As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I don't get to see parades unless I'm solo and I do stand for the parades.
I also try to get Front row but I'll be standing the whole time including before the parade so anyone behind me would know I'll be standing. I get sore and can't sit on the curb for long.
If kids are behind me, I do let them in front of me so they can see.

I have to say, in the same situation, I think I would've asked the family in front if it was okay if our kids moved to the rope so they could see. Generally, I've found people willing to allow this.
However, they staked out the front row spot so they'd get the best view -- and that generally can be had when standing. (You get an odd angle of the floats when seated.) If they refused to sit down, I would've just dealt with it and tried to get whatever view I could.
I never thought about it before, but it might be a good idea to ask (when choosing a spot to wait for the parade) if the people in front of you will be standing once the parade starts....
People at the rope probably got that spot early and it makes no sense to stand until the parade starts. That is usually what I do - get there early, sit while eating a snack and stand just before the parade. And I agree, photo's from the sitting position would come out skewed.
I am very considerate of those around me even late comers. I let them know that I'll be standing when the parade starts.

I am also one of those people that gets my spot before the parade starts in the front and watch the parade standing up. When I was at MNSSHP with friends, we found a great spot right at the rope in Frontier Land. While the 3 children who were with us never stood up, the 3 other adults and myself never sat down even while we waited 45 minutes for the parade to start. Once the parade started, people who had squeezed in behind us (adults) but in front of people sitting on a wall behind us got very upset because we would not sit. They actually got quite rude with us asking us multiple times to sit down so that they could see. We had never planned on sitting, and had secured our spot when the area was still pretty clear so that we could watch the parade without having to constantly look up to see what was going on. These people squeezed in minutes before the parade started and expected to have a perfect view. Since we had secured our spot well before the area got crowded I felt we had every right to view the parade however we wanted.

We have always waited early to get a spot up front - the kids sit on the curb and hubby and I stand behind them...I never sit down and when the parade starts the kids stand up too - if there are small kids behind me I will let them in front or try to squeeze over a bit to let them in.
Next time you need to contact a Cast Member to see what the rules are for standing along the parade route. I have watched parades on both coasts. I remain seated when ever possible. I am the person who lets kids sit in front of me. I have moved my mother over a bit to squeeze another wheelchair onto the route viewing area. In Hyperion Theater at DCA we have moved to make room for shorter persons in wheelchairs.
Part of DLR and WDW magic is how most guests go out of their way to help other guests. I have seen people let kids stand in front of them and make room for wheelchairs. I have seen guests help a person load a stroller onto a tram or train. It is part of the Disney magic to take into consideration other guests. I am so sorry you did not get a good parade view. If you were near me then you would have gotten a view behind me or sitting in front of me. Remember that for each bad time in the park there are many good moments and acts of kindness.

Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.

Oh so very, very true. A few of DGF's fondest memories from our '09 trip were giving trading Pins to children; once, we struck up a conversation with the family waiting next to us for dinner, and learned that it was their little girl's birthday (5th or 6th, IIRC), so DGF gave her two pins, right on the spot. Another time, DGF had dropped something, and didn't notice; a young girl - maybe 8 or 9? - picked it up for her. DGF rewqarded her (and her younger sister, so there'd be no envy or jealousy) with a pin apiece.
And most people in the parks are either that nice themselves, or at least, reasonably neutral in terms of niceness; they may not go out of their way to help, but they do go out of their way not to be a problem.
It's the tiny minority who're stinkers, and who I wish would just ... go away, find somewhere else to be stinkers at.
totally rude!!! when we go (reg parade, not MVMCP or MNSSHP), we stake out a spot on the curb like 30 min ahead of time and we sit the entire time so the people can see behind us. If you're in the front there is no need to stand up, especially when there are children behind you.
