Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Congrats and good luck.
I have never worn my pin it is sitting in my jewelry box. I don't really know any nurses who do wear them. If I were to do it again I would go to the ceremony but not bother with the cost of the pin. BUT if you are into momento's and such you should get it to have since you did earn it.
Thanks for joining the ranks and coming into Nursing
We need you

I just want to say cheers to you! I can only say it is a very difficult road and you should be very proud!!! Attending the pinning meant more to me than the actual pin. I don't wear my pin, don't feel the need. Did you guys have to take the HESI...I think the HESI was harder than NCLEX? I agree with the statement made about passing the Boards!!!! Good Luck and think positive!

I bought one but I couldn't even tell you where it is at. I never wear it. I don't need a pin to tell me who I am or where I've been. I can define my career so much easier by the moments that become a permanent part of my memory.

Just a side story....this week at work I was kinda down on myself. Seemed like I was just one step behind the rest of the world and couldn't get caught up. I went to work that day with an attitude I seldom have about my job......'make it thru this shift, do what you have to do and get home and get some sleep.' I went into this older mans room, I was hurried, stressed and about an hour behind in my work. This man has reminded me so much of my dad (that I lost about 5 years ago) over his short stay at our facility. I handed him his pills and he was slowly getting up to take them and just said 'oh never mind' and layed back down. Fist instinct was 'I don't have time for this tonight' but I sat down on the side of his bed and asked him what was wrong, he began to cry and told me today he lost his third child to cancer. I can't even imagine, three children. And he said it was also the 4 year anniversary of losing his wife, he recalled every detail of the EMS coming to the home ect. He took a picture out of his drawer and showed it to me, telling me this was taken when his family was all together last time, he told me about each one and defining details about everyone. We talked of faith and the hereafter, we talked about how you never know what tomorrow brings and he told me how he hurried thru life and looked back now and wished he would have spent more time with family etc. So after about 45 minutes of talking I was back in my normal nursing mode and realized why I do this everyday. When I left the room one of my closest friends, who I have the ultimate privilege of working with, was standing there, we both had a few tears in our eyes. Shared a brief hug, an 'I love you' and went on with the day. Somewhat changed, molded by the day, those are the things that you will carry with you.

Sorry, a little more than the question you were asking but don't stress over such monetary things as a pin. It won't change a thing years down the road. How you use what you have learned will. Congratulations!!!!! Welcome to the group!

I struggled with this same scenario. Even though mine was horrendously expensive (around $300), I decided there were more than enough blood, sweat & tears to warrant the expense. I also wanted to ensure I would have no regrets many years down the road.

I have mine clipped onto my tassle which is wrapped around my nurses lamp in my curio cabinet.

I'd do it and find a way to scrimp somewhere on your trip, perhaps with spending money or something. You only get pinned once in nursing school whereas you can pickup a souvenir any time at Disney World.

**ETA**: Some of the nurses I work with who are new graduates wear their nurses' pin on our hospital ID badges. We've had the discussion about germs, infection, etc. and keeping them clean. That's why I decided to keep mine safe at home as described above. The only time it hasn't been in my curio was when I bought myself a brand new car right after passing state boards-I had a lanyard around the rear-view mirror and pinned it on there so I could look at it every day and remember the discipline, perserverance, persistance, sacrifice, etc. that went into everything.

Sorry to come back and hijack the thread again after remembering something. But Dina I would do it-if you don't keep your tassel you'll have your nurses' lamp that you'll light during the ceremony......try to figure out something to encorporate the pin into the lamp.....maybe with a ribbon or something-yea....get thick ribbon in the color of your choice (our school colors were black, red, and gray). Kinda tie some ribbons around your lamp and maybe up to the candle. Or maybe group some ribbons together to make bigger ribbons that your nursing pin an set inside of or something. I't so hard to convey an idea you've got for a great greation that you want to share..........

Let us know what you decide.....I'll be glad to help out in any way I can.

I think I need to go to bed now.....getting pretty jittery and ready for winky bye time.

I'm going to bed so I'll stop blabbing all over the place!!

I have been a nurse for almost 33 years
Way back when every one wore their pin and name badge
Nowadays with ID badges I rarely see a school pin
I do know where mine is but it has to be > 25 years since I wore it

I used to always wear my pin, back in the day, didnt when I went back to work- but I am very glad that I have it! I know caps were ridiculous but it was kind of cool that you knew where someone went to school by their cap-

have 3 pins and don't wear a one of them....i wouldn't say it is a waste of money and i do know where mine are (oh, i just remembered, i have 4 of the things....AD, BSN, Sigma Theta Tau, and my ET school pin from Cleveland Clinic.) no one wears them here...they carry dirt and such and actually i don't think we are allowed to have them on our scrubs. good luck deciding....where will you be working? hope you like it!!!!!
