As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We really enjoyed the Biergarten on our trip in Oct. I am a huge fan of HOT german potato salad and they had the best. It was SOOOOOO yummy. DH enjoyed it as well and he considers himself an expert on German food. He also reallly enjoyed the beer (which of course he considers himself an expert in that)
There were a couple other items that i really enjoyed but can't remember.
My folks like it too and my dad is pretty particular about his German food. He loves Schnitzel.
We love it! The food is great, the entertainment is fun and we find it interesting to see with whom we get seated with.....we have been seated with great, friendly people in the past and with standoffish sorts too. It is more fun with people who will have table talk with you, though.......enjoying the Disney magic as much as we do....
We enjoyed the Biergarten a great deal. The food (buffet) was good, the beer was good, it was cool, pretty inside and the entertainment - while a bit hokey - was fun. We also enjoyed the fact that the seating kind of forced us to talk to others and meet new people.

Dh loves Biergarten and it is a must on our food list. It has a good atmosphere and even my kids enjoy the show. They have very good beer and lovely wines. Yeah...you sit with strangers, but we have met some really interesting people that way!
I guess I'm in the minority, but we hated it when we were there in March (08). My five year old son loved that he could dance to the band, but it was completely dark in there, so you couldn't see what you were eating and the band was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation. The food was wretched, in my opinion. I admit that I am not an adventurous eater, but I didn't care for anything except the bread and the potato salad. I guess german food is just not for me. In addition, my son is a fussy eater and refused to eat anything on the buffet. My father had saved half of one of those big soft pretzels from his afternoon snack and that is what my son ate at the Beirgarten. My husband loves German food (had been to Germany in college) and was looking forward to this meal and even he said that he wasn't impressed with the quality. No one else in my family liked it either. In addition, our server was one of the worst I have ever had at Disney. I am normally not a complainer about that sort of thing because I recognize it is a hard job and not one I would want. However, the waiter took forever to come over, then took about twenty minutes to bring us drinks and we thought he was never coming back with our check. All in all, we won't go back there.

DS5 loved the music, DS9 loved the salmon, I loved the potato leek soup, and DH loved the beer (okay, me too)!! Although I don't have a burning need to go back any time soon, we enjoyed it.
Biergarten is alot of fun, the entertainment is great and it gives the kids a chance to get up and dance. The food is good(not great) but it's a really great time and as everyone said before toe beer is good too!
The Biergarten was a lovely surprise for me. I had never even ventured back to that area of the Germany pavillion... sauerkraut disgusts me. However, my DH really wanted to go...so we went.
The atmosphere was delightful; I'm a big fan of cool, dim places to escape from the FL heat, and I love the faux outdoors that Disney creates in places like the Biergarten and San Angel Inn (you can google for images). I wasn't wild about the 8-person table, but since it was buffet style and not family style, that was perfectly all right. There was adequate room for everyone to have their own space.
The food was good, particularly for a buffet. It was not "old" or unheated, and I found more than enough that I would eat, and was pretty darn stuffed when we were done. The carved meats were good, the soup was amazing, and the cold meats and sausages were lovely. And, of course, as others have mentioned, the beer flight was yummy (and not too expensive)! I also have to praise our server. She was utterly amazing...our drinks were instantly filled, dirty plates disappeared whenever we got up for more, and she was charming and helpful.
Both DH and I thought the show was fun. We both enjoy live performances, and felt that having a live show at lunch (before 2 p.m.) added to the value we were getting for our meal. There aren't that many places at WDW you can enjoy a live show while you eat without attending a "Special" restaurant, and some of those places (Like Marrakesh) have very brief entertainment. The show at Biergarten was fun, lively, entertaining, and fairly lengthy. All in all, it was one meal at the "world" that I can point to as something I really felt I got a good value on. My DH andI enjoyed the food, the beer, the atmosphere, the service, and the entertainment, and the two of us got away with a bill under $75 in the World Showcase.

It has always been our day of arrival dinner, except for this upcoming trip. We love it. It is my oldest DSs fav place to eat. It always wants to eat there at least twice each trip. We've never had a problem with the others we shared a table with.

I never knew that people would have such mixed reviews of the restaurant. Really interesting to read!
It's not our favorite place to eat in Epcot. We like Le Cellier and Seasons as our top two ts and cs places. But it is nice.
Like others have said, it's cool, it's dark and you are usually seated quickly. My husband laughs and says I would talk to a fence post so sitting with strangers is not a problem for me. My younger son's the same way. Speaking of him, he's incredibly picky - just accepting hot dogs and he's 12! - so finding a restaurant where he'll eat something other than the same old thing is good. Mind you, he didn't make the world's best choices but at least it wasn't a burger, chicken fingers or pb&j.
I didn't like it....I'm not a huge German food fan. The rest of the party had a great time. I'm like others I wanted to have a conversation with my party and was stuck with two heavy drinking college age men who spent the entire meal taking in more beer than food.
By the end of our meal I ran screaming from the building disappointed. I really tried to make it work and I even ignored the two college kids....but I think they had hit all the beer stands in the park that day. Even the CM asked that we forgive them that if the two kids in adult clothing were just there to drink they would have put them in a corner.
