Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Steve\'s Silly Question of the Day 10/17/02

My godparents daughter married Dan Rather's nephew...he was at the wedding & reception.

At one of the buildings I managed Emeril Lagasse came in for a meeting and, since I knew about it ahead of time, I was able to meet him briefly and have him sign a few cookbooks.

Re: Steve\'s Silly Question of the Day 10/17/02

Let's see...
Gloria Estefan, who is truly a nice person. She took us up into her offices even (we were nearby), and talked with us for a half hour or so.
John Landis (director of the Blues Brothers for one), who I escorted around campus at UofMiami while a film student there. No comment on him.
Ernie Banks (Mr. Cub) was making an appearance at a store friends of our family owned, so I got to chat it up with him. He is way cool!
Mikhail Baryshnikov was outside the hotel across the street from Columbia College while I was going to school there. One of my fellow classmates was working as the doorman at the hotel, so he got him over to introduce me. I always knew he was short, but my goodness - he's even shorter than I imagined!
Cheap Trick (all four of them), at a backstage party for like 10 people after one of their shows. Tom Petterson was definitely the only friendly one.
Cyndi Lauper, who is so cool. She and I chatted it up quite a bit, as she was fascinated we shared not only our first names, but our middle names too. She talked about her husband and kid, and you could tell she just loves her family.
Eldridge Cleaver, a former Black Panther. He came to speak at our residential college (dorm) at Miami. He was so soft spoken, unlike his days with the Panthers. He is a great speaker, and we enjoyed our time chatting with him. A very knowledgable man.

My mom is retired from Baker Furniture. She worked at the showroom in Chicago. While working there, several famous types came in to shop, including Oprah Winfrey, Ethel Kennedy, etc. In fact, Chris Kennedy was (maybe still is even) the manager of the Merchandise Mart, so she saw him on a regular basis. We used to love asking her who came in during the day when she got home from work.

Re: Steve\'s Silly Question of the Day 10/17/02

I met severalDenver Broncos when I worked at the water park. The Broncos' Quarter Back club would rent the park and the Broncos would come and play. Several of the offensive line players were riding a ride called the Screamin Mimi - a cart that goes down a track and skims across the water, The players were having a contest to see who could go the furthest when one of them asked me how to go really far. I told him you had to have a small person in front of a larger person on the sled. For the next two hours I rode the Screamin Mimi over and over again.

The next year we found out one of the players couldn't swim and I had to go in the wave pool after him.

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">I agree. Years ago we used to have celebrities come to our hospital for major events, soap opera stars, etc. Ray Stevens happened to be the headliner for the opening of our Womens Pavilion about 12 years ago and he was such a prima donna!

In college I worked for the Programs department, working concerts and got to shake Lionel Ritchie's hand. My family and I met the stars of High Chapparel (60's western) while visiting the set, and the actor who played Chief Brody from Jaws (can't remember his name), again while visiting the set.

DH has a picture of himself with Paul Newman at the racetrack and my SIL is related to Jim Nabors so he occasionally comes to their family reunions. Former Gov Guy Hunt of AL was a friend of my grandfather's and spoke at his funeral.

Not too many Americans will know who this is, but my kids and I talked to Ernie Coombs (Mr. Dressup). He's a children's television icon in Canada

When I was in Jr. High, I was a member of my school band. When Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau came to my small town he walked past us and smiled and gave us all a collective "hello". That was on the same trip that he "waved" hello to the farmers in Alberta - except he only used one finger

Does Mickey Mouse count?

In addition to the famous characters at WDW, I've met Sam Johnson, US Congressman from Texas, Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton, (they attended our church when they visited Dallas), Loni Anderson, Burt Reynolds, and all the cast of Evening Shade. My nephew was engaged to the producer's daughter at the time. I have played under the musical direction of Henry Mancini.

DW has met the King of Sweeden. He came to Richardson when she worked for Ericcson.

Re: Steve\'s Silly Question of the Day 10/17/02

I shook hands with President Jimmy Carter when I was in 1st grade.

DH met Daisy Fuentes at a store promotion.

My boss and I ran into ex Chicago Bull, Norman Van Leer, when we were hailing a cab. He got out and my boss goes "It's Bill Cosby." It wasn't until about a month later that I realized who he was.

Re: Steve\'s Silly Question of the Day 10/17/02

I can never remember the famous people I've met afterwards! So, lets see..I have met the past two California first ladies...Gayle Wilson and Mrs. Davis. I used to work at the Historic Governor's Mansion as a tour guide and at the State Capitol, so I met several politicians that way.

Ummm...I babysat for Mark Wilson's kids. He was a quarterback for the 49ers back in the early 80s.

Met Sarah Ferguson, too! She was totally approachable and sweet! Also met Ray Bradbury, oh yeah and Ben Bostrom who is this completely adorable motorcycle racer who races on a Ducati.

That's about all I can think of right now.

In a previous life I was in the hotel business and got to meet quite a few folks. The most famous were, then Vice President George Bush and Gene Hackman. I also met members of the bands Ratt and The Outfield. More recently I've met Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen in the Austin airport.

Let's see, I've met Josh and Reva from Guiding Light, Bart Connor (olympic gymnast), Ron Francis, Rod Brindamour and Jeff O'Neill (all Carolina Hurricane Players). I also happened to meet John Travolta while he was filming in Wilmington. What a sweetie he was. And oh yeah, while Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon were in Durham filming "Bull Durham" I had a friend of mine who was in the movie as the baseball umpire...he introduced me and a friend of mine to them. I was NOT impressed with Kevin.

Re: Steve\'s Silly Question of the Day 10/17/02

Oh, I forgot. While going to UM, I worked in the residential college I lived in, and we had several football players living with us who I got to know well (and the majority of them are nice guys...not all, but the majority ). Let's see, who would you guys know that are now in the NFL? Ummmmmm...Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens, no comment on him), Kerlin Blaise (Detroit Lions, and really one of the nicest people I met while at Miami), Kenard Lang (Cleveland Browns, another nice guy), and several others. And no, we didn't treat them any different than the other residents.

Re: Steve\'s Silly Question of the Day 10/17/02

Fun question Steve

Besides the real stars Tigger, Pooh & Mickey , I've met...

Clive Barker - my favorite author, for some reason when he asked how to spell my name for the book he was signing, I got stuck after J E A Very cool and very cute

Motley Crue - my favorite band for far too many years (I'm getting O L D), met them several times and have managed to embarass myself in some way each time (from standing there and simply staring to dropping the cd I was asking them to sign) - why am I a retard around celebrities? Fortunately, I found them to be really nice and very cool - it would s@#k if they weren't.

Rick Springfield - my preteen lust This guy is a real sweetheart. At a cd signing a few years ago, he gave me the biggest hug and I felt like I was 12 all over again

Gene Simmons from Kiss - when I was in college, I met him at a recording studio a friend was working at, I asked him for an autograph and he asked me to show him my umm...well this is a family board here, but you can figure it out. I told him to #$%& off. Pig

Wow! You guys have all met some cool people!

I'm trying to think of famous people that I've met.

Oh, yeah--there were these 2 authors that I met once (or thrice...I forgot)--Jennifer and Dave!!!

Since I don't live near or on Capitol Hill (thank Goddess!), I haven't rubbed elbows with as many senators/politicos as my more politically-minded friends have. I have been passed by Dubya and his dumb motorcade, like, 8 billion times (usually while I'm walking (er, running) to work and I don't have the time to be patient and wait at the intersection while the whole entourage goes by).

I've met a lot of wonderful WNBA players (Chamique Holdsclaw, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie) and a few WNBA sportscasters (Vera Jones, Anne Meyers, Nancy Leiberman), but I guess that probably ain't that impressive to you all.

I did meet Julia Roberts while she was in Baltimore--she is actually shorter in real life than I imagined her to be. She (and Richard Gere) were in town for the filming of Runaway Bride and they wanted a personal trainer to train them, and they got in touch w/my friend, who would train them after my aero classes.

Great topic!
