5k, 4 Parks, 3 Nights, 2 Adults, 1 Adventure...Priceless!! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So…the training. Well suffice it to say that it hasn’t really been anything in the “formal” category. I had started working out hard in February when Jenny Craig and I became friends. I loved the just-tell-me-what-to-eat format. I started inside doing Turbo Jam DVDs every day after I picked the boys up from school while my oldest did his homework. This way I figured I could at least start getting into shape doing some cardio. Then once it wasn’t freezing outside, I bundled up and started running once every week or 2. I had mapped out in the car a route that was about 3.3 miles. I figured I should train just over the 5k and then maybe it would be easier when we ran it. This was around March, and this was also around when I tried to get Craig to start running as well. (No luck) Well, I kept up the working out and sometimes running thing with no real pattern, and it was getting a bit easier every time.
Come May 2nd when my 10 weeks was up with Jenny, I had lost 20 pounds and felt great. Then a bump in the road. I started having heart palpitations for a couple of weeks, which scared me enough to stop working out and take a trip to the ER. Well a couple of weeks, an EKG, a Halter monitor, a stress test and an echo cardiogram later, there is no underlying heart disease and apparently I am in great shape and have no restrictions. So…back on the horse as they say. (It could have something to do with the fact that my 7yo was diagnosed with ADHD and we were going through a child study team at school and we decided to sell our house, but hey…what’s a little stress, right? ) The palpitations are still here, but as long as Doc says okay...I'm going to keep up the training.
Anyway, after I got the all clear I decided to step up the running and try to get to it at least twice a week. It’s hard for Craig and I to run and train together because we can only leave the boys home when we have Zach (who will be 15 in December). But, one morning after our parents had kept the boys overnight, we decided we would run together for the first time the next morning. This would be the first time I had ever seen Craig run in the 14 years I’ve known him. Now, in his defense, he works out at least 5 days a week and does all of his cardio on the stairmaster. He has had 3 surgeries on his knee from a HS football injury and running is not the best thing for him, but he has decided to do this, and that will not stop him. So, we headed to the HS track and did 3.25 miles (13 laps) and Craig did it all without stopping. I was impressed…but he did realize he was going to have to work some running into his workout. Craig and I did get to run my outside route once while we had Zach one night and did it in a little under 10 min a mile. Our goal is to finish the 5k part in less than half an hour. As competitive as I am...and I am absolutely a competitive person...we are not looking to win this, but finish respectably.
So, that’s how it’s been, DVDs some days at home, running some days outside, and some days at the gym on the treadmill. Like I said nothing too “formal” but I think we’ll get the job done in September.

So glad to hear your heart is in good shape. I imagine that was quite a scare. Sounds like you are training well and will be totally up for the challenge. And 20 pounds lighter... Woo Hoo! That is incredible! Keep up the great work and your Disney adventure will be here before you know it!

Sounds like it's going to be a great trip! Congrats on the 20lbs. that you lost! Glad that the Doc says that you can continue with your workouts. Stress can sure do things to the body and it sounds like you've got quite a bit with the ADHD diagnosis and the impending move. The workouts should help with the stress though. Can't wait for more.
Glad to hear you are healthy. Your routine seems fine to me. I don't think you will have any problem finishing respectfully.
Just give me a holler when it gets closer.
I can just imagine how scary the heart palpitations were. Glad that everything is ok though. You've got a great training regime going. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the well wishes and the congratulations. It was scary. Especially since I had never had any heart issues before. Although my DH had a bout of A-fib when I was 8 months pregnant with our youngest. I'm not sure which of us got more attention in the ER...the guy with the heart issue, or the huge panicked pregnant woman. And yes...Jenny Craig is a very good friend of mine. I would recommend her to anyone.

Hey girl! Glad I found your PTR! Yay! Cant wait to hear about it!
I am actually thinking about signing up for a 5k here on September 20th. Im a little nervous though because I have NO outside running training yet! I lost a lot of wieght in the last year (about 50 lbs) but running 3.5 miles on the treadmill is still a bit tough for me. I loved hearing you and Craig's story tho- it made me feel inspired! Yay! Cant wait for more!
Okay so OMG you started the PTR woooo hooo....now you know i had no internet access this weekend or I wouldve been the first to post!
I think you are going to have so much fun with the 5K run...and you are more than well trained for it because if you remember I walked/ran and finished it in 39 mins so I'm sure you can do it in less time.
I just want to say again that you had me worried to death with the heart issues but am so glad it was minor in the end and to be expected with the stress you have going on!
You know I'm more than completely jealous over the weight loss and you need to be my personal weight loss trainer for sure! I am in awe of the weight loss and training!
Okay so i'm already ready for the questioning for the race! If you like this race will you do one with me next year????!!! I am dying to do this again and when I started reading this it reminded me of how awesome it felt to run that race.
Its all so very exciting!!!!!
also i was when i realized that we do text on our hair appointments*L* i've got one coming up soon so expect texting *L*
I cannot read more and countdown with you and BTW 30 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm loving this PTR. Not only are you feeling great about yourself, but you get to go with no kids! Knowing the boys are being spoiled, and that they get to go later will make it guilt-free. Can't wait to hear about your plans!

Congrats on the weight loss! I think I read before that your current pic is before you lost the 20 lbs, good lord girl, you looked good then, you must be a stick now! Maybe you need to post an updated picture. I just recently started working out on my lunch breaks at work (we have a gym) to try and lose the rest of my baby weight (a year later!!). So far I am down about 6 pounds but several inches as I have started to already get back into some of my pre-preg clothes. I was never one to try a diet and feared having to stick to it, so I am curious to hear about the jenny craig program that you did. So far I have just been exercising usually 5 days a week at work, treadmill, elliptical and trying to eat a bit healthier, smaller portions etc. How old is your youngest now? I don't think I could leave my little man (16 months) home yet, but I would love to someday do a short trip with my dh! Can't wait to read more!!

Congrats on the weight loss. I've thought about having a talk with Jenny but just haven't quite gotten there (although I have more than 20 to lose). Sounds like the training is going great - terrific that you got the thumbs up from the doctor. I've talked to John about doing the 5k and he said if I trained and was ready, that I could make the trip for it (anything to get to WDW) but things happen and I just haven't gotten there yet.
Good luck - looking forward to hearing all about it!
I can't wait to hear all about this trip! The excitement you & Crissy put forth is very infectious. This will be such a great trip for you & your DH.
Good Luck with the last bit of training before the race. And thank goodness you are ok - I'm sure it was the stress of all going on.
Can't wait for more!
