How did that happen? PTR May 18-25, 2010 - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thanks!! We made the tip envelopes and we put together a countdown chain. I will get some photos up here soon, and I will get some more of the PTR written and up.
I am big into the planning. I just like to have an idea of what I’m going to be doing. As far as the plan changing I’m okay rolling with the punches for small changes, big changes I don’t roll as well with. Here are our Day 0 and Day 1 plans.
Day 0 plans, May 17, 2010
We plan on leaving for the airport the night before the trip. It is only about an hour and forty-five minute drive but with a flight leaving at 6am we’d have to leave way to early. Plus I suffer from anxiety and OCD so all the “what ifs” are in my head (what if we get a flat, hit a deer, see aliens, etc).
DH plans on taking the 17th off of work, we will send the kids to school that day and then go about getting the pets dropped at the various kennels, and/or the house together for the sitter. We will also get all the last minute stuff together and into the car and food and snacks packed and into the carry-ons.
The kids get out of school an hour apart so we are still figuring out if we will just hop in the car after the last one gets off the bus or pick them up from school. No big deal, we can decide this at the last minute.
We will head out to the hotel, check in then get a leisurely dinner then “try” to go to sleep at a decent hour. Try being the key word. I never sleep well before a trip. I always worry about alarms not going off, someone getting sick, and all that. Plus for some reason the airport always seems to be a big hassle so I just want to get there and get it over with.
Day 1, May 18, 2010
Going to wake everyone up at 3am. I hate those rude reminders that I’m the mom with those early morning wake ups. Will get DH through the shower and the kids awake and some food in their stomachs. Both the kids suffer from motion sickness but both also pass out at the thought of Dramamine so they can’t be given the medication till shortly before boarding. Hopefully, things at the airport go smoothly and we board and take off near on time. No one is a stranger to flying so it’s very helpful. My husband is the worst person to fly with. While people in the medical profession make the worst patients, pilots make the worst passengers!!
We are due to arrive in Orlando at 1135 with a flight change in Atlanta. DH is familiar with the Delta terminal in Atlanta so we are using him as our tour guide. Right now our plan is the DME and no rental car. We are hoping DME will have us out to AKL by 2pm. We have dinner reservations at Sanaa at 3pm and then again at 5pm. We just want to be sure to be covered with at least one if we have flight issues. We will call and cancel the one we won’t use as soon as we know.
After eating we still are unsure what our plans will be. We are thinking if we are not exhausted hoping out to Disney Quest or the Magic Kingdom for a few hours. If not we will explore the resort a bit. Then it is off to bed for our Donald’s Safari Breakfast the next day and the day in Animal Kingdom.

Thanks!! He's still running down everyday after school and ripping off a link. He has to keep the old ones too to count how many days have past.
I hope to get another day or two of our trip up. It'd be nice to hear from old timers just that our plans sound "do-able." We did decide today to go ahead and rent a car. We found a great price that we can cancel without losing any money so we figured might as well reserve it.

.
hahahaha aliens. LOVE it!

I love this picture because my daughter's facial expression matches the Queen of Hearts exactly, and it was completely unintended!
You can never rule out those aliens!! They like to make my car overheat, or the starter not work, or misplace my wallet, ID, and credit cards.
Day 2 Wednesday May, 19, 2010
Well we had originally planed on going to AK today starting with breakfast at 8; but reading reviews people say to avoid the parks with EMH, so I guess Magic Kingdom it is. At the rate I am going I’m going to have a plan for all four parks every day ☺
We will helpfully be at MK at 9am for rope drop. We had planned to hop the train up to the first stop then work our way around the park but that seems to go the opposite of what the touring plans on various sites have. We are not the type of people that can stick to a plan 100%, shiny objects distract me; but we would like a general path to follow. Any advice?
Our can’t miss in MK are Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Railroad, Swiss Family Treehouse, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Peter Pan, Mad Tea Party, Small World, Castle, Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Wishes. We do plan to return to MK later in the week to pick up what we may have missed.
Our we would like to see but it will be ok if we do not are Winnie the Pooh, Monsters Inc, Hall of Presidents, Tomorrowland Speedway, Spectro Magic Parade, Space Ranger Spin, and Astro Orbiter.
We have Liberty Tree Tavern Reservations at 630pm. The restaurant is a random pick.
We don’t plan a mid-day break to return to the room. We will have a counter service lunch and take the time throughout he day to sit here and there and take in the sites eat an ice cream (or two) and explore the shops.
Day 3 Thursday May 20, 2010
With our shift to not being at the EMH parks we are planning on AK today. We have an 820 Donald’s Safari breakfast. Today, we plan on hitting our must sees in a logical fashion following breakfast. We will try to hit the Safaris or Everest right after breakfast going with the flow of what the crowds look like for FP or just waiting.
Today’s must-sees are Kilimanjaro Safari, Dinosaur, Tree of Life, Everest, It’s Tough to Be a Bug, and Maharajah Jungle Trek.
Most of the rest of the park are things we would like to see but will not be upset if we miss. Hopefully with the little must-sees we have here we can fill in the rest of the want to sees pretty easy.
We plan a counter service lunch and will more then likely head out to Fulton’s Crab Shack or a crab shack in town to eat dinner tonight or explore the resort a bit.
Tomorrow will be Star Wars Weekend; I already shudder at the thought. DH plans to be up bright and early to arrive in time to line up for merchandise.
