Week After Thanksgiving...Who's Going? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Also, I am not sure about the posting regs for this. But I have a rose and crown adr for thurs 12/2 at 750pm (illuminations time) that I will be cancelling. I can certainly coordinate a time to cancel if someone is interested. Its for 6 people.
We will also be there during this time and have gone this same time other years with no problems about crowding.
I did read on another board that several folks were having trouble booking online during this time too. But when they called they were able to book it over the phone. I guess the online bookings were showing nothing while there was actually still availability. Maybe it's worth a try to call.

I wanna know what it is too. All I could find out is that it's scheduled dec.2-5
That might account for at least part of the difficulty in getting a room during that time period. Plus free dining was extended to cover much of that time. We have QS so we won't be worrying about ADRs, thank goodness.
I would definitely call, or try through a Disney travel specialist (we use The Magic for Less but there are other good agencies too). Try pushing your dates around, as one year I was able to get a room after I shortened my stay by two days, and took a room off-site to finish up the week.
We have stayed at the Radisson-Celebration, which is very close to WDW, and enjoyed it, so that might be a possibility if you cannot get an onsite room. They have great pools, restaurants, bar, Disney tickets in the lobby, and a shuttle to area parks. Visit Mousesavers.com to see if they have a discount link; we have used it to get the room for under the cost of a Disney value resort, even with the resort fee! Sometimes there are great specials on DTD hotels too. Good luck!
tried the travel agent thing...in fact no one but TWO of them. i will take your advice and call them myself, but i am not holding out any kind of hope. and yeah...it is gonna be freakin crowded. i also hear the parade is being taped on the 4th (any confirmation of this?) i actually am totally rethinking the dates and will probably go a different time in december when it is less crowded. i have never had this kind of problem getting a room at a reasonable rate. i see some suites and higher-end concierge rooms, but i am not spending 2000 bucks for 3 nights.
am hoping people start to cancel soon .....
Maybe they only open so many rooms during certain times of the year I just can't imagine that this week is going to be THAT crazy busy This is my Disney Optimism speaking...we were there on Memorial Day and I thought it was pretty busy. I was really hoping for shorter waits! Here's hoping for lower crowds
We were supposed to be there starting the day after Thanksgiving, but we moved it to January to coincide with another trip we're taking. However, we were there last year at that time and it was GREAT! Very low crowds...a little busier on weekend days but still very managable. It was teriffic to see all the Christmas decorations. Weather was cool but we still managed to swim a little anyway. Restaurants were the most crowed thing, though I suspect that was because there was a free dining promo going on. They were always full but we had made our ADRs as soon as we could and never waited long for a table. 50's PTC was the longest wait 20-30 minutes but we were early. Otherwise wait times were only a few (less than 10) minutes!
Have a great time!
We arrive on Thanksgiving Day and stay until Dec 4th. We are doing a split stay at ASMO for three nights and then move to Wilderness Lodge for 6 nights when the 40% discount starts. We did not have any trouble getting all the ADR's we wanted, including LeCellier Candlelight package for Fri, Dec 3rd. Sorry others are having trouble.
Hope crowds are great for all of you that are going that week. We were undecided about planning for the week before Thanksgiving or the week after. DGS will be celebrating 9th birthday Nov 21st and DGD will be celebrating her 4th birthday Dec 1st. We decided to go ahead for his birthday this year and do hers next trip. The weekend before Thanksgiving scares me a little but I have friends that went that same time and said you will be fine as long as you leave by the Wednesday before. Pop Warner concerns me also but we will also be returning during that time frame next trip. I have head that it affects the resorts especially Port Orleans but the parks are not affected that much by their presence. So maybe that is why the crowd calendar is still low and the resorts are full. Any way I hope you all have a great time at WDW!!!
Thanks for the link for mousetacular.
We decided to drive in for the evening before (11/27) I am going to try to get something at the hilton in DTD or somehting like that.
I tried to get an adr for that night and the next morning (11/28) and there was so many more openings that weekend then the week after??? I got a kouzzina bf for 11/28 and there was so much open on 11/27 at night???? so I guess those 2 days will be a little better? Maybe there is alot of travel those days?
According to the Pop Warner website, their championships begin 12/4-12/11.
