As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. My concern would be why did things hange at this point in the year? It's not usual for a large percentage of kids to do poorly on the first test of the class with a new teacher. Sometimes students need to figure out what a teacher wants, but by this time in the school year expectations should be pretty well understood. That doesn't mean that everyone gets good grades, but certainly not a majority of the kids doing so poorly. I would definitely try to talk to the teacher.
Those type of questions are not for a honors class. There the lowest level of Bloom's---she should be asking high level questions. I think I would discuss it with the assistant principal in charge of academics.

As for the process, your school district should have a formal complaint process stated in their handbook which should start with the student advocating for himself/herself. If that doesn't meet with your satisfaction for whatever reason, then parents should step in and meet with the teacher. If that doesn't meet with satisfaction and some resolution cannot be found, then the principal comes into play and even further to the superintendent if necessary.
My guess is that this particular teacher found that the test wasn't measuring what she wanted. She found that the minuscule details test didn't work as most of her students didn't do well and designed the extra credit to compensate.
I teach English and I definitely don't agree with the "not open for discussion" stance she took. : An explanation for WHY that type of test should be given before the test and students should be given ample time to study those details. (Think about the last time someone quizzed you after a movie on what color Nicole Kidman's dress was, or what she ate while in scene 2.)
Your son has already decided to drop it because it's not a battle he wishes to pursue. For one isolated test, I might agree. If this becomes a regular practice, I suggest you do pursue it as literal comprehension questions as a sole measure of understanding is poor teaching.
I wouldn't hesitate to make an appointment with the Principal immediately for you & your son to attend. I can't stand when teachers have the attitude of "this is my class/my rules and you'll follow them". Yes I understand there has to be rules in order to follow to keep order in the class, but when the majority of students are failing the tests then that says something-and change has to ensue.
Reminds me of the issues I had when DD was that age & then two years ago had a similar situation where I immediately pulled DS out of a class because the teacher's attitude was abhorrent-I had never been so disrespected by a teacher in all my life like I was with this witch.
I'm not bashing all teachers as there's super ones.......unfortunately you hear more and more about things like this happening.
