Why is it we all love Disney so much and others don't? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I know 3 families who are going to WDW. I am having major withdraws and today I said something to a couple of co workers (I should have known better) any they rolled there eyes and said you were just there. You went 4 times in 2 years. One of the coworkers lived a few miles from WDW and she said I only went once. Whats the big deal about Disney she says? To me it's my happy place. It's where I can be a kid and get away from the real world. Some people just don't understand. Yes I am obsessed about Disney. I can't help it. So why do you love disney so much?
i know exaclty what you mean about people just NOT GETTING IT, its fustrating a little, lol.....
i love it because i love seeing my children enjoy it, i enjoy it, even tho we've only been there 2x as a family, i have gone a handful of times when i was younger and i can't wait to go back next year
For me it is a place where optimism isn't looked down upon, where magic is real, where people are family...even if you don't know them. It is a place where Main Street USA as it used to be (at least in our minds) is still alive. Wishes come true, pixies fly and pirates are soooo cool! I feel such a great weight of jaded views and negativity lift from my shoulders and as it goes it lifts the frown into a smile. I can play there without odd looks from people around me.
Let those that don't get it have their "look" that they give us all. It doesn't bother me in the least...there are plenty enough of us to keep the magic alive!
For me, I think it is probably the only place on earth where things are truly "perfect." It is like stepping into days gone by, but more like a "yesterday that never was"...every little detail is perfect, there's a soundtrack playing in the background that matches your mood, people are smiling, kind and considerate. And as much as things change, it is still EXACTLY the way you remember -- stepping onto Main Street and seeing the Castle feels EXACTLY the same way now as it did when I was five years old and did it for the first time. Only now, I'm sharing that EXACT experience with MY kids. There is no other place on earth where I can do that in the same way that I can at Disney.
For me, it is also about the way I am treated at Disney -- we've done our share of traveling, but people are people...sometimes we are treated well, most often, nothing special; and on occasion, we are treated terribly. At Disney, you so often feel like you are THE special guest of the day, like the whole world revolves around you. And there's something really special about that.
But, for me, it still comes back to the fact that as soon as I am on Main Street and see the Castle, bubbles of joy fill my entire soul and I just want to go running and skipping down the street to get THERE as fast as I can!!!!!
I can only assume that those who don't "get it" lost a little bit of magic, imagination or childishness somewhere along the way. I just hope they can find it again someday.
I forgot to say too my coworkers said "you can only hug Mickey Mouse so many times." I said it's more then just hugging the mouse. Although that's part of it. There is so much there to do. Oh well. I love it and they don't have to.
I don't think we should have to explain to others why we like Disney so much. Like you all have said already, its a magical place to enjoy yourself and relax. For me, as soon as the DME crosses under the arches, the real world doesn't exist anymore. I know its a place where I can be have a good time and feel like a kid. I think the world would be a better place if we were all touched by the Disney Magic.
Well said. I agree with you and Scott. Those who don't get it, their loss.

My BFF spent 2 years listening to me plan two trips, and didn't understand. She came last year and spent 3 weeks with us in the World. NOW she understands. This bookworm computer geek now has pins on her corkboard in her cubie, and when she's stressed at work, she brings her Disney Princess pencils to meetings and zones out with her magical memories (she's hooked, going back, and considering a wedding there!).
I think people get too caught up in life to remember the magic that's in their hearts. They forget how to have fun. They forget how 'simple' things (sights, sounds, smells), can make you feel. They forget how to 'feel' young and carefree.
We all forget in our busy lives how to shut off worrying about problems or things we have to do. Disney allows us to do that, leave it at the gate. (Which is great, because we know all of the months of stress that goes into making our trips 'magical', LOL).
I am one million years old. When I was a kid, The Wonderful World of Color was on. There were many shows all about Disneyland. We lived in Buffalo. California was as far away as the moon. We never went on any vacations. I just remember thinking how great it would be to visit Disneyland.
I went for the first time with some friends when I was in college. I went for one day, stayed off site. I liked it - there was only the Magic Kingdome then, but it wasn't really magic yet. The next time I went was with my DH, my younger sister and my 3 daughters, aged 5, 6 and 7. It was the perfect vacation. The kids had a great time. DH and DSister were amazed at how big DW was. I was hooked.
I don't think we should have to explain to others why we like Disney so much. Like you all have said already, its a magical place to enjoy yourself and relax. Well, when Samantha was little, we loved it because it was the only place we could go with a handicapped child and not have problems. We were welcomed, and she felt as "normal" as possible.
Now, I love it because it's there. Do I really have to have a reason?
disney makes me feel like a kid again. and I get to spend time with my mom and my ywo younger sisters.

my gosh, everything everyone here has said is true. esp. i resonate with what danielle said. and i also remember the wonderful world of color. i guess it reminds me of my childhood and a chance to go to that carefree time in life again. and it is safe...where else can you stay out in the dark till 2 am not worrying about being mugged! ha ha ha. um, i think WE ALL feel whatever "it" is here without needing to explain it to each other. i have developed some of the most wonderful friendships of my life because of "it" and this place here where we all get to meet. yep...i don't care if others don't get "it". i have "it", you guys have "it" and that is all that matters to me!
I grew up watching the original Mickey Mouse Club, watching the various versians of the Wonderful World of Disney and my dad took me to see all the Disney movies that came out. All I ever wanted was to go to Disneyland because Disney World hadn't been build yet. I never got there but after I got married I got to go to Disney World at least once a year. It's a place that I can forget about the rest of the world and just have fun. I've been to other amusement parks and they just don't compare to disney World.
