Graduation and Good bye: the Radcliffe family - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

After getting off Dinosaur for the second time, tummies were getting rumbly, so we decided to head over to the Flame Tree for lunch. As we were heading out of Dinoland, I noticed that Primeval Whirl didn't have a line, so I decided to give it a spin. What a fun little ride!
Onward to lunch!! Flame Tree is busy, but not too bad. I tell DH what I want to eat, then I go to find a table. While I am hunting one down, the Dream Squad shows up and dreams somebody waiting in line. My DH didn't see who or what they received, and this is the only time all trip that they show up.
I ordered the half chicken and really liked it. I had been warned about the begging ducks that show up if you sit near the water, but we didn't have a problem with them. It was all the other birds, instead. There was a blackbird hopping from table to table and actually getting on empty tables, which made me wonder how clean our table 'really' was! . After he left, a heron showed up, and just about ran down a lady who was leaving. He managed to score some fries from some little kids, then he left. Then the ducks showed up, and we left.
After lunch, we decided we needed more birds in our day, so we watched the Flights of Wonder bird show. I really loved the raptors, and my DH fell in love with Hope, the bald eagle.
The heat and humidity are now pretty bad, so we decide it's time to get wet. The stand-by wait time is posted 30 minutes at Kali River Rapids, so we get FP's and go shopping to wait for them. When we return a few minutes before our FP time, the line was gone, so we decide to ride stand-by. We walked all the way through the temple before we found the end of the line, so wait time was negligible. We board our raft, and DH and DD-17 get soaked! We hop off, run around to the FP entrance, and ride again. And again, DH and DD-17 get soaked!
After deciding that twice is enough for now, we head to Africa to do more shopping, and end up in a great place to watch the parade. DD-17 was wearing her birthday button, and got handshakes from several of the characters, and greetings from lots of CM's. I got tons of pictures, and a sunburned nose. After the parade, we wander around a bit, waiting for dinner.
We show up 30 minutes early at the Yak and Yeti, but the restaurant is empty, so they seat us. I ordered the lettuce cups, the sweet and sour chicken and the sorbets. I have a delicate stomach and have to be very careful about spicy foods. I liked the lettuce cups, but knew what would happen if I ate them all, so I didn't. The sweet and sour was disappointing; the batter was too thick, which made them hard to chew, and the sauce didn't taste like what I am used to. The sorbets came in three flavors- mango, pineapple and raspberry. The mango was heavenly!!
The heat has frazzled us all, so we head back to our room. Once there, we find a totally unexpected surprise - balloons and a birthday card from Minnie Mouse for DD-17!! I hadn't requested anything special, so this was really nice. A quick shower, than fall into bed.
All in all, a great day at AK!!
This morning, I had hoped to be at Epcot for EMH, but the buses to Epcot were having trouble staying on schedule, so we didn't get there for rope drop. When we finally did arrive, we headed straight to Soarin, as my family had never ridden it before. The posted wait time was 20 minutes, but the actual wait time was 45. Had fun popping the blobs while waiting in line; our section seemed to be doing the best. Then we rode Living with the Land. Once out of the Land, we headed over to Test Track. Wait time was posted as 40 minutes, but it didn't look like there was anybody in line, so we jumped in. Actual wait time was only 15 minutes, and that was because of technical difficulties. Oldest daughter chickened out, so she went outside to wait. Finally got in our car, and headed off. Just before the crash test, more technical difficulties resulted in a short wait. I have never been on this ride before, but liked it. Youngest daughter liked it so much, that later in the week, she rode it 3 more times!
Once off TT, we wandered over to Canada to wait for it to open, about 10 minutes. We watched the Oh, Canada film, which is quite nice, then headed through the UK. We got there just as the World Showcase Players were about to start the Grail show, so we stopped to watch. King Arthur was kind of laid back, didn't really get into the fun of it. Galahad was enjoying himself, but the Evil Hag stole the show.
On to France, and the film there. The scenery was great, but I thought a bit of narration would have helped, to at least let us know where in France we were. Then a stroll through Morocco, and it's now time for lunch at Le Cellier, so back to Canada we go.
There are just not enough superlatives in the language to describe how wonderfully delicious this meal was!!
I ordered the cheddar cheese soup, the pan-seared halibut and the maple creme brulee. The soup was delicious, but a little too heavy for the heat. The halibut was tender and delicate and gone too soon. The maple creme brulee more than lived up to previous reviews; I have never had a more delicious brulee. Our server was Kurt; attentive without being intrusive, very knowledgable about the foods and friendly. DD-17 was still wearing her birthday button, so he brought her a special birthday cake for dessert. We were so impressed by both him and the restaurant, that we left a positive review card for him.

I can't wait until we get to go. I am kind of punishing myself by reading everyone's TR's and still having sooo long until I get to have my turn. Please keep the TR going. I am enjoying it very much.
PS- I love Yuba City.
