So here's the post about the dinner complainers... - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

"My feeling is the same that I grew up with. If you don't like it, there is a jar of peanut butter in the frig. As my father (who did all the cooking) would say, this is not a restaurant and he was not a short order cook."
tHANKS HUNTERMOM--i AGREE WITH YOU 100%. wE MAKE 1 MEAL AS DH AND I SHARE THE COOKING AND EVERYONE EATS IT OR FENDS FOR THESELVES. i HAVE EVEN EATEN HAM AND BEANS(WHICH I HATE) BECAUSE THAT WAS WHAT HE NADE. i THINK IT IS RUDE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A MEAL THAT SOMEONE PREPARES FOR YOU. IT IS DISRESPECTFUL.
My sons arent very picky but if there is something I know they wouldnt eat, I wouldnt make it either ( although I cant really think of anything they wouldnt eat )
Dh will eat just about anything and Ds (13) is starting to be the same way even though he was super picky when he was really little... now Nick (ds5) is extremely picky... he eats most meat as long as it's plain and not seasoned or sauced... he won't eat any rice, potatoes or cooked veggies... and asks for hotdogs, nuggets, mac and cheese or pizza most nights for dinner... although he rarely gets them... most of the time I will cook his meat seperate and he'll eat raw carrots and cucumbers or salad...
I told DH about this thread and he was vaguely horrified on behalf of DHs everywhere. He knows better than to say anything about what is for dinner. If it's something he doesn't care for, he's a grown man and can take care of himself! But in general, we both cook and we try to respect our food differences. Ryan will eat just about anything so it's really DH and I that are the picky ones!!
I'm having a really hard time because my sons are soooo picky. People say, kids will eat what you give them, my oldest son would literally not eat, he'll throw up food (I don't know if it has something to do with sensory integration/autism-- which our school is re-evaluating him for because after being told he didn't have autism, now they think he is somewhere on the specturm). My other son is also very picky (he's also currently being evaluated for autism, and I dont' knwo if it has something to do with that). .
WOW! I am so sorry to hear about all these picky eater problems! I'd ask if the people doing your evals might check this book out and see if it does not apply to your situation.
I've used this book with some success, though I have to say I have not been able to solve all picky eater problems that came into my office with these strategies.
I guess i am lucky, it is just DD and I. she will eat almost anything. She does not like spice cake. That is the only thing I have ever seen her say no thanks to. She eats calamari, any meat, any veggie, or pasta. She loves brussel sprouts I do nto but I will make them and eat them because I am the adult. She loves cabbage cooked I would rather not, but I still make it and have a little. She is a better eater than I am.
Sorry to hear about all these picky eaters. I tell her just like rides at Disney, try it once if you do not like it you never have to do it again.

One of our DGrdS has issues with food (texure, smell, taste, etc.) and our DD has some difficulty rotating the foods he will tolerate. Breakfast is fine and he loves anything from the dairy line. Also chocolate donuts go down really well!! LOL! However, with these issues he was put into a tough situation with sharing a classroom with a child with multiple food allergies, most of which come from the narrow range of foods he can/will eat. I guess they've worked it out so far this year and all are doing okay.
Then again DGrdS's baby sister will eat ANYTHING (including dog kibble she discovered when they dog sat our fur baby when DH and I were on our cruise/extended vacation for 3 weeks!)
So, managing what foods they will eat around what they need for good health can always be a challenge. I would support my kids to the fullest, but for a normally healthy adult, who can make or do for himself if he perfers something other than what is prepared for the meal, then I'd let him be on his own (or her own as the case may be).
does anyone else deal with this, or did I just screw up in some way when they were really little?
Well, I like to think I treated both kids the same way when they were babies, but they are very different. DD had to eat her veggies first as an "appetizer" or she wouldn't eat them. When DS came along, he loved his veggies, but wouldn't eat the meat very well. So, we did the reverse with him, make him eat his meat as an "appetizer" before he could eat his peas. They would get really mad because each was seeing on the other's plate what they really wanted!
DH knows not to complain when I make something that he doesn't like, because it doesn't happen very often. He'll eat some of it in front of them, so that he's not affecting their perceptions of dinner.
Since I'm the only adventurous eater in the family, I'm usually the one making something different for myself to avoid eating the same ol thing over & over. I usually keep it simple by adding a different vegetable, creating a salad or something. It's just kind of become a way of life.
