Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Dh and I met at a Valentine's day bachelor/bachelorette auction to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. A local bar here in Seattle hosts it every year. I was in a bidding war for another guy and DH was helping the MC by encouraging me to bid higher until I won the bid for some outrageous price (hey, it was charity). Anyway, a little later DH walked by me and kind of laughed saying I was stupid for bidding so much on such a jerk.

Well, DH ended up being right about that guy but what did happen was that I started socializing with a group of people that DH also hung out with. A year later, DH finally asked me out on our first date. We moved in together after 6 months, got engaged after 10 months and married a year after he asked me.

What's great is that we still attend that auction every year, although they no longer auction off bachelors and bachelorettes. Also, the band that played the night of the auction, and every auction since, was the band that played at our wedding. They're very good friends of ours now.

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

I was hoping you wouldn't ask that. (I suppose I don't have to answer, do I?) Ok, here goes. I met DH at a party. We were both playing a drinking board game and I ended up owing the person on my right 3 articles of clothing beginning with the letter "S". DH was the person on my right. This may not be totally shocking to anyone here, but now that DH is ordained and we both do a good share of speaking/teaching on Biblical topics, most people are shocked to hear of our beginnings. Suffice it to say, God's done quite a work in both of us.

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Not much to tell. Our parents had known each other for years. We would run into each other sometimes. He finally started calling my house. Of course I was never home. My mother made me stay home one day just in case he called again. He did. That was in the winter of 1974. We were married in Oct. 1975.

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Patsy-c what a wonderful story!

One day in late February 1995, sometime after the divorce and after swearing off men, a friend of mine got a Thursday night off from work and told me to be ready, she was picking me up to go to this country-western dance club we'd been wanting to go to. Interestingly enough, I had just gotten back from a Bible study class, and was SO not in the mood! But I knew my friend, and she was not going to give up.
Towards midnight, I was very tired, and past ready to go home. She kept saying, "one more cigarette." Well, we are at the last table before the door, and these two men ask us to dance. Yeah, okay, whatever, I just want to go home.
Needless to say, we closed down the club, as Jim and I danced and talked all night until they kicked us out. At the end of the evening, I was SO impressed, and a little bit disappointed , that he didn't try to kiss me goodnight. There was something about this man that I couldn't shake.
I didn't hear from him again for two weeks, even though he had my number. Turns out he was out to sea, but he did finally call, and I met him again at the club, and we played pool and danced and talked some more.
Three months later, we were together whenever possible, and he was given the privilege of being introduced to my daughter.
He asked us to marry him that Christmas, although he'd been saying things like "when we get married..." since before Thanksgiving.
I kept telling him that I wasn't ready to get married again, but he persisted. He finally won me over with the absolute support and understanding he showed during one of DD's operations and a nasty custody battle between my ex and me, in which my ex abducted DD. (scary times.)
I finally relented on Oct 3, 1996, and we were married on Oct 6. God couldn't have sent me a more wonderful mate and father to our children. Jim's support and understanding have never waned, and only seem to get stronger, along with his love for me and our family. I am very proud of him. I thank God that He sent Jim to us, and that we are living the happily ever after...

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

This is such a cool topic!

Steve and I met in 1985, when we were both married to other people. He was my instructor in my very first Advanced First Aid class. We were friends, but nothing else. He got divorced in 1989, but I didn't get divorced until 1992. After I was seperated, he started to call me. He had dated during that time, but he was really waiting for ME! I said I would go out with him, but I was a little gun-shy. But one thing led to another, and he is truly my soul mate. We dated for three years, moved in together in Jan 1996 and got married in July 1996.

Our first date was a picnic at Beltzville Dam. We took a ride out there because I had to buy a new car and was upset by the decision. So he drove me out there, we walked by the water, sat on the shore and had a great time. (And we still have the car!!! )

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Wow! What a great question and responses!

Andy (aka the food police) and I met in sixth grade. The teacher made us do everything together because out names rhymed, which I hated. Andy sat in front of me, and every time he turned around to talk to me, I lifted up my desk lid.

Fast forward to Junior year in high school. Andy and I ended up on the same team in acting class. My boyfriend broke up with me, Andy made me laugh, and we started dating a week later. We got married at in 1980 at age 18, Gonzo arrived shortly after, and then Chris three years later.

So, we've been married for 21 years, and at soon to be 40, have raised our kids, and are ready for new adventures!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Wow, these are great stories! Mine sounds like alot of the others - we met in 7th grade when we were 12. We were good friends all through school, but never anything more. He moved to a different school at the end of 11th grade, but we still had mutual friends so I knew that he & his girlfriend had a baby right after high school.

2 years later, I was working at the same company as his mother and engaged to someone else. All of a sudden, I started running into him (3 times in 2 weeks when I hadn't seen him in 2 years!) He invited me & my fiance over one Friday night, then I went back to see him (without the fiance) several more times - still just friends!

One Wednesday night we took his son out for pizza and it occured to me that I had more fun with him than with my fiance. The next day he sent me flowers and I broke up with my fiance and started dating him! I knew from that day that we would get married, and I have never regretted it!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

OK, don't laugh.... Back in the early nineties I had a regular office job during the day, and worked as a musician at night playing musicals. My night job made it very hard to meet any men, as most of the guys at the theatre only liked other guys. Anyway, halfway on a joke, me and a friend decided to join the Together Dating Service, and the rest is history.

I received a match letter about Bill in early September 1991, and we spoke for several hours on September 6th. On September 7th was our first date, and we went to the National Zoo in Washington, DC. I was hooked! After a few short weeks, I told the dating service "No more matches", "I like this one!" Bill moved in with me in May 1992, and we got engaged Christmas Eve 1992. We were married July 10, 1993, and now have two beautiful children together.

Sorry to be so mundane, but Lynne and I met in a Bruegger's Bagel place and discovered how much we had in common. That was in October of 1997 and we have been together ever since!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

We met in 1984, when I was selling Tupperware and one of my friends needed some. My DH was this friend's roommate. We said hello-no big deal.
Flash forward to about nine months later. I was dating this guy who said he couldn't wait to let me meet his best friend. Guess what? Yep, my future hubby! Of course, I embarrassed myself by giving him a huge hug and saying,"Oh, we already know each other" He didn't remember me!
My boyfriend and I broke up and he gave his friend my number.
We went to a movie(don't know which one)and out to dinner. Ten months later, we were married and honeymooning at WDW! Now, it's almost 17 years later, and here we are!

I love reading these stories...they just make me happy! It does make you realize, though, that so much in life is by chance (or is it???).

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Well I've known Keith since I was 15. We went to the same boardingschool. - He wanted to be there and I didn't. I was rather rebellious in HS and he was more of a goody-goody so I had no use for him!! I heard bits and pieces over the years; like he got married a week or so after graduating from college which was a SHOCKER! - He was soooo shy in highschool!

Fast forward some twenty years and I get an email from an old classmate who got my email from my brother. - I had done a VERY GOOD job of slamming the door shut on those past years as it was a very difficult time for me. Needless to say I was NOT happy my brother gave him my email! Our school was planning a reunion up in the Boston area in June of 2000 so people were hooking up with former classmates. I agreed to adding my email to our class list. It's a good thing, too! I realized I wasn't the only one who had gone through hell over the years and come back to tell about it. It was a good lesson for me! Well in the process I was looking for an old boyfriend who had been close to my dad. Nobody had his email but someone suggested emailing Keith; which I did. I had also heard he was going through an ugly divorce. - I had just untangled myself out of a bad scene a few years prior and offered, via email, to swap ugly tales! - He came back with some annoying comeback about preferring to stay positive about the situation (gag)! - We had a huge class email going back and forth. I hadn't realized that when Keith responded to my emails it was one on one for the most part rather than to me and the group! He asked if he could call me some time (at the time I was in Ithaca NY and he was here in Crawfordville)and the rest is, as they say, history! (Our "first date" was ten days in Key West )We have a mutual respect for each other and how to treat each other after being in pretty unhealthy situations over the years. I still have trouble sometimes remembering it's not just me and my cats; that I have somebody else to be considerate of. Keith is actually the Disneyphile in our house! He knows all the history of the locations etc etc. I keep track of all the codes, ride refurbshment etc; as well as finding a cool board to hang out and pick brains for vacation ideas etc.

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

I was working at my family's store and DH was working for a construction co. out of Texas. He had answered an ad for work so that he could make enough money to fix up his 69 Mustang.

He and his crew were coming in every day for coffee. I was still in college and my hours were always different. He started to come in at different times to see when I was there. He asked me for my number and when I wrote it down, I wrote it wrong.(Must have been the nerves)
After a few day of wondering why he hadn't called, I got the nerve up to go to where he lived. He was living in a big house with all the guys from this construction company, about 75 guys. I was supposed to be at class that night but intsead we went out for ice cream. That was 15 years ago, we've been married since 1993.

He still has the car(and yes he fixed it up) but he never made it back to Texas.

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

My DH and I met at a friends 4th of July party 8 years ago when we were 25. They were trying to set me up with another one of their friends, Mike. I started talking to him, found out he was currently unemployed and not really looking for another job Dh comes over to where we are and we start ganging up on Mike about finding a job. Why don't you temp, etc. Mike leaves and DH and I talk until 2 am. I remember sitting there and thinking "I could really consider marrying someone like him." He gave me a kiss on the cheek good night.

He called me the next day and we went out the day after. We saw True Lies and went to Friday's. We were together every weekend after that.

We were married 4 years and 1 week after we met. And, it has been "happily ever after".
