As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'll definitely be posting another trip report. It's the best way to remember the details of my vacaction and it helps others to boot. I doubt I'll be finished by your trip, but I'll certainly have started.

Sue: Thank you so much for your quick reply You're awesome! I'll look into the hotels you suggested. I was hoping to get a hotel shuttle from Long Beach Airport to the hotel, spend the night, then hotel to the Port of Los Angeles and finally a taxi/shuttle service from Port of Los Angeles to Long Beach Airport. My husband, two kids (will be 3 & 4 years old) and I didn't want the hassle of renting a car.
Hope you and your family have an amazing Disney cruise trip in January 2011. Any chance will you be posting a trip report for this one, too? I'm sure I'm not the only ones who will want to read it!
I'm not sure if anyone heard yet, but Disney Cruise Line just posted a special:
Children 17 years of age and under traveling with 2 full-fare Guests in the same stateroom sail free on select 7-Night Mexican Riviera cruises from January 23 through March 20, 2011. Valid for stateroom categories 4 – 11 only.
Sue: Wow! Sounds like fun! How did you manage two Palo reservations? I was told usually guests gets only 1 Palo reservation online. Since this will be our first cruise (2/27) we'll have to wait a bit longer to book reservations. Your schedule looks great! Can't wait to read your trip report!
For Palo you can book 1 brunch + 1 dinner and I think also 1 high tea per group. I've only ever done the brunch and dinner.
As for the excusions, I'm not 100% sure I'll keep them. We might decide to just just walk around a bit at each port and mostly enjoy the aminities on board.
I got so lost on the DIS boards with this cruise I forgot I had popped in here, too.
Sue (I'm Sue, too BTW) is it just you and me so far? I am getting so impatient since we hit that 90 day mark!
Let's see we have:
Day 2 Palo for dinner
Day 3 Exotic Rasul (we did this on our last cruise a few years ago)
Day 4 Whale Photo Safari
Day 5 Randi's Happy Horses (we are doing this on our own with a few others from the DIS board who have ridden with her in the past)
Day 6 Cabo Beach Getaway - we may change this and just wander and find Cabo Wabo
Day 7 Kick back and do nothing!
We thought about snorkeling but from all reports it is pretty murky and might be a bit cold. But then we were in San Diego this last June and I thought the water was cold then! It didn't stop our 10 yr old son from boogie boarding all day though.
I would love to do the zip lines but I think DH is a little iffy and we would probably have to leave DS on the ship. Not that he wouldn't love it on the ship. We will debate this probably weekly until our sailing day.
So how many magnets will you re-use and how many more are you making?
Suggestions on the best way to make them. As I read through your trip report I admired your magnet collections.
We are staying at the Grand CA villas the night before. Anyone going to DL the day before?
I promise to check back more regularly!
Later,
Sue
Those sound like great plans.
Thanks for the info on the murky water for snorkeling. I might rethink that one.
The zip lines were REALLY REALLY fun. Maybe I'll do the Outdoor adventure again instead of the scuba. My kids did fine in the clubs while hubby and I were gone zip lining, but were definitely ready to leave when we returned!
I guess it is just the two of us on here so far. Hopefully a few more will pop up over the next month or so when people start planning in earnest. I haven't been over to the Dis boards for this cruise because I've been busy and the Dis boards are so big it's hard for me to keep up. Maybe I'll pop over and see what's going on.
For magnets, I'll probably re-use the ears and hats, but make new signs. And furthermore, I'd love to make a sign for you if you'd like one and any other pp-ers on the cruise. If so, give me some ideas of what you'd like.
And I love, love, LOVE the Grand Californian. Nice way to start off your trip! I haven't planned to do anything except pack for the few days before the cruise so no DL for me.
June in Southern California is our coldest month. Although January and February aren't super-warm, June is usually quite cold and gloomy, especially near the ocean. Our best months are August - October -- although this year we seemed to have skipped summer altogether at the coast.
All of that said, it'll still be reasonably warm in January and February once you get to Mexico.
Sue-here is the link for our cruise over on the DIS boards. Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011 - The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com
There is a great group of people over there. We got going other directions when World of Color opened but settled back into cruise stuff eventually. Hop on over, if you like & that goes for anyone else out there.
Beachmum-I grew up in Santa Monica, small world, isn't it. Spent many days at the beach as a teenager. Went to St. Monica's and a little bit @ Santa Monica City College.
Will you be joining Sue & I on this cruise?
Later,
Sue
No.....we're booked on the February 20 one. However, I'm hoping that you create another fabulous cruise report. I've already decided to book the kids dolphin swim in Cabo based on your recommendations. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
