As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

When my kids were small,they dressed up in daycare and had parties there. We also took them around the neighborhood to just a few houses (mainly those we were closest too).

We used to get a couple families that would come by our house before Halloween with non-candy treats to give out to their child when they came by. They'd choose a few houses to visit and pre-deliver to them, so the child would get the experience on Halloween night and they'd be sure to get non-candy items when they visited. You could try that.
Surprisingly I've contacted a couple local malls and they are not doing the trick or treating. I wanted to bring her to the zoo but DH doesn't want to and I guess I see his point. She is so young i'm not sure how much she'd even get it at this age.
I am still trying to find out if anyplace local in my town or surrounding towns does anything though. Thank you all for the great ideas!
I don 't think your DD is too young for the zoo at all. My kids all went as infants and no one will ever let my my older son forget his statement that "the gorwilla pit on the window" at the National Zoo when he was about your DD's age.
Do you have a downtown area? I also brought my sons to nursing home with our mother's group when they were very young. The residents' faces would light up with joy when they saw the costumed toddlers and preschoolers.
We bring our kids to my in-law's. My mother-in-law makes us dinner and we divide and conquer.
I stick with Jack and hit as many houses in the neighborhood as we can, and dh sticks with Anna for as long as she's game. Last year she was good for the entire night. The year before--when she was about Mary's age, she did a couple of houses.
We place the candy buckets up high so the kids can't reach them and then they forget all about them and don't notice that they disappear. Well...Jack remembers his bucket for about a week and then he forgets it. He doesn't get much of his candy because he's allowed a piece a day.
If you go to the Roger Williams Zoo, let me know. That's the zoo we go to most often. I was wondering myself if they did something.

Our local Children's Museum offers free admission to kids in costumes Saturday and Sunday- you might look for something like that. You will find some houses give out alternate snacks to toddlers (like animal crackers or fruit snacks). But that would be random, it will be hard to avoid people offering her candy where ever you go- but you certainly don't have to accept it or if you do- just don't give it to her..... Have fun!
We did end up finding a local mall who did trick or treating from 3pm to 5pm yesterday so we took Mary there. I liked the idea since it's indoors which is warmer and no chance of her running into traffic!
She didn't totally get it but was so darn cute. The people who would hand her a piece, she would take the piece.. put it in her pumpkin bucket, then put her hand out for more. She got a few girls to fall for it and kept giving her more, LOL
Then at the places where they just hold out the bucket for you to take some, she would end up taking the candy from her bucket and putting it into their bucket, LOL
We didn't last a full hour but she got to run around and use up some energy and stay warm so all in all it was fun.
We got home in plenty of time for trick or treaters but sadly only had about 8 or 9 this year.
