Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

Amy was pretty spectacular after her makeover, but they really didn't do too much to Ty. I guess they didn't have much room for improvement. I mean other than clothes, what else could they do? I thought they might have gone for a more blond look. I was surprised that they darkened his hair.
Beaner I think knowing that your main room was so important to your family life that the designers would try to do a good job and give you what you wanted. At least I would hope so. Besides we would be there to fight for you!
The worst decorator is not even on there anymore. Have you all seen any of the old shows with this gal named DEZ. Talk about your nightmare rooms. I have seen three rooms that she did and nobody liked them. Even the young people they had on said that it was okay, but you could tell alot of that stuff was going to go. No wonder they replaced her with Vern.

I might end up with Doug doing some stupid, goofy theater in my living room where we literally live like 18 hours a day!
<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Oh Beaner...I thought the same exact thing when I first started reading this thread. I majored in film in college, and there is still no way I would ever want a theatre for my living room. Of course, we did have a cool projection room in one of the houses we lived in when I was growing up. All dad had to do was open a small little door (which blended in with the paneling - how 70'sish), hang up the screen on the opposite wall, and voila!

Back to the question...I would be hesitant, and would definitely be very, very picky about who did our room.

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

DH is trying to convince our neighbors to trade spaces. I want Vern to do our room, but, I want to work with Frank. He is just a hoot! I saw the Makeover Story and agree that Ty didn't change much and Amy Wynn, holy cow, she rocked! I also want to offer my support to Paige. I enjoy her as the host of the show!

Anyone want to Trade Spaces?

No way! I am so not into prissy, I like the old log cabin style mountain settings, no wild colors and fancy stuff.

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

Not a chance would I trade spaces. They just had an article in the Canadian TV Guide about that show. You have to sign a legal thing stating that the designer totally doesn't have to listen to your wishes. It says:
Quote:
Homeowner rights Despite relentless begging and homeowner requests, "(the homeowners) have signed a paper saying the designer is king," says producer Stephen Schwartz. So long ceiling fans! Hello straw walls.

Unhappily ever after If a homeowner doesn't like the way a room turns out, they have to put in the time and money to fix it.

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

No way. I've gotten too much glee from past episodes when they don't like the make over - does anyone remember the old episode with the sculptured hands on the kitchen counter and the lima or kidney beans spread around it - man they were not happy and I was howling. That being said I think some bad energy would bounce back on me if I did it since I've laughed so much about their reactions.

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

mom2my4dwarfs- you know it! i would close the blinds and disconnect the phone if i saw them coming. vern does the coolest rooms, but of all the shows i've seen, i could only live with maybe 10% of them. and how painful is it to watch the one where the woman breaks down crying and leaves the room? CRINGE!

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

I love Trading Spaces too! I would agree to do it in a heartbeat! But, I have to agree with SleepingB.. Dez was the absolute WORST designer on the show. Thank God they got rid of her. Did anyone see the episode where Dez made this very conservative couples' living room into what looked to be the purple version of the Dating Game? I felt awful for those poor people!

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

I think you should trade spaces! If you decide to apply to be on the show and make it, you definitely have to tell us when the episode is gonna air (if you know!) I would definitely do it if I was old enough. I think you have to be 18...that means 4 more years to go! If only I could convince my mom to trade spaces! Our neighbors across the street would be perfect candidates to trade spaces with my mom and dad!

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

I would happily "Trade Spaces" with someone! I'm actually considering asking my neighbors across the street! I would want Frank or Laurie or Vern to do my house, and I would love to work with Frank, Vern, Gen. or Hildy.
I figure, if they did something I hated--it only took 48 hours to do, so I should be able to undo it pretty quickly!
Oh, and that "theater" Doug did was in the house of my brother-in-law's high school girlfriend. They evidently have small children and that room was their playroom as well as the TV and computer room. The T.V. holder on the wall broke soon after the Trading Spaces folks left-sending their T.V. crashing to the ground. They ended up re-doing the room(and buying a new T.V.)
Oh, and I love Paige! I would also love to take some carpentry lessons from Amy Wynn! I am the handy one at our house and I would love to learn more!

Re: Would you ever trade spaces?

The thought of trading spaces would scare me to death. I am a devout coward.
Besides, we have such definite taste, I would be redoing as soon as the cameras were off.
