A Hidden Mickey Wedding and a Disneymoon with a newbie - PTR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I LOVE YOUR CAKE!! I think it is a very cool idea about the hidden Mickeys. I look forward to seeing pictures of that and hearing more about your plans. We also Honeymooned in Disney World and that was my DH first trip. He's hooked now. We have been back 4 about to be 5 times since we have been married. We just celebrated our 7th anniversary in March.
Thats great! I love hearing about everyone else's Disneymoons...it will be DFi first trip to Disney so im really hoping he enjoys and we can keep going back for our anniversary....congrats on 7 years!!

Thanks so much! I LOVE my cakes and sweet stuff so I think this has been my favourite part so far taste testing cake flavours.
Your plans sound great and I love the cake! I took now DH to Disney for his first trip in 2007. We went again in 2008 where he surprised me and proposed. When we got married last August, we had our honeymoon at Disney too. It only took that first trip for DH to 'get it'.
Your cake will look beautiful! Those hidden Mickeys will be perfect in there. We did 2 different flavors for our wedding cake, so I naturally I like the idea of your 3 different flavors too!

Ooh - I think your cake is going to be gorgeous! I love the black and white scheme. Somehow seems fitting for some Hidden Mickeys. And the flavors....you've got me hungry right now for a taste!
Thanks everyone for your compliments on the cake!!

Well I will have a TON of cake left over...its going to feed approx 160 people and we're only having 120..so maybe i'll send some your way!

We had banana cake and boring vanilla. Not too adventurous!! But the cake itself was delicious, so vanilla was actually quite tasty.
I also forgot to mention that we also did black and white too, with red roses and accents. I wish I would have thought of throwing in a Disney element though......

Before I add anymore wedding updates I figured it was about time to start talking about the honeymoon.
We originally booked this trip back in August of last year as soon as the 2010 rates were released. We decided to book a standard room at WL. And oh how the trip has changed in the last year ...
Back in January I stayed at WL for my solo trip and was a little under impressed. It has a beautiful lobby and décor just felt the rooms were lacking a little bit. And the bed bugs. I know this can happen at any level resort anywhere and the chances of it happening again are very slim but I don’t want to experience that again – especially on our honeymoon. It was after this trip I started to look at our other options. Dfi liked the look of AKL so we switched to a Savannah View room for not much difference in $$. I was thrilled. I started to do a lot of research on AKL and really began falling in love. Then around the end of January we signed DFi account on the Disney website and after less than a week (I have still not seen one yet and it’s been years) we received a 40% pin that could be used in September. WooHoo!! My dreams of CL were about to come true...DFi agreed that with the pin code we could upgrade to AKL CL. I was on the phone that very morning but all of the AKL CL rooms were booked – so were the savannah view rooms. Now on this call I had the most amazing CM she was very knowledgeable and was really good about offering up other suggestions. Now she must of read my mind because the first thing she said after checking AKL was “we have a GV CL room at the Polynesian available”. I was ecstatic!
A little side note: Ever since my family started taking me to Disney when I was younger we would always visit the beach at Poly. Yes. My parents are notorious pool/beach hoppers. Only at Poly – but I was like between the ages of 5-10 and had no idea that this was “illegal”. So it’s always been a dream of mine to stay here. It’s just always been out of our price range. Poly goers don’t worry my mother is now a die-hard Hilton fan and stays and uses the pool at only the Hilton in DTD or Hilton Bonnet Creek.
After a quick call to DFi rambling on as fast as I could before the Poly room was gone he agreed. We were still saving money with the pin code (about 400) versus paying the rack rate savannah view room at AKL so this was perfect. Since then we haven’t had any resort changes (let’s hope that’s it) and this is how our trip will look
Since then there have been some additions though. We have since added the trip insurance (it is hurricane season after all) and the basic DDP (we do have a lot of signature dining so we figured going with the dining plan will help us “pre-pay” for meals).
Last week we were actually able to book our flights too. Now we typically fly out of Toronto but the rates are ridiculous right now for both AC and WJ. But I did find an amazing rate with Southwest. $398 total roundtrip for 2 adults from Buffalo. I was floored that’s almost 500 cheaper than flying out of Toronto and only an hour more drive from the wedding venue. Sold! But to get the cheap rate we would be flying out Sunday afternoon rather than Monday morning so we would need a place to stay for Sunday night and I wasn't about to pay the $$ for an extra night CL when we really won’t be arriving at the resort until around 8 pm (flight arriving at 6:30 pm). I decided to check out Travelocity and I got a wicked rate for a savannah view for one night for 200$ CDN when on the Disney site with the 40% off they wanted 235$ US. So here is the new plan up to today:
Animal Kingdom Lodge – Savannah View September 19th-20th
Polynesian Resort – Garden View Club Level September 20th – 27th
7 Day Park Hopper (may upgrade to 8 day now)
Disney Dining Plan
Trip Insurance
Up next our ADR’s ....and how many princess meals can I drag Ken too???
Glad I came across your PTR. Weddings and honeymoons are so fun to read about. I LOVE your cake! I wanted a little Disney for my wedding too so my ring bearer carried a Pooh stuffed animal instead of a pillow. I had a couple of other Poohs and Tiggers set up at the reception too. I'm glad you'll get to share Disney with your DF! I'm sure he'll love it.
