As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have to second everyone else. The cars do seat 6, so I don't see why you can't sit together. I'm guessing that is the standard script that they must tell everyone. I've found that Disney likes to prepare people for the worse so they are happily surprised (Like saying a line will take 20 minutes when it is 15).
Don't miss Sci Fi. It is one of the most unique places to eat in that park.

We were a party of 4 and we were in the first two rows of the car, with "hitchhikers" in the back row. We didn't even notice them, and frankly I forgot they were there. The four of us had a blast in our two rows, and it didn't affect anything in the least. I definitely wouldn't cancel over it.
But, with a party of 6, I cannot imagine you not having your own car.
Definitely keep it. We love Sci Fi and go almost every trip. My DS just doesn't feel right not going there. The burgers and shakes are really good and the atmosphere is fun. With 6 you will most likely be seated in one car. There are three of us and usually DS sits in the front, DH and I in the middle and we have two hitchhikers in the back. They are behind you and you are all facing forward looking at the big screen so you really don't even notice them.
Another vote from me for keep it! This was the one place that I demanded we have an ADR for. I told DH that I didn't mind missing the other meals if we didn't get in them, but I had to go back to SciFi!

I must be one of the few that did NOT like Sci-Fi at all... my DH and I were so disappointed in the quality of the food, yuck BUT, it is worth going at least one time, for the experience.... my kids loved the atmosphere, just not the food!! And, like everyone said, you would all be in the same car... no hitch-hikers for you
we ate there in December and we were a party of 4 and the car sat 6 so if you ask for a car when you check in you will most likely not be sharing...anyway. We shared with a nice couple but they were behind us so we didn't feel like we were sharing at all.
I would keep the reservations...with 6 in your party you should have your own car, three rows of two seats. It is such a fun experience you will have a great time.

The CMs that make dining reservations don't always have the correct information about seating. We are a party of 5 and we've been told in the past that we would be seated at two different tables at restaurants, but in reality we were seated together. A party of 6 would have no reason to be seated with others at Sci-Fi because there wouldn't be any room for anyone else. We've sat at a car and a table and never had anyone else sit with us. I know everyone likes the cars, but personally I prefer the tables because you can see your party better. And it still looks like a car:
I love Sci-Fi Diner- Lots of fun! As a family of 5, we had one car by ourselves (2+2+1) and when my daughter and I go alone, we are the "hitchhikers." As a group of 6, you should be in one car.
I was a hitchhiker to a party of 8. They sat 4 and 4 in 2 cars right next to each other, with both backseats empty until hitchhikers came along. I thought this worked out well for conversation as they sat 4 across. Not that it's really a place for conversation. I would seat the little kids in front, so you can keep an eye on them. I had kids in front of me, and the parents weren't paying attention to them and they were arguing and shoving each other for part of the meal, standing up on the seat.....
AS others have said , with a family of 6 you will be fine. This is a must do when we go. My Nephews love this place. you share a car if there are four or less, but the Hitchikers sit behind you not next to you. Oh and with a family of four you could be the hitchhikers. If I have one of the kids with me, I sometimes request a front seat for us. As far as conversing, we like to watch the vintage movie clips thay play on the movie screen... so for us... its no talking. we usually need the little break from each other anyway. Love the reuben sandwich and the burgers here. And don't forget the milk shake

We love Sci-Fi and it is a must do. We have gone a a large group and as a small group. We were never split up and as a small group, yes, we had "hitchhikers" but as others have said they were in the back and we didn't even know they were there.
That being said, we are the type of folks who really enjoy Beirgarten and Teppen Edo and places where you are placed at a table with others. You meet some very interesting people and DH and I have even made job contacts for when we retire from the military.
I wouldn't cancel your ressies. You won't be forced to spend the day with these folks, even if you do have hitchhikers, unlikely though, as you are a larger party.
