purging and feeling overwhelmed!!!!! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Patty ~ I Do The MS Walk Everyday
Married to the Love of My Life
Raising 3 Sons who are the Lights of my Life ~ actually @ 23, I'm trying to gently shove my oldest out the door!
Well, even with going water walking and going to pick up Mom's laundry and helping her with some paperwork and hitting the store for eggs, I still managed one more BIG box last night (even though I didn't get home til around 7:45 - I'm off work at 4:15!!!!). It is FULL (to bulging) with different yarns and knitting/crocheting supplies as well as several partially finished projects. The two boxes of books to go bye-bye are in the truck. I am thinking about heading to Title Wave (used book store) to see if they want any of them at lunch time. If I don't go today, I may not be able to make it til Friday or Saturday and I really don't want to carry this stuff around til then. I just have to get it out of the house AND out of my truck!!!! But of course if I do that, it means that I don't get to actually chill out at lunch and the 30-40 minutes I manage to carve out of my hour lunch is just about the only time I get to actually relax!! Man, I need a vacation......
DH says that he can see where I am making a little bit of headway, so I guess it is worth it.....but it is still going to be a long road.

Good luck! I've got an odd little room on the second floor of my house. It's a tiny room with no heater, little insulation (our house is over 100 years old), teeny little window and some odd wall angles. The only purpose it serves is that it leads to the attic. We started by putting one of our dressers in there and then another storage unit from the bathroom. Then there was a clothes rack. Baby clothes. My skinny clothes. Christmas decorations. More baby clothes. Old storage units from my daughter's room. Winter clothes, summer clothes...Now there's no way to walk in the room to get to the stairs and I have no "gumption" to sort it out. Keep us posted with your progress because it might motivate me!

That's funny, because we have a room like that too! Actually, it is our fourth bedroom, but it is too small to be anything but maybe a guest room, so we have a nice daybed in there for the niece or nephew when they come out from Anchorage. The room is right across the hallway from our laundry closet, so we pull the clean clothes out of the dryer, walk into the guest/laundry room and toss the clothes on the bed. Sometimes the pile of clean clothes sits there until most of it has been picked out and worn!! Who needs dressers? It seems like every single time that my DDs clean out their rooms, all the extra junk that they don't want ends up shoved into that room. It got so you couldn't hardly walk through from all the extra boxes, blankets, stuffed animals, outgrown clothes, etc!
We had a scare last year when we thought that my DMIL was going to have to move in with us (dodged that bullet, thank goodness!), and I dug the whole room out until it was empty, painted, put up crown moulding, and prettied it up. Now it's very pretty, with lots of clothes on the bed! I've had to dig it out a couple times, as apparently there is a bizarre magnetic pull to that room that attracts all the junk in the house! I'll keep fighting the battle........

Good luck with your room!
This room is pretty small too. I initally used it as an office before (and for a while after) I got married. Now it hold books, craft stuff, lots of books, more craft stuff, boxes of stuff that have been "cleaned out" of other rooms in the house, oh, and did I mention all the books? The room is, as I said, kinda small and not really good for anything and if it's an office, it means that when DH wants to play his computer games we are in differnt rooms and I don't like that. Makes me (and he) feel like we don't want to be together. Basically it's only good for storage.
My DS apparently feels the same about dressers as you guys (and I and DH are almost as bad)! Plus we have WAY too many clothes. I've managed to get them all hung up and put away and now I'm trying to weed out some of them. NEED TO DOWNSIZE!!!! Oh, and speaking of DS and books.....he just snagged three books out of the box to go to the library that he HAS TO READ......Now I'm really glad he wants to read, but this is counterproductive!!!! Made him take the books in and put them on the shelves in his room!
I am starting to sock away about $20-30 a paycheck to pay for new carpet and paint for the living room once we get the walls ripped down. I'm a little worried about what do actually do on the walls. I really don't want to have to re-paper, but I may have to. I put up a textured paintable wall covering in the current living room and it's not on the walls in the extra room so once the room is torn down, there will be two walls in the living room that don't match. Not sure if I can find this wall covering still. Guess I will have to start looking now. Or start figuring out what I am going to do instead.

Good luck!
I bet the signs of progress are inspiring.
I need to do the same thing in our spare bedrooms. Not that we have any great plans for the space, other than we could have company.
Sounds like fun.
I did our attice a couple months ago because that's where I hide the Christmas presents and I couldn't even walk up there. There was stuff left up there from the previous owners (We've lived there for 4 years) that we never got rid of.
I LOVE doing stuff like that, once I start a project I won't stop that's why I did it on a weekend while my DH was working, plus I could get rid of some of his junk I would love to be one of those "professional licensed organizers" like on Hoarders! Great, but sometimes sad show.
Didn't get a lot done last night. Managed to get over to Title Wave and drop off books. They didn't want the hard backs, so I'm going to give those to the library in the little town where my dad lives. They did take a good number of the paperbacks. Gave me around $35 worth or credit so that's good. Didn't have time to get over to pick up what they didn't want so they donated those to somewhere.
Boxed up another box of books to head to storage. And managed to clean up/throw away junk from two other partially filled boxes and sort out a few more books into keeper and donate piles.
Tonight is going to be hard to get a lot done. Going waterwalking right after work, then home to pick up DS for Boy Scout meeting. While he is there, hope to go over to storage unit to drop off three boxes of books in my car and pick up some of the Christmas storage boxes so that I can get all that down and put away. While I'm there, I need to pick up DH's dart board so that my Dad can use it in his basement instead of it gathering dust in storage and hopefully re-organize a little at the unit before going back to pick up DS at scouts.
Somewhere in there, I hope to eat something so I don't fall over from hunger! So may not get a lot out of the room tonight, but I will still be doing stuff that will help with the progress of the project!

Okay - posting here is kind of helping to keep me on track and accountable! I didn't get anything done in the actual room last night.
Got off work at 4:05, dropped off books (out of the black hole) at the storage unit and picked up Christmas ornament boxes, went water walking, picked up son and his buddy, took them to scouts, got info for tour permit (DS has a camping trip tonight and tomorrow), picked up prescription for a friend of mine, dropped that off and FINALLY got to go home at around 8:15!! Luckily, DS's buddy's mom offered to pick boys up from scouts so I didn't have to go back for that. Managed to get about half the tree undecorated. Planning on getting more done tonight so that I have more room to work with when sorting stuff out. I may have to help drive the boys to their camping trip if some other parents don't step up. Which means I will probably have to go back tomorrow and pick up too. Kinda throws a monkey wrench in my plans, but hey, a Mom's gotta do what a Mom's gotta do! Right???
Thanks for listening and being my conscience and motivators!

You're getting something done, you should be feeling a sense of accomplishment! I know how the running of kids all over is and sounds like you're doing a pretty darn good job. It's tough, I would totally help you if you weren't 3700 miles away

Thanks for the offer but that would be a little far to commute ....luckily, a couple of DS's buddies' moms are great about helping out. What sucks is DH's schedule sometimes makes it difficult for him to help. He is often getting off work right when we have to be some where to drop off or pick up. For instance, pick up tomorrow after the camping trip is probably about 4:00 and is a 30 minute or so drive away. DH gets off work at 4:00. So it will again fall to me to pick up. Now, I might have him do the drop off tonight. They don't meet til 8:00 at the church so if he is feeling up to it I will talk him into driving out tonight. (if you are following other thread....DS managed to crack/bruise Dad's ribs so he is moving slow ).
