As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We went on Mission: Space green version this past August and DH thought it was the coolest ride EVER. He really wanted to try Orange after he experienced Green, but I talked him out of it. I say give the Green side a try, and then make the decision about Orange.
DD & I got ill watching Cloverfield, so I dunno bout this MS!
Just wanted to comment that getting sick while watching a movie or a video game is more due to the jittery camera work -- as in, with a movie/game that bounces around and doesn't use a steady-cam, your eyes are telling the brain that there's movement, but your body isn't feeling movement so it starts flipping out a bit and people can feel sick to their stomachs. The reverse is true too -- personally, if I try to read something in a moving car, I get car sick because my eyes are seeing a stationary page of words, but my body feels movement. Yick! I'm sick!
With M:S, the movement is carefully tied to what you're seeing on-screen in front of you. If you close your eyes, your brain will no longer agree with your body on what's happening and ... yick! You'll get sick!
Again, I'm not advocating that people go on a ride they think will make them sick -- I'm all for guests loving the rides (and I appreciate the shorter lines when *I* want to go on M:S ) -- I'm just trying to explain what little I know about mitigating motion sickness.

I'd say give the orange version a go. For me, the green version misses the point a bit -MS orange really feels like you're in a rocket. I get terribly motion sick, but I've never had any problems on Mission Space. Look straight ahead and you'll be ok.
I suppose, I'd rather experience all that WDW has to offer with the risk that I might feel a bit queasy, but that's just me.

This is what happens to me on MS-I can't handle motion simulators too well but can ride coasters all day long. I did OK on mission space, only had a headache afterward which advil took care of. The G-forces didn't bother me one bit and is the best rush you'll ever get on a ride-IMO. The feeling of being weightless and flying just about did me in, but that doesn't stop me from going on it. I found if I cover up one eye, I don't get as queasy for some reason.

I've been on both versions (Orange first and then Green). My DH and I took his buddy on the Orange version first (we had both been before there were two versions) and buddy came off it and was kind of green around the gills! A couple of CMs were even checking on him. We took him outside, got him so fresh air and a cool drink and he was fine. Hey - he's the one who said "bring it on" after the first coaster ride!!! So we did!!! Took DSIL and my DS on the Green version - they did great - DS was kind of leery about it but had a blast. DSIL get motion sick but this didn't cause her any difficulty at all. If you are really worried - try the Green version and then if you're okay and feeling brave - head over to the Orange side!!
Have fun!!!!!

OMG - He's sooooo grown up!!!! And an EAGLE SCOUT!! I can still remember my cute little Tiger Cub! 2016 Reading Goal - 75 books
My wife and I rode the mild version and loved it!! We rode it twice. We thought all the warnings were way over done. But I guess they are necessary to stop law suits.
Are you going to go to The Kennedy Space Center? We just loved the Shuttle Launch Experience!!
I've ridden M:S a bunch of times since it first opened, always the spinning side. When I rode it in Dec 07 it felt as though they had 'dumbed it down' just a bit, it didn't seem as intense. It was still a major thrill for me (I've always wanted to be an astronaut). So I would recommend the Orange ride and try to get engrossed in the story and make sure you perform your crew duty, they will help you take your mind off the idea of spinning.
And even though I am majorally claustrophobic, the tight space doesn't bother me, but I'm usually busy taking in all the theming - flipping switches, punching buttons, listening to CapComm - and I don't notice it all.
I hope you enjoy it - it's been one of my favorites since my very first mssion! "It's Go Time"
For the sake of your 3 year old, I'd say go on the green version. The spinning was just too much pressure for me. It didn't make me sick, but it was sure hard to breath (but that had everything to do with me being fat). It just might be too much for someone so young. The video is exactly the same for the two rides, so all you will miss is the spinning/g-forces. Oh, and this is the one and only ride that has a blood pressure warning that I think needs one. No other ride messed with my blood pressure, but this one left me feeling like my head was going to explode. But not in the green version. The less intense version is a must do, though. It's great.
I rode during the soft open. I commented to my wife that all the warning signs seemed to be really excessive. When they drug my out at the end of the ride, I was suggesting even more signs with BIGGER letters!!! I was out with motion sickness for the morning and a migraine for the rest of the day! Of course, my wife went back to ride it 3 more times - in a row! It is on her top 10 of rides. Go figure.
As a thrill seeker, I very sadly say I was disappointed by the Green Team on MISSION: SPACE. My sister, who was terrified and refused to ride, loves Star Tours. In my opinion, the Green Team has much less turbulence than Star Tours. You also feel much more secure and safe because of the over the shoulder style harnesses. The Orange Team, so i've heard, is much more intense. On Green, I could look over at the other passengers and take my eyes off the screen without any motion sickness. But for others, the milder version is still a little too much. I would suggest taking your kids on the Green team, then head back on Orange if they want more. Hope your vacation is awesome!
