The We are finally a fully potty trained family trip!! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This could become The thank goodness I only had viral meningitis and not bacterial meningitis trip!
Scary!! DS woke up Monday with a headache. We had dental appointments for the kids and then we were headed to Mishawaka, IN to visit the closest Disney Store - yes in another state
Anywho - he said his head hurt so I gave him Advil, then he got sick - no dentist for him. Took DD to dentist and came home, DH said DS had been playing and seemed okay. Packed up and headed out on our road trip - got gas and DS said he felt sick. Come back home and he is sick again, goes to sleep and wakes up as soon as I try to put him down. Decided I should take him to the local Emergency Dept and see if they can give him something for the pain. They ask several times if he has a head injury - I say no several times and then remember that DD brought him downstairs the night before and said he hit his head on the wall {I had heard a loud thump but no crying} he seemed fine but I relayed this the ED staff and they decide to do a CT Scan. He was, in the mean time given Tylenol for pain but got sick. CT Scan was all clear, he is still getting sick and holding his head crying that it "hurts so bad, mama" Doc is concerned and asks permission to do a Lumbar Puncture I give the okay as I just want my baby to feel better and the doc seems really concerned at this point. They give him Versed and he gets sick. I leave my poor baby while the do it {to try to call DH - no answer } Doc says that DS kept saying he couldn't get comfortable while they were doing the LP and apparently that is disconcerting to him as well. I notice that DS is very warm and they take his temp - 103.8 - it was normal when we arrived
LP has to be done twice as two different lab people have to do the count and their numbers didn't match so we wait some more. Then they give him Zofran {one of my best friends when I was pregnant with DS} and some Advil. Finally, that begins to help the fever and pain. Doc comes in and says that there is no bacteria in the spinal fluid, however there is a very large number of white blood cells which indicates an infection. He needs to be hospitalized for bacterial meningitis as a precaution. Doc is convinced DS has it just isn't sure if it is viral or bacterial. I call DH again and finally get him and tell him to come to hospital and call my step-dad to get DD so we can be with DS. After that, Doc comes back in and says he would prefer that we send DS to the Children's Hospital as they are better able to handle someone as sick as DS. I forget to tell DH when he arrives and he is wondering why they are talking about an ambulance and starting an IV before he goes. Oops!
They are determined to start antibiotics before DS goes to DeVos Children's Hospital and proceed to have to poke him at least six times to get an IV started. Poor kid. DH & I decide that I will follow ambulance to Grand Rapids and he will go get DD and go home. DS is having NONE of that and asks daddy to ride with him. It was awful. DH rides in ambulance with DS and I drive - DD gets to spend the night with Grandma & Grandpa
Get to children's hospital and they are fabulous!! DS is feeling better - no headache and no fever yay! They do some crazy named test in the middle of the night and it comes back positive - DS has viral meningitis - Thanks be to God.
About 4am DS is itching like crazy - you would have thought his head was on fire. Call the nurse - of course, he is having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. His face was so swollen, I felt so badly for him. They give him Benadryl and he goes to sleep.
Next morning a large group of medical students come by and the Resident that has been caring for DS and his superior tell them all about DS and then ask us when we want to take him home
A few hours later, we are all happily driving home. What a crazy, scary time. DS is not a happy Mini-Mouseketeer as he still hasn't been to the Disney Store.
Sorry - didn't plan for this to be so long and full of smilies.
Needless to say, if we didn't have a trip planned to WDW - we surely would have booked one after that~
He is back to his old self for sure. He has been a bit naughty lately - not sure what happened there. Perhaps it is just the "I am 3 1/2 and I think I can do whatever I please, because I am just so darn cute" kind of thing
Lexxie cannot wait to take Nicky on a pirate cruise - she is sad that he isn't big enough yet. I told her when we go in May, they can do one. I think it will be so cute, however I am going to be honest - I am not thrilled about sending my 'baby' off on a boat with strangers. Yes, I know that I have already let my other 'baby' do just that but she is older and somehow she just doesn't seem as 'fragile' {for lack of a better word} as he does. I think it has to do not only with him being my last baby but he has been through so much. As I am sure some of you know - it is absolute torture to watch your baby going through tests and treatments that cause them fear and pain.
Anywho on to other subjects that aren't depressing or well maybe they are to some - School is starting in less than a month!!
Lexxie will be going to 4th grade and Nicklas will be starting preschool. Nicky is excited to finally be going to school like Lexxie It is so cute!
It will seem strange to have two hours to myself once/twice a week. DH is usually off on Thursdays and Nicky will go Tues/Thurs so I won't always have two days of bliss but at least one!!
We are just over eight weeks out and I am wanting to start packing already. Isn't that crazy? What could I possibly pack at this point other than the rain ponchos and they are already in my suitcase
