Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Wow, Forti, a whole 1.5%. Guess you can buy that mansion and Ferrari now. Still, it beats unemployment, or a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Got to go do "morning duty" -- opening car doors and keeping the kids from getting run over. For this, I spent all those years in grad school??

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Thanks so much..being a teacher is a hard job! But I love every minute of it. There is nothing better than those little babies running up to you and hugging you first thing in the morning and saying "I love You"

I'm off to work..HAVE A GREAT DAY1

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Oh, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the teaching part! There's nothing better!

But, it's hard to make ends meet when you're single and doing this. I'm working a 2nd job just to have a little money for anything but mortgage and utilities. I wouldn't be nearly so demoralized if my principal would come up with a better compliment than "that's what I pay you for" when we all work so hard.

My 2nd job is at Sylvan Learning Center, and not a week goes by that the Director doesn't say to us, "I'm so glad you're here, you do such a good job." I make less per hour there, but it's a much more pleasant environment, just b/c of the boss. I also have a couple of parents who regularly tell me how pleased they are with their children's progress in math, and that means so much! I wouldn't trade that for anything! (But I *would* trade my principal for a rabid doberman in a split second!)

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Forti-
That's such a shame.. Our school has been so fortunate with grants & state money.. We are really lucky that no major programs have been cut.. My main 'beef' with our school is class size ( DS ~3rd grade has 27 kids in class) They keep bringing these kids in from other schools & of course other schools aren't going to send their top students .. NAH.. we get all of the special-ed kids
Okay off my soapbox now !

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Gosh, I am SO sorry to hear that news. It's funny how much value we place on education and then turn around and cut educational spending. Does anyone get that? What a bunch of rhetoric (a fancy word for BS). Any chance of reinstatement?

Listen, hang in there! I sure wish I could help out from afar! And I'll give you my apprciation, albeit long distance - my wife taught school before the kids came along and I've got strong admiration for anyone in that profession.

Blessings and peace!

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Just got to reading this....Forti --What a shame! Do administrators never read the studies that indicate that music is beneficial and can lead to better understanding in math and other subjects? I'd much rather see kids put on a music production than a football game.....of course, I'm probably a minority.

And to all your teachers....I APPRECIATE you all! You do such meaningful and important work. I keep thinking I'd like to join your ranks (I was an early elem major though most of my college days), but then I think about all the bad stuff that comes along with the job. I even approached the principal at my kids school about maybe becoming an assistant teacher in one of the lower grade classes. I still haven't decided whether to pursue it or not---it would mean losing quite a bit of my current salary. We'll see. -HiddenMickey

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

So sorry to hear that Fortissimo! Will the powers that be ever see the light?!

It seems the fine arts are often overlooked in a child's education. My own family is rather "athletically-challenged." However, my 3 daughters have all found their passion in the arts! Orchestra, band, art classes, theater, choir. They are involved in it all. The 2 oldest play 2-3 instruments each! They are also straight A students when it comes to the academics! Studies have shown that children that can play instruments, usually score higher in math! I have to believe it because, I never played an instrument (not for want) and was never good at math! Hmmm?
The arts are a very important outlet for many students. So, to all teachers, and especially teacher's of the arts, I send my blessings and thanks for providing a place for my children to shine!

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

pflamingo, a rabid doberman?? Wow, that's pretty bad.

I didn't know whether to feel really bad for you or just laugh out loud. So I did both - hope you don't mind.

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Greystone - definitely LOL! That's what keeps us (relatively) sane! That, and counting the days til we see Mickey!!! (26 days to go!!) And don't feel bad for me -- just let you kids' teachers know that you appreciate their work. Sounds like all the folks here do that pretty well.

HiddenMickey - if you have the right principal (and parents who work with you to help the kids), it's great! The principal we had the last 2 years was fabulous. Just the right balance of rigor, discipline, and compassion. 'Course, she did such a great job, the powers that be moved her. Figures! And our parents (well, 99%) are terrific. If you can afford the pay-cut, and get the right school, you'll love it!

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Only 26 days, pflamingo? We've still got 105 so we're still pretty far out but counting down nonetheless. My son and I have been counting down each morning since we were 145 days out. Whew!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Mother's Day this weekend,

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Fortissimo, sorry to hear about the cut backs. However, I do want to say to you and every other teacher out there, I DO APPRECIATE the work you all do with kids. Lord knows in today's day it isn't always easy sitting in a room full of kids.

Thank you TEACHERS!

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

I must speak up and say teachers, firemen & police officers are the unsung HERO'S of our society. And, the most underpaid! My DD entered the public school system last fall, at 3-1/2, due to developmental delays, and I must say thanks to these wonderful, dedicated professionals, she has made great progress. (Thank goodness for free public schooling, because we could not aford to pay Easter Seals, the not for profit orgization, $40 for every 15 minutes of therapy) Teaching in my opion, has to be the most underpaid, underappriciated profession know to mankind. I just wish our society would wake up and see this. As for cutting programs like music & art, I am just lost. I know I may get grief from some people, but I believe students should go to school to get a well rounded education, not become a great athlete, and it burns me to hear about art & music classes being cut while the football team goes strong! I know I can't put any money in your pocket for performing you nobel profession, but I hope my apprecition for what you do for our children, the future of our country, will be enough to make you continue on your noble quest.
THANKS FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO!!!!!!
