Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Oh my, water has to be my biggie!! When I was younger, I used to swim like a fish.....THEN, thanks to two hotel employees who were drunk and off-duty at a hotel I was staying at (I was sixteen then) grabbing me from out of nowhere, then throwing me in the pool and holding me down. Well, let's just say, it scared the holy crap outta me, freaked me out, and I totally went into panic mode rather than going on my swimming skills and almost drowned!

Well, thankfully, a friend of mine recognized that I was in trouble and was sinking....not swimming....she jumped in and saved me. haven't been able to swim or try to go into the water since then.

Whew!! And yes, those employees got fired!!

My one single biggest phobia: SNAKES!! OMG, I'm so bad I can't stand to see them in pictures or on tv. Heaven forbid I see one out in my backyard!

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

Rats and Bats. Just the mere thought of these is very hard to take. I don't want to see them on TV, in print , or anything or anywhere else. If one ever got into my house I think I might have to eventually move, because I'd never feel comfortable again.

I try whenever I can to combat this problem a bit. There was an issue of Martha Stewart's magazine a while back that had an indepth article and many close up pictures. I made myself look at the pictures, but didn't read it. My DH was reading it though and said, "I didn't know that...."
"What?" I asked.
"Bats don't actually suck blood, they bite the victim and then lap it up."

Just writing that made me feel a little light headed. So now every now and then I turn to Richard and say, "Do you know that bats don't actually suck peoples blood they just bite them and lap it up???" I guarentee you he wishes he never told me this. We do laugh about it... But I wish I didn't have this information!

Mel- Who you all probably think is a big baby now.

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

Number ONE on my list is SPIDERS! I'm truly freaked out by them, and I live in the country. So I tend to call the exterminator regulary!! Next, would have to be old rickety wooden bridges that look like they are on their LAST leg (again...I live in the country) I have to close my eyes until we are over it, of course my "darling" DS's will say "O.K, mom you can look!!" after my "sweet" DH will have STOPPED right in the middle of it!!! And the last is kind of wierd, but I don't like driving a long distance w/my 2 DS's by myself (and I usually won't!). I guess I'm afraid I'll have a wreck with them in the car and something horrible will happen! Wow.....anybody a phyciatrist around here? I've apparently got ISSUES!!

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

My absolute biggest fear...flying. It started when I was in my mid-20's (never bothered me before) and has gotten progressively worse ever since - after 9/11 it's sheer terror.

I'm also really afraid of speaking in public, it's even difficult for me to begin a friendly conversation with someone I've just met

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

I'm always afraid of pools with my kids. I guess my biggest fear is one of them drowning. As a child, I almost drowned, so it has had a major effect on me now. When we stayed at the Poly a couple weeks ago, I made my kids wear life jackets (they had them at the pool) when ever we were at the pool.

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

Flying is a big one. I had been on many flights and then I swore it off for many years and then had to fly again for business. Now I'm back to not flying again. AND WON'T! This had nothing to do with 9/11 but that didn't help.
Then we have needles. OHHHHH, these are bad, bad, bad. I went to the GNY last week and I thought I was going to make the nurse cry as she attempted to prick my finger to get my blood count. I finally forced myself to calm down because I was making her so nervous (poor dear, she is such a sweetie).
AND THEN WE HAVE SNAKES. WHOAAAAAA....... ok on tv, ok in pictures, but encounter one in real life and it's all over. Last summer, while DH was out of town for a funeral (of course, it happens when the big strong man of the house is gone) a young man started beating on my front door while I was home on lunch. I didn't understand much from him as he was very upset and babbling, but I did get "snake in your front yard" and "looks like a cobra". In Peoria? Well needless to say it was not a cobra or viper of any sort, and the the finder of the snake and his friend wouldn't take $50 to chase it out of my front yard. It soon slither into my back yard and for all I know is still there. Ok now that I'm over that bad trip down memory lane I am going to wash the color out of my hair, as a bad dye job is another fear!

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

I have a fear of dying. So anything that could kill me, scairs the bejebbers out of me. But the funny thing is tha I'm not afraid of being dead. And I am kind of a risktaker. It just makes no sens to me. Afraid of dying, not of being dead, and I'm kind of a risktaker. This just makes no sense what-so-ever.

I'm also terrified of toads and lizards (though I'm getting better at dealing w/ lizards). I get absolutely paralyzed w/ fear if I see a frog or toad. Full-blown panic attack phobic reaction, just like you read about in Psych 101. It's dumb, because I know they can't hurt me, but I've been this way all my life. No idea why.

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

I have several fears which I think all relate back to one big fear....not bieng able to breathe. I am claustophobic..(not enough air in small places) I cant stand and will not tolerate anyone touching my neck or putting thier hands over my mouth or nose...dont mess with my airways! I hate the dentist for this reason. Dont tickle me either....it causes lack of O2. I hate flying cause there is not enough air in a plane.
I hate bugs that fly, because they may fly directly at one of my airholes (mouth/nose).
I love to swim but not in a crowded pool for fear of a dunking and lack of air.

I also hate heights...big time.

Up until last week my biggest fears were running out of Diet Pepsi and hair color, but I'm starting to think those of you with a fear of spiders are justified. I got bit by a spider last week on vacation and have about a 7"x6" puffy rash on my shoulder which is now developing dark spots in the middle and streaks on the outside. (This isn't going to go over big with the lifeguards at the pool, is it?) It is infected and requiring me to take antibiotics and steroids. I think I will develop a healthy fear of spiders.

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

I'm with you Debe, and SMG on spiders. I was bit by one when I was young and my face swelled up. Years later I recalled having the mumps and my mother said no it was spider bite not mumps- and I thought ohhh that's why they freak me out. I wake up out of a deep sleep if I think I feel them. Since our DD's arrival I can "deal" with them since I'm paranoid she will be bitten, up until then I couldn't tolerate them.

I'm with you Colo Dizfanatic on Swimming - the same thing happened to me - dunked by older kids. I was 11 at a hotel pool and my brother who is 4 years older was hanging out with older kids. I wanted to play too...jerk of a 15/16 year old wouldn't let me up while dunking. The only good thing that came out of that day is I found out my brother didn't just consider me a pest..boy was he furious at that kid.

Spiders - of any size! I just can't stand them - if they are in the house - I'm out of the house until my wife kills them. They are just about the creepiest things I've ever encounterd!

Funny, because I LOVED Spiderman the movie - but the whole getting bitten scene totally wigged me out.

Re: Phobia\'s & fears

The spider thread is really interesting. I don't like bugs in general and usually call DH to dispose of them, but I think their just gross, not scary.

I actually got bit by a spider at Typhoon Lagoon last time we were at WDW. I didn't know until I got back to the room and saw a little bite on my leg. When I woke up the next morning (the last day of our trip) I thought my leg felt funny. I stood up & almost collapsed; the pain was so bad. My leg had started to swell from my ankle up to my knee. We packed up & checked out & went over to AK with me gimping around. I finally had to go to 1st Aid in AK because (eewwww...this is so gross!)stuff was oozing down my leg from the bite. Suffice it to say I was at my Dr. back at home the next day and on a big time course of antibiotics!
