As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I knew I couldn't be the only one here that has it! I'm absolutely amazed, Dina, that you can sleep when you have it!!! More power to ya!! I can never settle down enough to sleep -- just as I get relaxed that awful twitchy feeling starts and then I have no choice but to MOVE! Usually I get up so I won't disturb Dan (DH) and head to the computer because sitting isn't as bad as laying down. Poor Dan tried to hold me down the other night before I could leave and that made it worse because I tried really hard to suppress it. Now my legs are burning instead of just feeling twitchy because it all built up inside I guess. They're still burning and it's 2 days later.
I'm really hesitant to do the drugs thing yet. I get it so rarely, but when I do get it, it goes for a few days and I'm like a walking zombie because I can't get any sleep. Last night was my third night in a row, although it wasn't quite so bad and I did manage to get a few hours of sleep. (Must be the pixies - thanks!!) But I spent all day yesterday suffering with it (it's never been a problem during the day before, only at night when I'm trying to sleep) and trying every home remedy I could think of -- walked for a half hour outside (no easy feat because of the mushy snow ), stretched, took a warm bath, ate more red meat than one human being should in a day (to try to increase my iron a bit), took a vitamin supplement (I've been forgetting to do that lately), drank a glass of milk right before bedtime (because that's what my Grandpa did when his RLS was acting up). I only had two rounds of it last night and I managed to stay in bed, so that is a huge improvement! A couple of nights ago I was up the entire night and it was in my arms as well as my legs. I finally dozed off on the couch with my feet propped up on about a dozen throw cushions.
I haven't had any caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, or pop, basically nothing fun to eat since Christmas because I'm on a prescription drug at the moment (and no, RLS is not a known side effect - I checked), and yet my legs are givin' 'er.

I know it's weird but I can actually sleep with it. I'm lucky. It's more of a problem for me at late parties when I'm sitting around, at the movies, in the car. Sometimes I get it in bed (kind fo rare though for me), but I can still fall asleep. If I can't I come downstairs put on a West Wing DVD, and usually will fall asleep on the couch.
I remember having episodes 20+ years ago then not to often after I also just thought it was me. In the past few years I have noticed it getting worse. I am 47 I was thinking it was an age thing anyone else willing to tell age? I get it even for short rides in the car or long rides when we are going to DL if I take off my shoes and put my legds up it seems to help that a bit. Recently tho I have started gettting it at night last night was not good. I also dont want to do the drug thing I am sure there is help out there without taking hardcore and expensive drugs. I did read about drinking tonic water I tried that a few days ago and it seemed to help. I have not bought more to retry. I also Goggled it and found lots of people willing to sell there "cures" but cant find anywhere that will just give us the help we need I know there has got to be some other "herbal/natural" ways to help. Lets try to share when we can. Thanks

I'm 43. I would get an episode once in a blue moon when I was younger, but it was very isolated incidents. A few months ago, it started happening regularly and it was devastating to my health! I was trying to get by on a maximum of 2 or 3 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period because my RLS would literally not let me fall asleep until I was at the point that I was so exhausted that I could have slept standing on my head. Some nights I was up all night and only managed to get quick naps in during the afternoon (luckily I'm a housewife and I can do that). I tried so many old wives tales tips to avoid needing a prescription. Nothing helped. Finally after nearly 2 weeks of suffering with it, I ended up seeing my Dr and he took blood tests to rule other things out, then prescribed the anti-Parkinson's meds. He reassured me that I'm at no greater risk of developing Parkinsons because of the RLS, because I was concerned about that. He said that the drug was developed for Parkinson's but they discovered that it also helps RLS sufferers. And although I was reluctant to take meds, I'm very happy that I am now. I get good nights' sleeps and so does DH. Every once in a while I will forget to take my pill at bedtime and boy it doesn't take long for my RLS to come back and remind me!
The most successful home remedies I've heard of are: sleeping with a bar of Ivory soap under the fitted sheet at the foot of your bed; eating bananas; drinking a glass of pickle juice (blech!! ); or drinking tonic water. Give those a shot, and if they work, woohoo! If not, go to the doctor and get other problems ruled out. You might benefit from the drugs like I have.
Thanks Donna
I selfishly hope mine doesnt get worse but who knows .I was wondering if it is stress or more age related? Both are things I am going through.
My mother gets bad leg cramps and she put the bar of soap at the foot of her bed I think it did help. Sometimes even if its all in the mind who cares as long as a good nights sleep is had by all!
I really dislike bannanas but the tonic water is not bad.
Good luck
I noticed this thread not too long ago , but didn't actually read completely thru. It caught my eye because I get it occasionally. The last few hours I have been tossing a jerking all over the bed and finally gave up and got up. The funny thing is I am totally sleepy , but can't be still! Anyways, I remember seeing this thread and looked it up. I would try about anything right this moment to loose these jittery legs. Unfortunately, I don't have bananas or tonic water. So, hopefully it will go away shortly. I havn't had this in a pretty long while, I get it once in a blue moon. Well// since I was up, thought I would read and post.........hopefully I will be back to bed soon.
I would say to bring it up to your primary care provider. Sometimes it has to do with your calcium levels as well. So, some labwork is in order & probably a sleep study. There are options to help with RLS.
Pixies to you!!

Jeepers, there must've been something in the air last night. I had it really bad last night too - even with my meds I was twitching like crazy. And I was completely exhausted. My eyes couldn't stay open but my arm and legs wouldn't stop moving. It's awful. Finally my husband ended up massaging my legs and that helped a little bit. I felt bad about that because he was wiped too, but neither of us were getting any sleep anyway. Eventually I guess the combo of the massage and the drugs finally kicked in and I did get some sleep. I hope you did too.
I too had a problem again last night except that I was asleep but felt like I was moving all night. I was aware but asleep. I thought it was the medsl I took last night for my cold. I do plan on getting my blood work done soon.
Hope we all sleep well tonight.
