Another August Adventure: Fun, Family, Friends and Firsts - COMPLETED 11/2 with Final Thoughts! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It would be great to say hi, once we get closer we can compare plans and see where we might overlap.
One weekend we were at my neice's (Isamar) house for a barbeque (Cinderella from our last August trip) and her mom (Juana) and I were talking about what we were planning on doing for our next summer vacation.
At that point we were still thinking of doing something other than Disney, well her husband wasn't going to be able to take vacation time during the summer, and her son was working so she and my neice were up for whatever we were planning to do.
I was pretty excited as normally it is me and the kids (or me and the teenagers) and on the last trip as we got closer to the date Isamar's dad knew that Juana really wanted to come with us and told her that if she wanted to go she should, but by that time the airfare had really gone up and we could not get an extra room with free dining so she opted to hold off.
So after all our vacation discussion when we decided to go back I knew that it was the right choice, Juana was so excited and the first thing we did was to see if her sister and her kids could come along (her sister's daughter was my other neice that came with us last year).
Unfortunetly it wasn't going to happen for her this year. She could not get the end of August off plus she was saving for a big trip for next year when my neice graduates so the big trip with the three of us and the kids will have to wait
So I guess introductions are in order....
There's me Meg or mcc0313 as I am known on the boards. Lover of all things Disney and proud mom to my two amazing girls.
DD17 (Jasmine) - she has gone by a few names in our trip reports, first she went Princess Jasmine, then Pochohantas. She is my serious child, she grew up a Disney child, never slept and could watch Fantasia night after night. All she ever wanted was to go see the castle but we just never could get there until she was past that princess stage but she has found her own magic there, and while she will never "cry" at the Disney commercials as I do, she is almost as excited about this trip as I am.
DD9 (Angel) - she has stuck by the same name through all our trip reports and that would be her alter ego Tinkerbell (yes she has the attitude to match). She is truly a little "me". Nothing excites her as a Disney trip or just planning one. She has already informed me that she will never be too old to go to Disney with her mom, and yes she cries at the commercials too. Being my summer baby she lucks out and celebrates her birthday there...the big double digits is this year, I can't believe my baby is turning 10.
DN20 (Isamar) - also known as Cinderella from last years trip. What can I not say about this girl, she is just amazing. During those "teenage" tantrums she was the cool head last year as "she was once like that" and just telling me to relax and that everything would be fine (and she was right). She is the one who always has a smile for me when I am sticking a camera in her face (no matter how many times an hour that might be). Jasmine and Angel are so excited to have their cousin with them again.
D"SIL" (Juana) - ok technically she is my aunt by marriage however there was a big age difference between her and her brother (my FIL) so my husband and her were only a few years apart so they were more like brother and sister then aunt and nephew (unless she has to lay down the law ). Her and her sister are the most amazing people, they are two of my closest friends, they were my support system when I lost my husband, and have remained such an intrical part of my life. Without them I really don't know how I would have gotten through everything. So besides being excited for some "adult" companionship (even though my neice reminds me she is an adult now ) I am just thrilled to share this vacation with her.
Some pictures of the crew...
Angel and Jasmine at DTD
Isamar and Angel
The August Crew
Will add a picture of Juana as soon as I find one on the computer.
So there you have it....the August Adventurers.
Up Next: So where are we staying and some of the basic plans
I'm still so disappointed at just missing each other <knocking on wood>....but reveling on the birthday plans are an excellent distraction.
Can't wait to see where you're eating this time....I'll have to see if our pics from Raglan Road were recovered from the dead laptop. We ate there after Cathy's (Nimros) TR and had a fantastic meal so I'm sure you will enjoy!

Ahh, Meg, you almost made me cry again after I read your cast of characters...you have an amazing support system and two unbelievable daughters. And they, of course, are extremely lucky to have YOU for their mom.
Glad you'll have some 'adult' company on this trip...maybe time for the older girls to go off on a few adventures of their own for a bit?
Great update and list of characters! Can't wait for more
Thanks everyone...nothing beats traveling with my girls, and i'm so glad my neice is getting to come again, having some "adult" company will be nice as well, at least I will have someone to share my FAB with

I was so upset when my boss popped up with his travel plans I was so psyched that we were going to have four days together, but knowing we have the birthday trip coming up in less than a year did help quell the dissappointment. I am so looking forward to celebrating with you.
Raglan Road was one of Jasmine's musts...and after hearing such great reviews I am definitely looking forward to it.

My second choice of dates did turn out to be great ones. I am so glad that we are going to be able to meet up, I can't wait to finally meet your family. I know they must have grown up so much and Angel is definitely looking forward to handing out with them.

Can't wait to see the rest of your plans!
The have been an amazing support team Cathy, I can't picture my life without them. I still remember the first time meeting them, it was that akward "meeting his family" feeling and from the first time they made me feel part of the family.
I am looking forward to having a FAB partner, the girls did stray off a bit last trip so I am sure they will wander this time as well.

It should be fun, except for the trips with my sister it has always been me and the girls, which I love of course but I am looking forward to having the extra company.
I am so glad everything fell into place to make another August Adventure possible. Can't wait to hear how all the plans unfold.
Danielle
I was planning on making another post about there where...but since a trip without changes would not be a trip for me I will be posting the "where" by Tuesday (you know give myself the weekend to make sure I don't make any changes to the changes I just made before then...)
