Do you have a State Fair in your State? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

When I think of PA state fairs - two things come to mind - the PA Renn Faire and the Bloomie. The Bloomie begins in one month. We just drove by the fairgrounds yesterday on our way home from Elysburg. 153rd Annual Bloomsburg Fair - September 22 - September 29, 2007
I used to go to the fair in Bloom all the time as a kid. My grandparents were members of the Fair Assoc. so we got free tickets. It's been 8 or 9 years since I've been up (for the fair - I was up there in June to visit my Dad). I loved the pierogies and the buckwheat pancakes. I've been to Knoebel's a time or 2 as well with my cousins during the summers.
Virginia has a state fair in Richmond every year, it was in August this year. I didn't make it down there though.

I have no idea why it says "seriously twisted fun!" up there. : That really does not make sense! Maybe there is a new ride twisty ride or something.
The fair is always in October, and this year it's Oct 12 - 21. There are tons of rides, great food, and games. Then there are all the exibitions, and they have all sorts of competitions - quilting, veggies, cattle, photography, baking, etc. I love watching the pig races.
One of the biggest draws is the concert series - every night they have a different concert. Some of the best ones this year are Sara Evans, Chris Daughtry, Kellie Pickler, Trace Atkins...and PAULA DEEN! I'm totally getting tickets to Paula - from what I understand she's doing a "Paula's Party" type of thing. Can't wait!
Yep, we do here in AZ. I am kinda sad because Daughtry is coming to the state fair this year, and I won't get to see them because I will be at WDW! Well, I guess not too sad!
I went to the Illinois State Fair in Springfield this year. I grew up there and Mom and Dad still live there. It always starts the second weekend in August and runs for 10 days. It has tons of animals, food to die for, lots of exhibitions, compeititions for baking, sewing, decorating, scrapping and all different kinds of hobbies. I went to a wine tasting tent - all Illinois wines. There are tractor pulls, a cow carved out of butter, concerts, a beer tent and a huge conservation area. Not to mention the carnival rides, Sky Ride and my personal favorite - the Giant Slide! We always make that the last thing we do before we leave the fair. This year we had 2 races - the 8 grand children and the 5 children - of course I came in last amoung the children!

Not to brag but, Texas has a great State Fair. We have been going every year since we moved to the area. If you have ever been, all I have to say is Fletcher's corny dogs! It starts Sept. 28th and ends Oct. 21st this year and we will definetly be there.
I went to our State Fair in 2001 and 2006... very disappointing. The DNR probably has the best display. It is a fishing pond shaped like Michigan (complete with the UP) They have fishing poles set up and teach you how to do "no cast" fishing. I caught a little blue gill. You can also try out target practice with a pellet gun or bow/arrow. I work for the Dairy Association and we always have a booth set up and we sponcer the butter cow (yes a cow made of butter!). I like to watch the live stock but there isn't as much as there use to be.
I like the fair in Vermont MUCH more...and it isn't even a State fair. The Champlain Valley Fair is going on this week until Labor day. :sigh: I will miss it this year and I am so sad...second year in a row. They have great free shows and lots of crafts to look at and buy. Even their commercial exhibits are cool. I miss the fair in Vermont.

Massachusetts doesn't have a state fair, but I know the towns of Marshfield and Topsfield have fairs each year (in August for Marshfield and September/October for Topsfield). There is also the "Big E" ("E" standing for Exposition) in Springfield, which I think is also sometime in September.
They all have agriculture, and 4-H, and Midway rides and games, and food and entertainment of some sort. Marshfield always has some car show - demolition derby, or figure 8 racing, Joey Chitwood, etc..
Yep, we do here in AZ. I am kinda sad because Daughtry is coming to the state fair this year, and I won't get to see them because I will be at WDW! Well, I guess not too sad!
Yes, Illinois has a State Fair. It is quite good in fact although I have to admit (quietly and off the record of course) that Minnesota's fair is better. When I get the chance to go I always head for the Pork Pavillion to get a butterfly pork sandwich. Also I really enjoy seeing the 4-H projects and seeing the animals (provided it is not to hot and stinky)
We have a state fair here in Jersey not too far from where I live. But I haven't been to it. I'm a farm girl by birth, so I like the county fairs better than the state fairs. And since I have only lived in NJ for the last seven (is it 7? I forget and I'm too foggy headed today to think numbers) years, I really know what my new state fair has to offer other than your standard carnival rides that I can see from the highway.
