Help me unstress about ADRS and DVC - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OP questioned whether Disney treats members as second class citizens. Since DVC owes us ZERO perks, I tend to think that the presence of ANY perks is a good thing.
Actually, that is not what I said. I said I "FEEL" like a second class citizen because I was feeling grumpy about the online reservation system. I think you read way too much into my post.
Ok, let me specify that I meant the Seasonal Passholder rate -- even though that normally entails blackout dates; it would still be a nice "perk," which apparently is where this conversation seems to have gone
Now that's a very different animal. Getting access to the seasonal pass would be a nice perk and I would encourage you to share that with DVC.
But apples-to-apples we pay about the same for the standard AP as FL residents.

...from me expressing a liking to be included in a free dining promotion of some kind to a breakdown and call-out on everything I stated. Again, they are my opinions and things that I would like to see -- in some form or another -- and I still agree with the OP.
Not a "call out"... I just don't understand the logic behind it. To Disney, perks are things that generate additional business. Arbitrarily giving free food to DVC members just because they can/will vacation in August and September doesn't seem justified.
This is getting way off topic so I started another thread. Hopefully you'll post there as I am curious to hear more about this line of thinking.

You also said "Help me be more positive and make my Mickey glasses rosie again."
Since you are admittedly a brand new member, I thought that perhaps pointing out some of the many ways that Disney DOES treat DVC members quite different from run-of-the-mill park guests would be helpful.

That is true. I did want positive vibes and you definitely provided that.

I am staying at AKV on points in Aug and I was able to pull up my reservation# and book online yesterday and today. But I am way in the 90 days, but you should at some point be able to book online.
I was pretty frustrated last week when I waited until MS opened at 9 AM and then found out that they couldn't book anything over 12 people and I had to call the main line anyway for 7 of my 10 reservations! After all that I still didn't get 3 of the things I wanted, two were no fault of DVC but rather poor planning on my part but I might of got the third if I had known to call the Larger party line at 7 AM. I guess even that was my fault for not thinking to research large party ressies. I have just been told so much lately about every question "call member services" Maybe they should have a large party ressie area in Member services since so many use their points and villa's for grand gatherings? I also haven't been able to check my ressies online with the number I was given through DVC.
I understand how you feel, with this new ADR system I have wanted to pull my hair out! And did feel like a second rate Disney citizen. I have been going to Disney since before I can remember and the last 5 times I went I did all the planning and calling for ADRs and have NEVER had as much hassle as I have had planning for my families up-coming vacation, I spent an hour and a half on the phone with cms and supervisors and felt like I got nowhere. At one point I hung up the phone looked at my mom and said 'I am not looking forward to this vacation anymore.' Yes DVC members do have perks and sometimes you feel left out, But if it wasn't for DVC I would have canceled my vacation altogether if it were my choice, But they fixed the issues I had had and I can breathe easier now. SO I recommend calling Member services and NOT WDW-DINE. Good luck I hope everything works out well for you.
I think it's important to remember here that any new system will have teething problems - even a Disney one, where we probably all expect it to be perfect from day one!
I'm in a very fortunate position and I don't need to book my ADRs for another couple of months, so I've not experienced the online system myself. It certainly sounds like there are a few glitches in it, particularly for DVC members, and that's a great shame. However, I don't doubt that Disney is working hard to resolve these issues.
As far as treatment as a DVC member goes, we've been members for seven years now and I've always felt that we get first class treatment. Disney seems to go out of their way to ensure that members are well looked after and I've also been really pleased with the service - and the perks - that we've received.
I hope that helps to make you feel more positive and I'm sure that will be your experience as well as your membership goes on.
Wow, free dining would be nice but I can't see them ever doing that. After all, they pretty much know you're going to be visiting since you boough tinto DVC. The free dining is a tactic to lure guests to WDW so I think we're pretty much out of luck with that since it's a given-we're going! LOL! I don't really take much advantage of the Perks, I guess I should really check them out more closely. I'd love a deeper discount on the APs it would be nice if they made a seasonal pass available to DVC members as well. That would be sweet.
I think the frustration is not just the online system but the cm's that don't know anything and they are making adrs.
It was my understanding that the CMs you are talking to on the phone are using the same system, or rather some form of it. It's nickname is "ALa Crap."
So we have the times down: 6am ET for online, 7am ET for WDW-Dine and 9am for Member Services. So if I am calling 90days out from my check in date of 10/18, and want to make a ressie for 10/19 (my birthday) can I call the WDW-Dine or do I have to call MS because it's a DVC ressie? Tim?

That is correct. You can call either MS or WDW-DINE to make 90+10 bookings. It's only the on-line system that doesn't do 90+10 for DVC reservations.
And for anyone looking to book an ADR within 90 days of the calendar date of booking (NOT using the +10), you can also do that on the web. You don't even have to enter a reservation number. It's just the +10 thing for DVC reservations on the web that isn't working.
What is +10????????????????
What an I missing????????????????
Guests booked at Disney resorts can begin making their dining reservations 90 days from their arrival. At that 90 day mark they can book up to 10 days' worth of dining reservations in a single call. That's the +10.
Before Disney started to do the +10, you had to call day-by-day to get dining reservations. You'd call 90 days (or 180 days) out from your arrival day to book for that day. Then the next day you would be 90/180 from Day 2 of your trip, and so on.
Off site guests and day guests still have to way 90 days out from the day they wish to dine. The +10 is a courtesy to those staying in Disney resorts. (Oh, and it saves Disney money by reducing phone calls, too. )
Well, I think I have found my zen with ADRs. I've got my list of meals/restaurants I definitely want to do (4) and a list of restaurants that I will be happy to do(lots). And I'm going to make them so that what park I'm at for that day doesn't really matter so I can adjust for hour/emh changes and such.
I feel much better now that I have a very flexible plan and am much less stressed over the online thing.
