New Survey Questions Suggest New Possible Ticket Options Are In The Works! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

All-Inclusive Disney Resort (Walt Disney World) – Unlimited food and non-alcoholic beverages, resort recreation (boat rentals, parasailing, etc.), amenities (Internet access, gym, etc.) ($40 – $80 per person, per night. Does not include room rate.);
Kind of like having an unlimited dining plan - but I bet you, it'd only be good for meals AT YOUR RESORT. Meals in the parks, or at other resorts, would probably still cost $$ (or dining plan credits).
I like this idea if it was for ALL resort restaurants and YOUR resort recreation. At $80 per person it's like the deluxe dining plan and I could totally get with that!!

I don't see how they could pull these two off. More wristbands and checking everyone all the time?
Show your ticket to the CM as you board. AM, PM, and All-Day passes will probably be in three different colors. Quick and simple to say to someone "I'm sorry, miss, but that a half-day ticket expired an hour ago, I can't let you on this ride".
The question becomes, does Disney want to risk the sortof confrontations that will bring (and the claims of "But I got in line while my ticket was still good!!") ...?

I like the idea of this one. I assume the $150 is per week and not per day?
Think about the effect it would have, though.
As it stands, other than major celebrities ... once you're in the park, every guest is the same as another. Noone has especial privileges (aside form compensating for disabilities); everyone has the same (theoretical) chance at the same (limited) pool of fastpasses for the rides, or, waits in the same lines as everyone else.
By selling a VIP "Unlimited Fastpass" ticket option, suddenly there will be two "classes" of guests. One class could just use the FastPass lines, and could (as far as what we've seen indicates) use the same FP line for the same ride, over and over and over.
While those who couldn't afford the VIP tickets, wait in line - and get bypassed by those same people, over and over and over.

I hear what you are saying, but at the same time it would be a great benefit for my family. We don't use Fastpass that often because we either forget, or the return time is not convienent for us returning to that area. With this, we wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.
Also, if they did offer the FP as a $$ option, would they do away with the free one?

I think the idea is that you would still need a FP but you don't have to wait the normal 2 hours in between getting the first one and getting the next one. If this is the case even if you could still get a FP as a free benefit to buying a park ticket the FP's will run out much quicker as one person could go and use his card to obtain 10 FP or more(think about TSMWM if you could get unlimited FP would you get one or 10 so you could ride all day). Note the line at the end about while they are available or however its worded.
Personally I hate the idea of paying for unlimited FP's.
On a side note you can go back at any time after your FP seasons. So if your FP is good from 1-2pm but you are having lunch you can go back at 4pm and still use the FP. You just can't go before the alloted time

You don't have to use you FP at the exact return time. You can use it anytime AFTER the return time.
I hate the FP option. Its just not fair for everyone. I pay enough to go to WDW and I don't think i should pay more to use unlimited FPs.

Don't like the propsed fastpass deal!!!!! As one poster said, this starts to create "classes" of guests. I think they did this somewhat when they changed the Castaway Club levels (didn't like that) The rest of it you can have. How are they going to enforce parital day, no ride type tickets? Wristbands? You can always get those off.
I actually like the no ride idea... When I went when I was pregnant I didnt ride many rides because it was a hard pregnancy but would still love to go and watch the kids ride the rides. I wouldnt mind getting one of those. But it seems confusing when you try to book you Disney packages. That is alot of preplanning on deciding what you want to do exactly when. I love planning my Disney trips but I also like to book them way in advance so I have the time to pay for them.

Can you spell "class war"? This has been coming since US instituted their pay for front of the line policy. Disney is just trying to figure out how to install it without looking greedy; this would be a huge PR hit

I agree 100%. My husband loves the fact that when you go to Disney,in his words, "you are not a banker, lawyer letter carrier, you are a dad bringing your kids to the happiest place on earth". We have gone every year at least once at most 3x with the exception of one since we first stepped foot on property. I know DH would scale us back to once every 5 years at best if they implement a pay for FP option. The FP is what sold him on Disney to begin with!
I don't mind the other options. I don't know if I would tale advantage of any of them but the aren't offensive. I will agree it looks like it would be difficult to plan a package trip with some of the different ticket options but I am sure they would figure out a way to separate each guest so you could purchase the appropriate ticket for each person.
10 years or so ago, there was a Six Flags park near me in Ohio that if I recall experimented with something like the fastpass system, but only if you forked over extra money for it. It had the same arguments against it that are being voiced in this thread, and if I recall that system went away.

How are they going to enforce parital day, no ride type tickets? Wristbands? You can always get those off.
One option would be to issue a pass for the day - with the date, the day of the week, a Disney character (which changes daily) ... and a colored stripe. Green for "Morning" tickets (good from Park Opening to 3pm), Yellow for "Evening" tickets (good from 3pm to Park Closing), and a light shade of violet/purple for the standard "All Day" tickets. Like these:
And you'd have to show the pass as you went to board a ride, or enter an attraction (the ones with lines, at least). If you don't have the right colored stripe (Green or Purple in the mornings, Yellow or Purple in the evenings) ... you're politely informed that you cannot ride / enter.
The character displayed changes from day to day, with no advanced notice to the general public. Combined wit the day, date, and color ... it'd be unmistakable if they were legit or not. IMO, at least.
...
I just question whether or not Disney really wants to do this, due to the HASSLE - and the inevitable complaints of "but I've been waiting in line since BEFORE this pass expired!".
Oh, I really HOPE not! That would ruin the extraordinary FAIRNESS of the fastpass system.
Well, the way it is now - the FastPass system is most certainly anything BUT fair.
It ONLY benefits those with someone who can act as a "runner" in the group - a healthy, youthful individual who is willing to criss-cross the park quickly in the quest to gather as many of them as possible.
My husband and I along with our 8yr old grandson did pick up a couple here and there - but neither of us were capable of continually and regularly venturing forth on the long journeys to collect more than that. As a result, much (MUCH!) of our precious vacation was spent standing in long lines watching Fastpass holders by the hundreds (mainly young adults and teens) pass us by to quickly experience one after another ride.
The current FastPass system in DL also has a serious flaw in that they don't uphold the expiration time. In other words - this gives people the ability to collect many all throughout the day only to use them all at once in the evening (when the ride lines SHOULD have been shorter).
We honestly saw several people with stacks (STACKS of 1/4"+!!!) of the FastPasses that they had collected and were then in the process of using.
One specific example: At the end of one evening, we got into line for Indiana Jones when the wait time said 25 minutes. About 20 minutes into the wait (and not having gotten all that far in the queue) there was the announcement that "Due to the quantities of returning FastPass users, the wait time had been extended to 45 minutes!" Thus when we finally got to ride, we disembarked well after the main part of the park had closed and we had no more time for anything else...
It was most aggrevating - especially after watching the same group of teens pass us at least TWICE in the FP line!
Our opinion is that the FP system definitely puts us, the out-of-town, grandparent vacationer, at the disadvantage - being unable to manipulate the system as so many seemed to be doing.
I know that USFL has a system where they only allow "front of the line" privileges to guests staying on their properties OR to those willing to pay a bit extra on top of their admission tickets.
If Disney followed suit - eliminating the issuing machines altogether - without so many people using the Fastpass system, the ride lines themselves will shorten as well as move more quickly.
Another option could be to simply just issue a set number of Fastpasses along with everyone's admission ticket per day... Say, 6 per day...? That way each person would have the same quantity (without the marathon park sprint) - and be able to use them on whichever ride they chose... OR even give them to another family member, etc.
I'm just tossing random ideas out - but I do know that the current system is definitely unfair to those with limited mobility (who aren't necessarily "disabled" but certainly can't travel back and forth across the park as quickly).

Yeah I don't like the paying for FP option. I think it works well enough as it is now. The problem with having FP on a paid or allottment system is where would it end. Eventually wouldn't the FP lines get just as long as the regular lines? FP does have its flaws, but adding a payment system will just defeat it completely over time.
The VIP resort options? They already have those. Check out the Premium and Platinum Plans listed with the dining options. I went on the Platinum Plan once a few years ago. It was great! My only OOP expenses while there were souvenirs and tips.
I like the reduced ticket options, but like others I wonder how they could be adequately enforced.
